Al N.
Having worked on credit card solicitations for several large issuers...I can also add that it was rumored back in the day that you could tape the BRE (business reply envelope) to a brick and the company would have to pay the postage on it. Not that I encourage that sort of behavior.

Birkin42
I remember years ago a guy who got himself on every mailing list he could get on. You ask why! He then took all this junk mail and made it into pressed logs and used it to heat his house. He more or less collected enough junk mail through the year to heat his house for the winter. Not too much help for those down in the sunny south, but not a half bad idea for the rest. Now what to do with all the junk emails!

Donnie
Thanks for starting one of the most entertaining threads of the year. I'm always looking for new ways to handle these offers. Love the drain hair. Hmmmm, maybe now I have a use for all that bellybutton lint I've been saving.

I have started responding to the Sheriff that I am a disabled former San Francisco deputy (true) how do I get on the list to receive procedes, same for the Vet (also true), the response is a click but I still havn't been taken off the call list. bsimon
Businesses are constantly bombarded with these calls as well as time wasting product and service solicitations. Here's how to handle them: Solicitor: "Hi, May I speak to the person in charge of your long distance service?" Victim: "I'm sorry, we don't have a telephone." --------------------------------------------------------- Solicitor: "We are updating our records. Can you give me the serial number on your copy machine?" Victim: "Just a moment, I'll have to get off the machine." "It's three" Solicitor: "Are your sure, there should be more numbers." Victim: "No, I'm sure. It's a very early model." ---------------------------------------------------------- A couple of quick ones to get off the line fast: "We already got one" "Please hold for the next available purchasing agent" "Please call our main office at:

I always say "Thank you, I'm not interested, please remove me from your call list". I rarely get a second call from anyone I say this to as they are required to remove your name if you request it. This along with being on the do not call list keeps my phone relatively free of garbage calls.
slngsht
except the sherrif and EMS fund raisers. I used to pay to a few of them without realizing it because they sounded just alike. Then I realized they call and say "thanks for your contributions last year" after I didn't donate to any of them. ENOUGH. Now I just donate to the guys who come door to door once a year from our local fire company.
Sean
If I ran VISA, I would buy up all the paper shredder manufacturers.

My wife donated to one and my bro inlaw donated to the other over 10 years ago so the natl don't call list does no good with them. We have tried a number of times to politely ask to be removed to no avail so atleast now the calls are short.
