A couple of other choices in that size are the Avon CR500 and Toyo RA-1. I recently replaced a set of R888s with RA-1s on my car, and for the street, I prefer the latter. Although the R888 have better lateral and longitudinal grip, the softer sidewall of the RA-1 seems happier on a light car like a se7en – there is something about the handling that’s a little more engaging with that tire fitted. They also wear great. I put 3000 miles on them last month, and they still look new. BTW this is not a knock against the R888. I really like that tire and was hesitant to make the switch, but I was going on tour and decided the smart thing was to have the more rain friendly RA-1 on the car.

Looks like best is Toyota proxes r888 185/70/13

Twobone, I think you mean 185/60-13. Toyo doesn't offer a 70 series in the R888 or RA-1.

thanks John, you are right.

One question for you

I found when I had RA1s on my 911, the tires kicked up a hail of gravel due to the soft compound. What is your experience with your 7 and these tires?

All R-compound tires will throw up a lot of gravel. I run mudflaps up front which look a bit ungainly, but keep the gravel under control.

I have had sizable road rash to my rear fenders since moving to RA1's as my street tire. Price of admission, I guess. Also the best improvement to the car's performance to date, easily better than all other improvements put together.

Bumping this thread rather than starting a new one. I'm coming up stonewalled trying to find a 13" tire that isn't going to eat up my entire budget for the car this year. I don't track the car, and the old TwinCam has only 100 or so horses, so I don't really need an R compound. I am not having much luck finding anything else, though. Sumitomo has discontinued the HTR200, which looked like it would fit the bill for my purposes - reasonable performance and reasonable price. The only options I am finding are the Toyo R compounds (eating up all of the available funds) and one tire that fits the affordable qualification from Nankang. ( http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/nankang/205%252F60-13+nankang+xr611+86h+bsw.html ) Does anyone know anything about this tire? I haven't been able to find reviews anywhere. Three of these for the price of one Toyo is appealing, and also leaves me funds for other areas of the car this summer.

You may want to be careful as those sideways are REALLY small. That means minimal ground clearance.

Tire Rack is still selling the HTR T4 - which offers better all weather performance at the cost of dry weather performance - in contrast to the HTR 200

After searching and searching, and finding that the variety of 13" tires seems to gets small every passing day, I just ordered a set of Falken Ziex 185/60 r 13 from tires-easy.com

I found the website via a mention on a Canuk forum that seemed to be focused around Fiats. It looks like it is a closeout site, ans they list how many they have in stock, and none of the numbers are big. They also say to buy it if you see what you're looking for, as their inventory is constantly changing and stock is not guarenteed.
