Sports & Exotic Car magazine article

Recommended Posts

I am new to this "world". I saw an article in Hemmings Sports & Exotics and was intrigued. Their article stated that there are "wide" body kits available, but did not list any. I would appreciate any help in this area as I am a big guy who would like to have fun! Thank you.

Al,

Welcome aboard!

Two of the Seven-type cars that have a little extra width, and are availble in the US in kit form, are the Caterham SV and its higher-spec variant, the Caterham CSR. Both are 4 inches wider through the cockpit than the standard, traditional Caterham Series 3.

I believe the Caterham SV chassis is 4" wider and maybe 7" longer than the Standard Caterham or original Lotus 7.

The Stalker V6, shown on the front cover of the April HS&EC, is 4" wider and 7" longer with most oF the additional space in the driver/passenger compartment. You might want to contact Dennis Brunton about your specific needs via the Stalker V6 web site, http://www.stalkerv6.com Let him know what region of the country you live and possibly arrange a visit with a Stalker owner.

Congrats Jack!

Hopefully it'll be in the mailbox when I get home tonight.

Thanks Bruce. The photos were taken at Topaco Lodge on the TOTD during 7-7-7. I had just about given up on the thought that anything was ever going to be published. David Travors Adolphus was fun to work with during the shoot. I still have not received my copy of the magazine. Found out by accident about two weeks ago about the cover shot...Couldn't hardly contain myself as a frequent visitor to this site. Was anxious to see who recognized the car....YOUR THE WINNER.

Al,

If you live anywhere close to Denver, you are welcome to do a test fit in my Caterham SV. I suspect most anyone with an SV or the others mentioned above would be happy to let you sit in their cars to check out the fit. You might even get a ride.

Check out as many different configurations as you can until you find the one that works best for you.

The Caterham SV is 4" wider and 3" longer in the cockpit. I've had a 6' 6" person in the passenger seat and he said he was comfortable.

Jack - That has to be so cool to have your car on the front cover of a magazine! I thought the picture could have been taken at TOTD due to the "7" sticker on the headlight. I remember you and your car and I think my comment to you was "I love the paint job....the nose reminds me of an Indy roadster" or something like that. I just wish my Birkin was done so I could have taken it on some of the drives. Nancy's MINI is not as much fun!! :)

Congrats Jack! It's really cool to see your car on the cover of the magazine. Thanks again for letting me drive your car when I met you at Run n Gun. This is the only time I can show my friends a magazine cover and say "I drove that car!".

Bruce- You are correct, the paint job on the nose was inspired by long time Indy Car Roadster builder, A.J. Watson. He often used scallops in his paint themes. I miss those old roadster days. By the way, Mr. Watson still lives in Speedway, IN and is doing very well. He is still my hero and I love seeing many of his old cars now being restored.

Delayne- Yes I remember spending a good bit of time with you talking about Se7ens and you driving the car. I know you are enjoying the Birkin. Hopefully our paths will cross again soon.

Jerry- What are we going to do about Run N Gun? Go to Nebraska? Maybe Delayne can meet us there.

Thanks Scott,

Were you and Mary able to hook up with Dennis B and David S for some auto-x runs or did Mary put the fear of defeat in them. Should be a fun day if you can get everybody together.

Would be a sight to see...!!

David S will be there tomorrow. I'm not sure about Dennis. I have to turn up the Talent Knob tomorrow. I can't let Mary do that twice in a row!!!! The event is in Sarasota.

The rain is supposed to move out tonight, should be a fun day.

I just looked at the Run N Gun website, and saw that it is Hastings this year. I checked and it's about 550 miles for me. I will consider going, depends on what is happening later this summer. It would be nice to run a different track. I didn't run this past year because I'm a bit tired of Gateway, and I really don't like the concrete walls.

Thank you all for the information. As I am writing this, my whole world has turned upside down. First my wife lost her job, then I had an accident at work and will most likely be needing major knee surgery, so my plans will have to be put on the back burner for now. I will keep reading this forum to keep my dream alive. Thank you again!
