The Goodwood Track Day sticker is a keeper! I notice NY plates on your 420 which is presumably kept / used in the UK / Europe. Can / do you legally drive it on the street? NY plates vs. UK registration? MOT? Insurance? pros and cons for your purposes?

Great writeup as always, thanks very much for sharing. When I was a kid my dad took me to the SCCA races being run on the perimeter road around Reading (Pennsylvania USA) Airport. It also was used during WWII for training pilots and crews. More up and down than Goodwood, with some 90 degree bends at intersections and so on, so I imagine the experience would have been quite different. The main straight ran down the main runway.

 

I remember the sound of the V12 Jags too! I saw Bob Tullius' Group 44 cars race at Watkins Glen back in period. Quite a noise. I also recall the Matra V12 F1 cars, which were hands down the most glorious sounding engines I have ever heard.

Its actually a comedy plate someone at my previous track day support company put on the car.  Its definitely not legitimately registered or titled in the USA.  It does not have UK MOT and cannot legally drive on the road.  I suppose I could go through the inspection process and get it registered but its a pain to do that and probably the insurance would be prohibitive as a UK non-resident.

One of the Bob Tullius V12 E-Type Jags was at the facility being restored.  It was the late open top convertible model with the classic green strip on white livery.  I'm sorry I did not take a photo of it.  Iconic car and quite successful after a massive amount of development went into them.

There is a magical sound to a V-12 engine. F-1 or production car through mufflers, they all sound great. I was lucky enough to be around group 44 a lot, and there V-12 cars were very load and made music. A question for Croc. Is the Tony Rolt mentioned about the C type jag the same Tony Rolt who ran BRM in the 60s?

No - different people.  Tony Rolt was associated with Connaught F1 and Jaguar amongst other makes of car.  Tony Rudd was BRM.

Great stuff! I particularly enjoyed the video and analysis of track day in the rain at Goodwood. I recall racing in the rain with my full wets beside a few other low budget guys who still had their slicks on at a Pocono SCCA regional a long time ago. For anyone planning a trip to the UK I hope they get a chance to go to Goodwood for the Revival. While not as exciting as driving the track it is a great experience I had 2x.
