LS1 Stalker Article

...I have no doubt your humongous v8 500hp can do all the tricks you mentioned.

I can beef up my 4 cylinder to produce 500hp if I want to. I'm questioning how you define a seven car. Just like you called it "supercar". My clone seven is very fast too but far from being a supercar. Fast is not the only attribute to call it a supercar.

Owning a real 7 or a clone 7 must be "within" the concept of 7.

Anything more than the concept of Collin Chapman, I will call mine a midget or outlaw car or something else......just my opinion, others might have an opposite view .

It is going to be difficult to put so many varieties of any paticular car design into one definition.

Would you consider a Stalker with a 100 hp 4 cylinder a 7 ? Is a Stalker or any other LSIS with a 400hp 4 cyl. a 7?

I would think most people would consider Johns car a supercar if you looked at just the performance specs(0-60, 1/4, braking distance, lap times, etc). It would bet the cars that most people consider supercars would lag behind Johns in all ,but top speed and creature comfort items (AC, Radio, top, Italian stitched leather interior). Maybe if your car had 500hp you would consider it a supercar too?

I not so sure that Colin would be so upset with the route alot of compays are heading. What would Colin do today if he had our technology? Do you still think he would use a 100hp 4 cyl? I think he used what was available back in the day. I think he would go with a 500hp 1700 lb car over a 100hp 1000lb car. As long as it is properly done I think he would lean towards Johns route.

All the advance technology today and

If Collin is alive today, do you think he will approve the proposed 500hp by Lotus CEO (Dany Bahar) that weight as much as Lamborghini & Ferrari?

I drove and owned a real Lotus since the 70's, this questions been asked many times before. You will be surprised most Lotus enthusiast's priority still the weight over humongous horsepower.

Big horsepower is with cost...can't get two things at the same time.

This seven arguiment is a personal choice. We are all cloning his ideas and engineering. I will stay "within" the framework of a seven. No one will stop you build a seven over the 7 framework or concept....you can put a rocket if you want and fool me it's a 7.

Things are so different from the 60s, when you had to sacrifice weight for horsepower. V8s are all aluminum now... 4 cylinders can make ungodly HP... It's really driver preference rather than handling issues nowadays.

He blew a rubber expansion plug that was in an unused port in the cooling system. (my bad) This dumped the antifreez onto the back tires resulting in the off track. Luckily it happened on the rattelsnake or he could have cooked the engine. We weren't sure the engine wasn't hurt til we got it back home. It's ok..still runs like a bat outa hell. Love those junk yard parts.

True, tho I suspect this Stalker has a supercharged 6? Sure doesn't sound like a V8.

Whatever it is, it definitely managed to dog the uber Stalker the whole time, in spite of giving up some straight line speed. And together they were much faster than the other se7ens (Stalkers?) on the track with them.

Kitcat

You are correct Joe's car is a 3800sc L32 Stalker and is a Hoot to drive. The stock v6sc is very fast and importantly for me, reliable(unless i do something stupid..rubberplug instead of freeze plug) but until we got it on a track with other sevens, we had no idea how fast it was. The thing handles like a dream but, as always, when you get used to it .......it needs more H.P....It's a mental illness that i think many guys have.

Last night I was telling my wife about HP that is going into the Stalkers these days (ours is the 3.8 SC). She said casually, "So if I blow up this engine (she autocrosses with me), can we get one of those LS things to replace it?" I teared up just a bit.....
