As for the Caterham 6-speed transmission, conventional wisdom in UK is that it is good for 250 hp (and commensurate torque), but not much more.

Interesting. When I was at Caterham UK in November, they said it had been tested up to 350hp FWHP with no issues. It has been pretty reliable in the UK CSR racing series with no issues emerging.

I meant to ask -- what rear axle ratio are you going to run? As you know. the Caterham 6-speed is direct 1:1 in 6th, so the engine will be spinning pretty lively for road cruising.

Strangely enough I know this from my recent specification discussions with Ben at Caterham US - I was told Karl has a 3.62 diff.

Mike, you are correct on the diff ratio. It is the standard for the Superlight. Now what was that you said about 350 HP and where can I get it?

:jester: My lips are sealed. Your lovely wife will beat me up if I say any more!

Mike, she won't beat you up as long as you tell her that last 50 hp is just a wee bit more money... a bargain really compared to the fun she'll have watching me drive it!

Hmmm . . . I'm interested in the engine, but I've already got all of the ancilliaries on the way (including the dry sump). I suspect it would be a pain for you to part it out.

The good news is that there are 6 Caterhams being built in March and destined for the states - hopefully being delivered in early April (One is mine. Two are going to Jeff Sloan at British Auto - not sure if he already has customers lined up for those. Not sure about the other three. Someone will want this engine. You might call Jeff to see if he's interested in it.

Why not just order another kit for your wife and drop the motor in there? : )

I've had several questions on the price. I'd be willing to let the engine go for $5,000 (I'd guess $300-400 depending on your location) plus shipping. If you don't need the ECU, Flywheel, Clutch you could always sell them to help fund your project, but I would think most folks would like the complete setup. Please see my intial listing for the specifics of what is included.

Cosworth tells me at LEAST 6-8 weeks before the new motor is done so we have a little time to work with here.

This is a great engine, professionally setup by Ben at Caterham USA and fully ready to go.

Have you let Ben know the engine is for sale? He may have a customer for one of the new cars who needs an engine.

I know a many guys say there's no such thing as too much... but I'd like to have 300-320hp. Have a few "honey-dos" before I can save for a turbo or supercharger.

Of course, once you get accustomed to a certain level of power you may crave more. I'd like to find out.

The Cosworth is in the works. Delivery is in 6-8 weeks. Is 14:1 and 300 hp too much or what!

Too much horsepower is just about right. :D

that sounds like "torque it until it breaks, then back it off a half-turn" LOL

I've never seen anything like that.... reading some of the costs ($31 grand for the crank), I guess having to replace the piston rods every 120 hours is acceptable.

This is definately one of those "money is no object" type of businesses.

31K for just the crank? I feel so much better about the price of the cosworth motor now... perhaps I will get that sequential gearbox after all

Glad I could help you out with that decision. :D

Any one tried the Sadev sequential?

Do you mean like this one? (I do not have one of these)

Sean, that is exactly what I am talking about. I have read they are a bit more civilized than the Quaife, but can noisy in neutral.
