slngsht
I know sometimes it takes a long time to load for me, and Skip has mentioned that a few times too. I'm looking at another hosting provider since our contract is up in December. I'll let you guys know how it goes... anyone else have speed issues with the site in general? Arya Ebrahimi
I'll pile on as well. I don't come here that often 'cause it takes forever to load. I usually open this site and browse other forums waiting for pages to load here.
Ian7
I know staggeringly little about how the internet actually works ( ) but my impression is that slow-to-load websites tend to have too much data on the 'top' page. A site I visit often (www.apexspeed.com/forums) has an option on each level for user-selection of how many of the previous days postings it will display on initial request, which again I believe affects the speed of displaying on my computer. (I explained badly, go see what I mean...) cheers
bsimon
Mazda, The home page always loads fast, so it seems. It's the subsequent pages that have a considerable response time. I've only noticed the problem in the past two weeks or so. I'd venture a guess the hosting service needs file maintenance or a hardware upgrade. (I explained badly, go see what I mean...) cheers It's entirely possible the forum software is poorly written, but given the size of our forum, I doubt it. Also, the General section (the page that lists the topics, is just over 200 KB when downloaded, so it's pretty small). When I get the new site up, I will post a link here for direct side by side comparisons. That will tell us for sure. The problem we have is that we are not big enough for dedicated hosting (our own web servers). So we are on a shared box with possibly hundreds of other applications, so it depends on how responsible (or irresponsible) our hosting provider is about making sure the sites don't slow down. Stay tuned....
powderbrake
Yes it has become slow. Both the main page and topic selections are slower than before. I was going to mention it because it has become so irritable, but you beat me to the punch.
MHKflyer52
Mazda, Your still doing a great job and the forum is still one of the best no mater what any of us say about it. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.

slngsht
I'd be willing to kick in for a dedicated server, anyone else? Skip Well, it's the per month hosting that's expensive... give me a couple of days. I think the new solution will be pretty good.
slngsht
well, I have been working on this thing... those of you who would like to test... take a look at this site: http://www.usa7s.net/aspnetforum/default.aspx THAT SITE IS NOT UP TO DATE, AND WILL GET WIPED BEFORE THE ACTUAL TRANSITION. It's just so a few of us can compare page load speeds. Try comparing pages without pictures, as that site doesn't yet have the latest uploads from the production site. slngsht
another idea I'm toying with is blocking site access to Russia, China, etc... Invariably, I look at the admin pages, and the site is being hit by 50-60 sessions from one IP address. When I look it up, traffic originates from those 2 countries
