for yet another weekend, I could only make one of the two days.

This time, Arya tagged along for his first autox.

The car did better with lower tire pressures, but still ages behind Jeff and Gary. They ran in the 44s compared to my 50s. Slicks account for part of that time, the rest is driver and car.

When you can drive Frankn7 without having to act like a responsible citizen, you realize how much more traction the car can use :D. I had a couple of multi-cone pileups on my last two runs as I tried to push the car a little harder. That was fun :D

I've been asked not to come back though, until I can get a hood on my engine :( It's one of those projects I have been really putting off, but I guess now I have some motivation.

Mazda,

It was great having you and Arya up in Cumberland. You both ran quite well. Sorry I wasn't able to stick around for the 4th heat - my bride had advised me to be home for dinner, and failure on my part would have led to grave (maybe literally) consequences.

Jeff crushed me this weekend - I've got to figure out a way to speed up my heap or disable his.

Mazda, Glad you and Arya made it on Sunday. I had to bail early to head out to FLA so sorry I missed your last run. With the run/worker setup it was hard to find time to talk to you guys but it was good to meet Arya.

You looked good to me from what I saw. Tires make a big difference and I'm sure you have no problem finding the limits of adhesion :-)

Gary,

The competion sure does feel like it has stepped up another notch. Lots of different people/car combos in the top 10.

Maybe we should offer to spray people's tires down between runs at the next event with a 'special formula'. ;-)

Are they afraid your engine will gobble up all those tasty orange cones? :D

heh, he said that's the rules... if we let you in, half the cars here will ditch their hoods next time. (secretly i was like  ).

I had a blast at this autox. 1st, because there were 6 runs. 2nd, because there was a fast section in the back where you run half way up 3rd before having to get on the brakes for a right hander. I tell ya, those cones start flyin' by quick...

Mazda, curriously, I don't think the SCCA rules require a hood/bonnet in DM/EM. At least a couple times, at regional events, when it was really hot out, I was told that I could run with the bonnet off if I wanted to to control the heat.

Never read the rules that closely though.

Mazda,

Make one out of colth from the nose cone to the cowl just over the center of the engine about 20 inches wide. Light weight and easy to due and it would be hard to tell you it is not a hood as I do not know of any rules that say you have to have a steel hood or fiberglass.....just a sugestion.

results are up: http://www.nationalroadrally.com/sizzler_09.html The Reynards are extremely hard to beat not to mention the crazy fast Cobras, and a heavily modded Subaru.

Another bike engined LSIS made it's debut but has some suspension teething pains. It will be interesting to see how it does as it gets sorted out. That makes 4 7s which is double what we had last year. It would always be great to get a few more to come out and join the fun this year. Maybe we could target the Pumpkin carve in Oct and show up en force.

The SCCA Solo rule book seems to require hoods in the Mod categories. Says hoods can be modified as needed to allow for induction systems. Doesn't say they can be removed, and do list other stuff that can be removed (bumpers, etc.), See Rule 18.1A. Perhaps a vestigial hood cld be used and you cld argue the hood was so modified for your induction system?

I never went to an auto-x where the organizers or other competitors cared about the legality of a non-competitive car. I should add that my car was never challenged:).
