WestTexasS2K
I was going to give everyone an update on how the Organic Racing Team is doing in the 2010 Fireball run. Kevin and Michelle are attending this years event. I say attending because Kevin said "we are going to go and just take it easy, relax and really unwind and enjoy ourselves. It is to much work to run in front. Since I am running my Excursion I cant really compete on the road coarse so we are going to take it easy" First Event of the whole event is a 1.8 road racing circuit in Nevada. The first call I get from Kevin goes like this. " We did the road coarse today. Man I had that b@@*h sliding with all four tire howling blowing dirt up in every corner. I passed a Charger SRT8 the first lap and a Mustang the 2nd lap and was gaining on the first car but ran out of time and brakes" They run in groups with 20 sec staggered start, they run 3 laps with total time accumilation for the 3 laps. Then they give you points according to your overall placement. Kevin got 11th place out of 35 in a 10,000lb with a 6" lift big tires diesel Excursion tow vehicle. They then go to the autoX portion of the event here he takes 2nd place in the event. After 2nd days they were in 7th place. After last night they are in 1st place overall. Im thinking. Its a good thing they are relaxing and enjoying the event and not stressing over the competition..
MHKflyer52
Would love to see the "Excursion tow vehicle" doing it's thing and I would love to be a fly on the wall of the folks that Kevin passed on that road course......can imagine what they were thinking when he passed them and was gaining on the first car....what the F is going on is my car slow or what….. Thanks for the report and be safe and keep the greasy side down in that Ford.

rnr
Congrats! Live standings are at http://www.fireballrun.com/scores/index.php and make interesting reading. The next 3 cars after OGR are an E63 AMG, Camarao and Corvette. 5th place is a Smart FourTwo.
WestTexasS2K
I really comes down to driving. Some of the competitors have the minimum 2 day driving course and have way faster cars just don't know how to drive them fast.
slomove
Looks like the Smart is now in 2nd place? And there is a Ford Model T in 28th place but still with some points. Strange race, I guess I need to read up a bit more.
Mondo
That's funny. I bet they're really having fun... nothing to lose (except gas mileage).
WestTexasS2K
It is a different kind of race for sure. It is touted as a Transcontinental Adventure Rally. It consist of a few racing venues that work alot like the Connonball Run. You run 3 consecutive laps with a total time for the 3 laps. Fastest car gets 100 points the second place car get 99 and so on. They also are given a packet for each day. In the packet there will be a CD with messages on it. The message is a clue to a place or thing that you have to solve. You then have to go to that place or thing and take a picture with either your car or a member of your team with the place or thing. You might have as much as 30 or more challenges to accomplish or try to accomplish in route to the next destination. YOu will recieve so many points for task completed that combines for overall score. Third component is arrival time at the end destination. You get points according to arrival time. This goes to the final score. They also have bonus items at each destination city. For example on of the citys had big clay pots all over town. You got 10 points for each pot you find. Some teams found 3 or 4 Kevin and Michelle found 9. So with this scoring system poor performance in one area can be made up with good performance in another catagory. The team that performs well in all areas is the winner.
Silk
Loren, Thanks for the news flash on the Fireball. Good to hear Kevin and Michelle are enjoying themselves. Must be odd for them to be in one of these events driving something with a top and a radio. Reminds me of the year Robert Dubler showed up for One Lap in a Tahoe and finished mid-pack. WestTexasS2K
Dubler drives everything on two wheels, even when there are four perfectly good ones. He makes some mean chocolate too.

Waiting for the video http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?id=14924137380#!/album.php?aid=221289&id=14924137380 Edited October 7, 2010 by 7evin
7evin
So is the Delorean's fusion reactor not working;) Rear wheel bearing went out on day 4, so we towed him for 2 days of the event until his parts arrived then I fixed it for him.... If you ever get a chance to work on a Delorean ..... Don't.... LOL Paul Nigh is a super nice guy and I did not have the heart to leave him behind, so we rented a trailer from U-haul and kept him in the game. I had no idea the truck could do what it does... The sheriff and the corner worker at Heartland park made this comment. "Man you scared the shit out of me when I saw you coming into that turn, I do not know if your knuckles were white , but mine were white for you. You looked way too fast for those corners, I just knew you were going to crash. But you hunkered that big beast down slid all 3 wheels into that 1st turn and torn through there with black smoke rolling out of one side and white smoke coming off the inside rear tire. (me 3 wheels? ) Yes, because you had about an inch of air under the front inside tire, we thought we were seeing things until you did it 2 more times. In the 23 years I have been on the force I have never seen anything like it. " Corner worker " Man you are crazy" Me .. I hear that more and more now days...
