considering color change

Before i got my 7 i said to myself that i will never buy another black car. now after owning it for 2 years im thinking of repainting the black into a brown peal color.

 

thoughts?

Brown? root beer color?

 

humbly... it would be my last possible choice for a car, besides panty hose beige.

 

black is tough to keep perfect, but the brown is just..a very 70's grandfatherly color.

sorry... i never thought brown was attractive on a vehicle.

 

maybe gold?

Our town is probably one of the dustiest in the country and swore I would never own a black car as well.... I figured the 7 was small enough, and covered in the garage, that I could keep it clean. A shiny black car is hard to beat for looks though. Plus. all you need is a black sharpie to cover small chips;)

 

I had a metallic root beer brown car in the late 70s, it was bitchin man. Any dark color is going to be a pain to take care of.

color is a matter of personal taste... brown doesn't do much for me, but then again you've seen what my car looks like LOL

That's my preference as well. People have a hard enough time seeing such a small, low car that I hate to compound the situation with a dark color. Taking my paranoia one step further, I’d also steer away from red. Last summer while driving behind my Westfield on a very sunny day, I noticed that the brake lights didn’t stand out against the red background as well as I’d hoped.

 

Cue Al or Morgan to extol the virtues of orange

Orange is very nice - as is yellow. White is growing on me as well (hey Hank )

I went with SCHOOL BUS YELLOW for just that reason......People tent to see it and red tail lights stand out against it.

My Stalker is black and while it does show dust and dirt it does have one major advantage.

 

The stone chips are easy to touch up with a black felt tip pen! Try that with your pearls and browns and yellows!

 

BTW, I had a '72 Datsun 240Z "back in the day" that was a very fashionable metallic root beer brown. I later found out that the factory (for whom I worked) had announced that the color was "unmatchable" so far as body repairs were concerned. The problem wasn't the base color, it was the gold metallic which was laid on in the clear coat.

 

They dropped the color in '74.

 

Given how easy it is for our cars to "sandblast" themselves I would suggest a solid color unless you like to repaint them every year or two.

I have only ever owned black/grey/silver Japanese/German cars. Black way cool, but have to keep it clean. My favorite combo has always been BRG/tan leather, but seemed wrong for Japanese/German. However, when my wife got her Cooper S Convert, I begged/pleaded/whined enough that she got the BRG/tan (plus, I signed the check). Looks great.

I'd rather drink root beer than look at it on my car :lol: However, it doesn't seem too safe of a color
