DanM
So I bought some starter fluid spray today and gave that a squirt into the throttle body. The engine responded briefly! yay! before a big cloud of spoke started spewing from the exhaust filling my garage. I still have the rising MAP issue so reaching out to megasquirt direct on that one. Next step for me is to remove the fuel rail and injectors to see if they are actually spraying.
DanM
I just tested the injectors and although the harness passed the NOID test and the rail is full of fuel (Ask me how I know) they are not firing. I'm so confused right now, I feel like my head will explode! 😣
DanM
Changed the Gauges on the Tuner studio. The MAP, Fuel Load and Ign Load are all identical!?
fastg
OK, you did some good tests and you know a lot more than you did yesterday. You have sparks and the timing is in the zip code. That is a good injector test. If you don't use the zip ties they fly across the garage:) Did you change the injectors or are they the original injectors? If you have swapped injectors there are high and low impedance injectors that can screw you up. Did you check the ground status? I remember there is a stud on the back of the head on the right side that is the master ground, is there anything attached to that stud? https://mx5unleashed.com/tech/megasquirt-pnp.html Graham
fastg
I think that is the default, i.e. nothing plugged in. I am guessing Fuel Load is fuel pressure, did you an an extra fuel pressure sensor? I have no idea what Ignition Load is in kpa? MAP sensor is disconcerting, but it should still run even with it unplugged, just not run well. Yes, they are the same injectors and I cleaned and bench tested them. 12 minutes ago, fastg said: Did you check the ground status? Yes, Just checked again and it seems to be good. MV8
Have you checked the calibration settings/constants? Go to tools in the top bar, calibration MAP/Baro, and select the type of MAP installed on your board so the correct settings will populate. Megasquirt kits are usually supplied with a MPX4250AP sensor. Fuel and ignition loads are in KPA versus RPM tables, filled with AFR for fuel and degrees of timing for ignition. The 9093 miata base map configures it to a MPXH6400 (It looks like one too). I selected the MPX4250 for fun from the drop down and it changed the MAP value to approx 200 kpa. There is a custom option too where I guess you can put your own values in there. Edited August 24, 2023 by DanM
MV8
How low does the KPA get when cranking? It could be a new, bad map sensor. You could enter custom values to calibrate the sensor kpa/volts based on what the gauge indication should be at your elevation with no other changes to try out. Easy to revert to the specs based on MAP part number. Do not change the original tune. Save as new and rename. The purpose of this is calibration so if the map works well otherwise, no problem. I would expect them to do some testing after assembly. A "burn-in" period would be better still but I doubt they do it. If you can't get tech support by now and custom scaling the values at zero and five volts doesn't fix the issue, I suggest requesting a return on the hardware while you are still in the window. If you cannot exchange, replace the map sensor or to save time, simply buy another assembly to either confirm the problem or shelve as a backup. DanM
It started!!!!!!!!!!! As you can see lots and lots of smoke at first, but it started and stayed alive!!! What was the problem? I contacted Megasquirt and they asked me to open up the units and check the "jumper" configurations inside. We found the issue (MAP related), made the change and she fired straight up!!!! Thank You to everyone for pitching in and getting me into the ball park!!! 🍻 She revs a bit high so have some basic config to play with, but this is now the fun part! Just to close the loop here are the specs: MSPNP2 - MM9093 V1.5 (MSPNP2 1.3b board) mm9093 Miata_3.4.4 base map GM IAT Innovate MTX-L O2 Wideband Internal MAP sensor was a MPXH6400, Baro MPX4115 1

Anaximander
DanM, I am glad that you called Megasquirt. Unfortunately, the forums can sometimes lead you in the wrong direction and most people do not know as much generally about the system as the manufacturer. Congrats as JohnCh said on getting fire to that beautiful build you are doing. Keep remembering that you have joined a relatively small group of people that have brought a whole new car to life. That is quite an accomplishment and you now get to glow (for a few minutes) before you continue the hard work of finishing the project. Then, you get to actually DRIVE your creation. What fun!
