OK with the first post out of the way it is time to ask for a bit of help.

Many of you know from first hand experience that LOG is fun. Hopefully everyone on this forum knows that all Se7ens are welcome at LOG. What you may not know is that it takes a great deal of work and a never ending stream of ideas to keep LOG fresh.

I have taken on the role of contest chair (i.e., craft, long distance awards…). To fulfill my role successfully I need your help. I need your ideas. I need your constructive criticism of past LOG contests. Please send me a private email of any ideas you may have. If they are related to contests I promise that I will carefully consider your thoughts and opinions. If they are related to other aspects of LOG I will send them on to the appropriate person and maintain your anonymity if you so desired.

Dean, how about a build a 7 event. Get one of the manufacturers to donate a kit and have it built that weekend and Raffle it off. Money to be donated or fund the cost of the kit, if it's not a freebie.

I love that idea Tom!

Here's another: In the spirit of the UK Club's event at the Santa Pod dragstrip, what about a "US's fastest Seven" drag contest? I know it's not really what these cars are about, but that makes it all the more fun (in my opinion).

Two more:

- A contest for erecting a Se7ens top in the shortest amount of time...and half hoods don't count!

- Best Tamiya 1/12 scale Seven model (with a prize of a NIB Tamiya Seven...those things go for big dollars on eBay)

- I've always liked "Best Spirit of the Club (Lotus Ltd. or USA7s) as a potential category...you can't nominate yourself, of course.

I like these suggestions and have added them to my list of possibilities.

Keep the ideas coming.

I urge anyone to consider becoming a sponsor of LOG 30. Opportunities abound for sponsorship at all levels. If you have a special event in mind consider financial or in kind sponsorship, a bit of grease can easy the way.

Me, too.....preferably a little closer to the West Coast than the last one ;-)

I am beginning to wonder about Texas. Right in the middle, a bunch of Seveneers living there, nice tracks like MSR and the Hill Country for some leisure drives.

Anyway, just an idea.....Maybe together with a Southwest Sevens Festival?

And it was discussed that the next USA7s national should be seperate from LOG. We did the joint thing because of the location and Lotus collection, plus the economy. USa7s however would like to have a good showing at LOG. There right now is a big push to get as many 7s there as possible.

I'm sure the 7's showing at LOG will be strong based on where it's being held next year.

I think there is usually a portable dyno at these events - bring some scales, and let's do a head to head power to weight ratio contest.

Of all the ideas so far, I like the build-a-seven one the best.

I expect a strong showing of all manner of Se7ens at LOG 30

Lotus Ltd’s 30th annual

Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 30)

October 8th through 11th 2010

Gettysburg Pennsylvania

Northern Virginian, Maryland, DC and parts of Pennsylvania are hotbeds of Se7en activity. Since LOG 30 will be closer to New England, another hotbed of Se7en activity, many people who skipped LOG in the past few years or have taken more comfortable highway cars will take their Se7ens to LOG 30.

I know of 8 Lotus Seven owners that have already made commitments to have their cars there, http://www.SimpleSevens.com is keeping a list. One Mark VI owner says he will bring his car and another Mark VI is a strong possibility. I also know of several owners of non-Lotus Seven style cars who have said that they will probably attend with their cars. For an event over a year away this is a very strong level of commitment.

One of the issues is that many people who traditionally attend LOG have several cars that they could bring. We have that "problem" ourselves. Taking 1 car to LOG is easy, more than one gets much more difficult. Se7en attendance will be somewhat weather dependent. If there is a strong possibility of rain I expect several people will leave their Se7en in the garage and take something more rain proof like their M100 or Esprit.

The LOG committee have discussed having scales and a dyno but I never thought of turning them into a contest.

Loudest

Lowest

Lowest weight

Highest HP

Highest power to weight

I guess reversing some of these (e.g., lowest power to weight) might be fun.

At one LOG there was a prize for the newest owner (won by a guy who had taken delivery of a new car that day) and longest time owner.

Please keep your ideas coming.

  • 2 weeks later...

The LOG 30 committee held another meeting over the weekend. Committee positions are being filled, although there is always room for more volunteers. Many husband and wife teams are stepping up to fill the various positions of this massive event.

If anyone wishes to help out with in any way please feel free to send me a private message.

I am particularly interested in talking with anyone who has knowledge of or experience in

- graphic arts

- staging art gallery exhibitions

- children's art

At this stage of the game the messy business of contracts is the pacing activity. Many of the event details depend on what comes out of the contract negotiations.

SimpleSevens http://www.simplesevens.org/ is keeping a list of the people who have committed to attending LOG 30 with original Lotus Sevens.

LOG is only 15 months away!

More ideas for events:

- Paintball

- Talent show

- Ice cream social

- Darts

- Slot car racing

So what do You think? They are definitely different from the normal LOG events.
