Black primer

I like it, the car looks quite evil, interesting to see it on something other than a hot rod...

from what I've read many spray clear over it for a suede effect (and to prevent rust, though that would not be an issue for your car :7rain: )

There's a guy here in Savannah who painted is integra with black chalkboard paint... and leaves a cup with several different color sticks of chalk sitting on top of his car everywhere he goes. Unique graphics that change every time it rains...

Oh the fun of living in an artsy fartsy town.

I like the flat black tho - chalk or no chalk.

Chet, is that your car's current paint scheme? Your Avatar pic shows a white car.

I love matte black/primer Se7ens, although I'm a bit tired of the trend in "normal cars"...the first back one I recall seeing was Chris F.'s from Texas. They look soo mean. I don't think I could personally pull it off, unless it were in some crazy motored one. You know, with the guts to back up the paint job.

It's the same car. The white is the bare gel coat before painting. The pic above is with a few cans of black primer. The aluminum bodywork was done with black prepainted aluminum from performancebodies.com. Eventually I will paint it some color or another, but the flat black is sort of growing on me.

As for it having "the guts to back up the paint job" (or lack of paint job) I doubt it would meet your standards. It has a stock Miata 1.8 liter however a low boost turbo is in the plans when time and $$ permits.

I think the primer black suits it since it pretty much meets the definition of a Sevenish rat rod. I've got less than $5k in the whole thing and it's pretty much a compilation of junkyard parts.

Thanks for the comments.

*Edit* I updated the avatar for you.

Hi Chet,

Love the rat rod look. The suggestion of red wheels and chrome hubcaps would really look sharp.

In the spirit of rat rods, I have some parts you might be interested in for turboing your 1.8.

Turbo exhaust manifold from an '04 Mazdaspeed Miata and the smallish intercooler as well as some of the plumbing you might be able to chop up and use. All of it is cheap.

Let me know if you are interested.
