jimmylukeii
I had an unfortunate incident with the left rear wing. See the pics below. The rear wing is relatively cheap at Caterham, and I assume they could paint it to match my "OEM" paint. Problem is that the rear wing is out of stock. I track this thing a lot, so I am not dead set on a new wing. Just want to not fail tech. Any ideas? Drift ties? Auto tape?
bball7754
I had roughly equivalent damage with an off at the track, and I just used colored duck tape (wing is BRG) until I could get a replacement. Steve
Croc
Its superficial paint damage. I would leave it as is or race tape it. That should not fail tech - it still has structural integrity. In the mean time order a new one and get it paint matched. I would get it sent out unpainted and have it professionally matched here. A few of us have had experience of Caterham not being able to match paint colors over time. At least here you guarantee a good chance of matching. jimmylukeii
Great tips, thank you. @Croc great advice on the paint - I was curious if the paint would be consistent coming from the factory. @IamScotticusthanks for the offer - my wife tells me there is a hobby lobby right beside us. Never been in there, but I will try tomorrow!
Jesse D
Easy repair on the backside if you have a crack- I've done it twice from an autocross cone. These fenders are just chopped strand fiberglass and quite weak. Sand the backside and put a couple layers cloth down with resin. Tan inch wider than the crack on each side. Be sloppy, no one can see it. Then sand and fill the outside and put on your tape for now.
kayentaskier
Jimmy, Is your paint Caterham's Hyper Green? If so, I have found it difficult to match here. Caterham was unwilling to sell painted replacements, even to RMC. Josh Robbins is working now on a local (to him) painter to match my Hyper Green wings. You might reach out to him to see if he can help. With that said, if it mostly a track car, racers tape will be a much cheaper solution.
