2020 Racing Montage in Brunton SuperStalker (3.8L Supercharged)

So the track day season closed for me last weekend at NCM Motorsports Track in Bowling green. It was a beautiful weekend for November (75 and sunny) and I had a great time running with BingeTokyo. There were lots of Grid Life Racers there and by following them after a pass they helped me set a new personal best of 2:18.90 which was 3.66 seconds faster than I was just a month ago!

 

I am still just floored at the amount of improvement the car has and confidence I have in its balance and predictability. Only changes this year were track pads (Hawk) and corner balancing. If you all haven't corner balanced your cars already do it! I can now put the car exactly where I want it with confidence where as prior I felt like I was always waiting for the rear end to come around on me.

 

When I got back my youngest son put together the video above from clips I brought back from the track.

 

Ignore any of the speeds in turns if shown. The GPS was was giving bad readings unless on a straight.

 

I have got to figure out gearing during the off season. You will notice how I max out at 117mph no matter how long the straight is using my current setup (t5 transmission and 3.23 rear end).

Great video, nice job by your son, thanks for sharing! The side view especially the sundown shots are really cool, I may try to replicate that next time. That blue car spinning out in front of you was a bit of a code brown, good job he didn’t jump back onto the track.

Great to see another Stalker out running this weekend. The family and I were west of you, running at Eagles Canyon. My son spent the day on track with me. It was an awesome experience for both of us.

Nice video - good clean driving. Good to see someone who knows how to drive a Stalker and keep it on track.

Funny thing about those sundown shots. That was the last session on Saturday. I was lined up first to go out on track with a Mustang behind me. When they let me go the sun was so blinding I couldn't see the pit walls on either side of me. I was able to make it to the pit and get back off the track. The Mustang decided to continue and crashed on the main straight which is directly into the sunlight. He wasn't hurt but all his airbags went off and one side of his car wasn't looking too good.

I took my wife in the care with me for the first time ever. I don't think anyone really understands the speed you are going until you are in the car. She only made it 2.5 laps and started to feel nauseous. So pretty sure that will be her last time. I have 3 boys and 2 girls from 19 down to 11 so thinking maybe it is the oldest turn to try it out.

 

BTW is your LS engine dry sumped? If so what system are you using? My 3800SC engine is still holding on but I have an LS1 in the Garage for when it goes out. Still debating on whether I spend the money to make it dry sump or treat it like the 3800SC and if it blows just replace it for $1500.

Thanks I try to keep it both on the track horizontally and vertically as much as I can.

 

I will shoot Jeff H a pm. I haven't seen a Caterham or any other lotus 7 at a track even in years. Would be great to have another guy out there!

LS engine not dry slumped. Using a combination of parts from Improved Racing that show to no longer be available on their web site (baffled oil pan, crank scraper/windage tray combo) and a Canton Racing Accusump. This combo has worked well for me.

That is great to hear! I was afraid that I was going to have more money in a dry sump setup than my engine!

 

Now onto researching accusumps and oil pans.

 

Are you running a TKO600?

 

Since my LS1 with Cam (ASA cam) and LS6 Heads will only do about 400hp/400torque I am planning to use my existing t5 until it blows up (hoping it will take a season as our cars are less than half the weight of the road cars it was used in and rated to handle 300hp/torque). I really need to get a usable 5th gear though. .64 doesn't help at all so I top out in 4th at 117mph.
