MNlotus Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 i recently sent my lotus to FVMC to have some parts added, and also just bought a new caterham. i got my lotus about 3 days ago and now i got my seven! i just have a few questions though. how do you put it into reverse? i tried going all the way over but it only wants to go in 1st. also i only know what half of the buttons and switch do. can someone fill me in. other then that i love it already, even though i have to wait till may 6th for the inspection.
Al N. Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) IIRC, if you have the 6 speed, you push the knob down (towards the floor) and forward when it is lined up on the left side of the gate. I also remember having to make an effort to pull it up out of that gate or be stuck in R... As for all the buttons...worthwhile to buy a manual from Cat USA (if only to try and figure out the British-isms). One of them is for the brake warning sensor (I assume when pads and/or fluid are too low). Edited April 16, 2009 by Al Navarro
pksurveyor Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 You can download the manual from the Cateham Uk site. To get in reverse, I use two hands to push the gear lever down.
xflow7 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Cool! Can't speak for the gearbox, but I'd guess push down on the lever. As for the illuminated toggle switches (from left to right including the one to the left of the steering wheel) they are probably: Headlights Windshield wipers Windshield washer Heater fan (if equipped) Heated Windshield Parking/Fog Light (if equipped; probably not - this is a European thing) Hazards Brake Check The toggle lever switches will be: Hi-beams (all the way to the left) Hi-beam flash (just to the left of steering wheel) Turn signal (3-pos switch to the right of steering wheel)
MNlotus Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 thanks, i'll have to look at the symbols on the switches to figure which one is which. i noticed you do have to push down pretty hard to get it into reverse. i also noticed that i need to buy some pumas or something, all my shoes hit the brake and gas at the same time. also, how big is the tank? thanks for the replies, now just wait 2 weeks before i can drive it. i dont know if i wanna risk driving it with no plates or registration.
MoPho Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 here you go http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/technical/handbook.pdf .
scannon Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Gas tank holds 8 gallons I believe. If you have an SV model, the tank holds 10 gallons but starts to suck air on hard cornering at 1/4 tank. Skip
Kitcat Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 My non-SV has a 9 gallon tank. Gas guage hits empty when 1 1/2-2 gallons are left in the tank. I ran it all the way down til it died last year (w/a 1 gallon gas jug at the ready) and then put 9 gallons in it.
MNlotus Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 yeah im really thinking i should at least drive it up and down my street a few times.
solder_guy Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/technical/handbook.pdf For the USA model, are all the switches placed in the locations of a mirror image of the UK one? Rob
MoPho Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 For the USA model, are all the switches placed in the locations of a mirror image of the UK one? Rob Yes. Everything is pretty much self explanatory, with exception to the windshield washer switch (logo looks like a pic of a transmission) and the brake failure warning switch Climate control is the right pedal in the footwell, push down for cooler, release for warmer. Fan switch is for even more warmerer (if you have heater installed)
KiwiBirkin Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Buy some racing boots, all seven type cars have the same narrow footwell and most people have the same promblem as you
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Buy some racing boots, all seven type cars have the same narrow footwell and most people have the same promblem as you If only I could get my converse all stars nomex lined...
