It was not required to get the car licensed as the VIN is stamped into the chassis. I have seen several Caterhams with the plate mounted on the front of the pedal box and it looks like there might be something attached there on this one. The doors are built with 2 holes in the framework (under the door skin). Not only are they worthless when the doors are off (they aren't there!) but it complicates storage in the already tight boot. Not cheap but at least they're there when the doors are removed. Tom, I bet 150 hp makes it easy to handle; but having spent last Sunday on a dusty, 50 degree ambient temp autocross course with street tires, I can attest that 200 hp ain't easy, but it's fun! yellowss7 Posted November 22, 2008 Share Posted November 22, 2008 Like I said Brad, I really enjoy my car, and after every run during an autox, me and my passengers are laughing hyterically and breathing real hard. It is sooo much fun. But it is way too easy to break the back end loose with the throttle, even with 10 inch wide slicks. These cars are just flat out fun to drive whatever the power level. I'm just not good enough to utilize all that power, but I still enjoy it. My point is that you can save a boatload of money by buying a good used one, especially one in the 135-150 power range, and then if needed drop in a higher power Duratec or Zetec. It's like the wink mirrors you used to see on the SCCA production cars. No affiliation, bought mine at www.mirrorsforsevens.com. Not carbon fiber, not super cool, but you can see what's going on! It's MUCH less expensive than a new one, and, at least for me, the purchase price was just the starting point of the investment (upgradeitis is an addiction!). So whatever one pays, there's always more $$$$ to spend as one discovers the idiosyncracies and opportunities of his/her car. Tom, I wouldn't dis anyone's 7, I was simply noting that more hp can equal even more fun. Of course, my car is a slug by Ebrahimi standards, so there's always a bigger fish. I have 196hp and i'm sure if I ever had to replace this engine, I would go for a Duratec with even more. As for Mazda's massive hp. His car also weighs about 3,000 pounds or more. :jester: So his power to weight ratio is suspect. Also have video of him at an autox. He's pootling around the course at about 1500 rpm because he can't use the power. :rofl: :rofl: :jester: An BTW Mazda, I haven't seen the actual final weight posted yet. Croc Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 This was one of the cars I checked out in person late last year when I was travelling around the US (FL, TX and IL) looking at cars. I thought it was a very clean car in nice condition. As an added bonus I found the owner a really nice guy to chat with. Echoing the comments above, at the new lower price I think this is great value - even better than when I looked at it. Only reason I did not end up buying it was I had 2 other cars to choose from with similar prices and competitive specs. It took quite a few beers to chew it over with my buddies to choose which one.
