Another reason to go see it is the interesting detail that several of the replica cars built for the movie - which looked every bit the part - were Caterham 620 chassis with bodies created by Carrozzaria Campana. Quote cars like the Ferrari 315 S and 355 S and the Maserati 450S, were all highly detailed recreations that sat on Caterham 620 chassis with supercharged inline-four engines. In Caterham form with the Caterham body, those cars weigh just 1364 pounds with the supercharged engine making 310 hp, a heck of a power-to-weight ratio. Again, they were surprisingly fun to drive. “It was a @#$%*&% rocket,” Nagle said. “I was sold the second I started lapping it. Christopher smith Posted January 3 Share Posted January 3 I enjoyed the movie and the way the cars sounded- not sure how they did that but the originals were some naturally aspirated 4 cyl and some v12s so somehow they got great sounds spliced in. Do watch for the downshift to go faster on a straight section and probably more side by side racing than really happened, but otherwise OK. I would also really recommend finding the movie "Ferrari -race to immortality". In this 2017 full length documentary type movie they have many great clips from the original GP and pro level sports car races from late 1950s just before most went rear engined. Of course there were lots of tragic crashes back then and the movie did interview some of the drivers pre-crash and relatives and other drivers post crash. Recordings were made of various examples of the real engine types (including the Maserati V8) which were then used to replace the sounds of the supercharged 2.0 Litre Ford Duratec engines utilized in the Caterham 620r chassis.
