Hi,

I thought I saw someone post the files to have the pieces cut out to make motor mounts for the 711 block.  But I am not finding them now. If anyone has them or can point me in that direction I would appreciate it.  I have an RM7 which as I understand it is basically a knockoff of a Catherham in the 90's.  I purchased it with no drive train, and have acquired a Lotus twincam to install, and am looking for the mounts.

Thanks

Mike

No patterns but lots of pics in this thread.

RM Classics had two models that were essentially the same. The RM7 was the basic version while the RM8 had a bigger passenger compartment, better trimmings in leather, wider wheels, and adjustable suspension. Neither is so close a knock off that these parts would interchange and place the engine where it needs to be. The mounts I've seen are nothing like a Caterham, which typically have jaguar XKE mounts.

Don't forget to set the driveshaft ujoint angles before fabbing between engine plates and mount plates. Post pics after everything is in place if you'd like suggestions on mount bracket design.

The mounting bosses on the left side of the 711M block are about 3/8" thicker than other ford blocks, but they are often milled down to match earlier blocks if an engine is being replaced. Just make sure you double check if using other mounts or engines for reference.

Thanks for all of the input. Here is a pic of the chassis attachment points.  The friend i bought the twincam from thinks he has some motor mounts for a formula ford I can have.  Obviously not a direct fit, but a starting point.  Am I correct in believing this style chassis would use the hockey puck style rubber isolator on this mount?  If so does anyone know the car that part comes from so I can order a pair?

From the pic it looks like the mounting points are close and the standard Lotus or Caterham type mounts would work. I'd mock it up to be sure. MV8 mentioned the XKE mounts, you can find them at most Jag/British parts suppliers:

Not sure if the FF mounts will help or not, but they may be a starting point.

Here is a cross flow in a RM8. The typical CAT mount and arm is barely visible.

Look, man. These cars are hand fit.  Get your drive line set up, engine and everything attached sitting on blocks, rear axle and wheels at loaded ride height, trans mount, whatever, and mock up engine mounts last with PVC pipe and base board. Take the PVC to your welder and fab them.
