Locost finally done

Picked up a little piece of metal from the georgia DMV. It says historic on it (Ha). And so ends the 19 month journey of building a locost-I guess now it is call 'modifying' instead of 'building'.

Many thanks Rob (solder_guy) for his advice/assistance/help/support/gifts. I followed his path to get the tag. It was not hard at all. I finally feel like my account on this forum is finally truely valid. I cannot wait to go on some blats!

Some stats:

Locost frame

2.4L 22RE engine

4.10:1 LSD supra diff

5 speed w58 toyota trans

QA1 proma star single adjustable shocks

Toyo 225/50/R14 R888 tires

It still has some work to be truely 'streetable' but it runs, drives, and is legal!

:hurray: the more 7's on the road, the better...

just gotta ask though, top photo, a trailer hitch?

I thought about putting one on mine. mostly for towing a tire trailer.

Then I thought " you know, if my tow vehicle breaks down..." :jester:

No need for a stinking trailer :jester: .....(although I must admit this was an emergency solution to get to a track day when my tow car broke down)

I have seen more professional solutions for this purpose.

Congratulations Andrew! :hurray: I was talking about my journey to get my tag from the Georgia DMV and how you were proceeding too. I am so glad it worked out ..

Grill looks great on your nose cone .. I like the trailer hitch .. and the tow points on both the front and rear ends!

Now I gotta get off my arse and finish my Rotus restoration!

Rob

The abe lincoln is holding a boombox on the hood, and that is mario on the back.

So far, I've gone on two late night blats (about the only time Atlanta streets are clear...) and had tons of fun. I have also done a drifting event (just go try it!!!) and an auto-x test and tune, and a few car meets (at the Varsity).

Nicely done! It looks better than many factory built cars. With the 4x114.3 bolt pattern, you have massive amount of aftermarket wheels at your disposal.

Is there a reason you chose the 22RE/w58 as opposed to 4ag/t50? I was also suprised to hear you're using a supra rear end - those things are huge!

What knuckles/rack are you using? There are a few tricks you can do to get a bit more steering angle out of the car.

Thanks for the compliments. It was well worth the effort.

I am really happy with the hood. The cutout as a whole didnt take too long (a few days work?)...just lots of test fitting and hammering over rounded wooden blocks.

I'm a little backwards. I got my donor car (free) before I decided to build the locost. So that defined the 22RE/w58. I like the torque and reliability. We'll see how hard it is to get more of the first though.

The supra rear end is sort of a hack job to get a cheap junkyard LSD in there (it uses only 4 of 8 bolt holes, and puts the axles at some bad angles). The mounts are designed for the smaller celica rear end. Eventually I will put ae86 corolla GTS insides into my celica diff, or just build up a new unit with an aftermarket LSD. It has the celica diff in it now, and I dont like the 3.8:1 ratio, 1-wheel burnouts, or metal-on-metal noise. $$ issue for now (but the supra diff can still go in for drift days, etc).

The rack is a triumph spitfire rack. The knuckles are modified mcphereson struts from the celica, swapped side to side to give front steer instead of rear steer. There is quite a bit of anti-ackerman at full lock that I'd love to get rid of, and more steering angle couldn't hurt!

time to go exercise her before bed!
