Should we attend LOG 31 or aim for a National USA7s Meet in 2011?

Speaking of brand confusion:Yesterday I got a nice little trophy in the mail from LOG 30 announcing that I was the "Fastest 7" at the LOG auto-X. Really? Faster than Michael D, Norm Beaver and Scot in their souped up Caterhams?

 

Or fastest "Lotus 7" (Which,as a Caterham 7, I was clearly not)?

 

As other LOG attendees know (How can they forget when I keep reminding them:)) my cat took the "coveted" 3rd place in the LOG contest for prettiest Caterham. So one component of LOG recognized Caterhams as separate from the actual Lotus 7.

 

I suspect that the auto-x folks assumed my Lotus badged Caterham was a Lotus (who can really tell?) and I snuck off with someone else's award(:.

 

Box, any idea if my rather pathetic showing in the auto-x was actually fastest for all 7's, Caterhams included?

Mike, as for that "prettiest Caterham award" Did you notice the large group of Tony V supporters on his picture site? Obvioulsy they stuffed the ballot box, because that car was The Rattiest Looking 7 there.:rant: IMHO Your's was definately one of the nicest looking there.

 

Maybe they meant you were the fastest on the Trackday?:cooldude:

Perhaps so, but it was Tony's ancient and pretty scuzzy looking early 90's Cat that won, followed by a Seven from Rocky River Ohio, then mine. I voted for the Seven that Tony built for his dying friend. It was listed under Tony's son's name, tho, and like all the other very pretty Cats there, didn't win. Tony is a long time LOG attendee and LOONY member and I am sure got some votes as a familiar name.

Norm B's 2nd and last run was 27.5. Mike D's 2nd run was his fastest @ 29.4. Scott had a 28.5 on his final run in Mike's 7. DAnny never took his 7 off the trailer. The Lotus 7 series 2 w/ the AP markings ran a 31.1. Dean is marked w/ a few 34 second runs after his initial 36.

Mooney mooney Mooney. 3 off courses:toetap05: with the extra ballast u did find a 30.3.

The MeOtter found a clean 31.5 finally. I ran a 32.3 in the Exige that i broke teh battery tie down in that died and coasted the last couple gates.:smash:

 

Chuck Sieber's EMod Espirit was at a 28.3 on its 3rd and final run.

 

A couple of Elises got into low 30.x. The fastest was a 30 flat.

 

The Yellow Europe pulled a 30.6. The fastest Exige was a 31.4, there weren't many, and the rest were not fast.

concours first place was the seven from rocky river, ohio . that's what the trophy we took home with us said . it is a correctly badged caterham S3 with SVT engine built in 2006. all the cars looked great , my favorites , the yellow with the rover engine and the yellow SV . as for the snobs & whiners , they are everywhere, deal with it !!

I had offered to buy a drink for any driver of a Lotus built 7 (I figured that any moder 7 was guaranteed to run faster and didn't want to break the bank) that turned in a faster time than I did. Most did run faster but nobody bothered to collect their reward. Oh well.

 

I was very impressed with the times I turned. I expected to be much slower (relatively) than I was. I can't give the credit to my driving, my tires (135x15) or the 1,000 cc BMC-A engine. It has to be due to the merits of the basic design. If I lost 50 lbs the times would have been better.

I confess I was amazed at your times. You were running on wagon wheel tires and, unless you are an experienced auto-X-er, you were feeling your way around the course, rather than storming around it like Norm Beaver, et al. What year is your 7?

I think you got the award for your 4th run - you know - the one where you got lost, did a single pirouette and then flounced off - all in 22 seconds! :D

 

 

 

Anyway, amongst all these awards people are talking about, I still think I shared a win for the most valuable award on offer. The Blonde Beaver Award for Best Looking Candidate Looking to Buy a Seven was jointly awarded to Tom and me for unselfishly volunteering our cars for ...um...a trial fitting! No trophy given but my smile was a mile wide! :D

In the latest issue of reMARQUE (The Lotus Ltd magazine Sept-Oct 2010, I receive it much later than most. The letter carriers must pass it around for a week or two) has an article "Start Your Seven" by Dave Kirk that talks about the joys of push starting a Birkin in the winter in Montana. It even includes two pictures displaying the Birkin badge and is complimented by and ad from Texas Motor Works purveyor of Birkins.
