powderbrake
I use State Farm, which I also use for other cars and house. By carrying it with them, my umbrella policy is in effect. I am limited to 7000 miles/year, but no other restictions like Hagerty or the specialty car insurers. It is just another car in the household. Al N.
I'm sure you'll find that many people use their normal carrier (State Farm, etc.) and many use the specialty carriers like Hagerty, ParishHeacock, etc. Hagerty doesn't have a milegage restriction for me (my limit is imposed by the state), but I think I am only supposed to be driving to/from/in car shows and meets — not as a regular commuter. stevet
Like Jerry, mine is with State Farm - bundled up with other cars and household it's about half what I was paying through Parish Heacock. 3000 mile limit I think.
slngsht
Hagerty here. It's a great deal for them, considering my car hasn't been on the road since Nov :ack:

Fortunately, pretty much anywhere you park a Seven turns into a show of some sort or other. I am with Hagerty as well and have been very happy with them. Their customer service has always been great and they came through when I had a big claim (on my way back from a club meet!)
WestTexasS2K
State Farm agreed value coverage no restrictions, just have to have another vehicle for daily transport. 460.00 per year full coverage with 500k liability. Took all of 5 min. with my agent. Of course like most others I have home and 3 autos with them. My agent said they will not cover if you do not have the other policies. If you walk in off the street and only want that policy they will say no thanks. They do it for their customers. That is a reason why I am their customer. Davemk1
Hagerty for my Birkin. Agreed value and unlimited mileage. They asked how many miles a year I might drive the car and I told them 10,000. They asked where am I going with all those miles. I told them that everything in MT is far away and I work from home and drive for fun. OK they said. I think I pay something like $320 for the year. solder_guy
Hagerty here. It's a great deal for them, considering my car hasn't been on the road since Nov :ack: Ditto! Hagerty also! My car is still up on four jackstands .. State Farm ... If you walk in off the street and only want that policy they will say no thanks. State Farm covered me for the first six months of last year .. and it was my only coverage .. In January I switched to Hagerty ($230/year). I need to build a small garage at home to to continue coverage with them. Rob
sparecr
State Farm $500 yr (car insured in VA), house, apartment, 9 cars, life, umbrella. No milage limits no restrictions, but since I work at a "car show" I could live with restrictions. I also run real VA plates. (plus I totaled my wifes car last year and had a small happening in my truck)
Jim F.
$581 for stand-alone Hagerty policy on my Caterham, $35K agreed value, $250K/$500K BI, $100K PD, $15K PIP, $250K/$500K UM, UM PD $10K per accident, $0 ded. on collision/other than collision (part D), no limit on mileage. When I was first looking for insurance in 6/03, as I was about to take delivery of my new Cat, I talked to a lot of classic car club members and had a list of about 8 insurers with whom their cars were insured, but only Hagerty had the best coverage without restrictions (aside from no on-track competition) so I went with them. My first year agreed value was at $51K and came with a price. Each year I reduce the agreed value and my premium will slowly come down. For what it's worth, hope this helps. breezy7
I went with Hagerty since they were the only company I found that would cover the Caterham during the build process. State Farm told me they would cover the parts under my house policy if I left them in the boxes they came in but once I started the build I was on my own. Hagerty's coverage was in effect once I got the car 50% completed. I also told Hagerty that I would be using the car for occasional trips and the car would be left out overnight and they said "no problem" but seem to get conflicting answers on that point. I don't see where my policy addresses the issue, anyone have experience with that ?

sparecr
Hagerty policies will normally have a locked garage statement, meaning the car must be kept in a permenant locked structure of some sort. As far as leaving your car in a hotel parking lot it would vary policy to policy, but look for line of sight in the policy. Many companies will hide this, but it means if you cannot see the car it is not insured (ie if you are sleeping in your hotel, if you are in the restroom, if your back is turned). On a friendly note I know the owner of Hagerty personally and he is a great guy who supports the hobby. He has done a lot to help us be able to use our cars and keep them insured. There is a nice article on one of his cars in the 11/07 issuse of Sports Car Market. (Remember I insure with Stae Farm so this isn't a plug but something to keep in mind.) Jim Grundy is also a car guy (Grundy Insurance).
Mondo
Just checked with my carrier, Farmers Insurance, and they want $1200 a year. That includes the same coverage/umbrella as my other cars; can drive as much as I want. I'll check with Hagerty. And maybe switching everything to State Farm (4 cars, house & umbrella). xflow7
Hmmm .. Hagerty said that they would not write a policy for me for keeping the car in a carport (attached to the house and away from the street). Rob Keep in mind that Hagerty doesn't actually underwrite the policy themselves; they work with various other underwriters to actually insure the cars. Hagerty is really just an issuer in between. Therefore, I suppoose depending on which underwriter(s) they work with in a given state, the precise terms of the policy could vary from state to state. breezy7
I talked to a Hagerty rep today concerning using my car for occasional trips . I explained to her that the car is used for trips of 2-4 days and that obviously the car would not be kept in a locked garage when not in use. She said that type of usage was fine and their concern is that the car is not left ouside on a permanent basis. I would think they would put the garage restriction into the policy, it is not in mine and would seem hard to enforce if not written into the policy. Hank
The suggestions above are helpful, but how do I go about insuring my Megabusa for track use as well as street use? Would I have to get a separate rider to cover that, or a separate insurance altogether?
