Kitcat
Iain. I am lookin to sell a Caterham, tho a '97, not a '98. I dont know of any difference between the 2 years, tho. It's an X-flow 1700cc, 5 sp, Dedion, full weather gear, heater, etc. And I am in Cincy. If nothing else, I'd be happy to take you for a spin. Am leaving for a week's vacation Sat, and it needs a bit of upkeep (Just back from Mid-Ohio). Mike

Kitcat
Iain: I just resurrected the old for-sale post for this car("Sold-1997 Dedion"). It was the first car ever sold on this Forum). When I get back from vacation (where I may not have internet access), I will post some more photos. The car has 29K miles and has been used mostly for blats and as a summer daily driver, tho track days have been an ever increasing focus. I just got back from Mid-Ohio where it was in the top 1/2 of the intermediate group. Its 106 mph top speed was a huge limitation on such a big track. The smaller/tighter the track, the better it does (I "owned"Waterford Hills, for instance:)). Mike Edited August 12, 2011 by Kitcat

(I think I've spotted you in the past and can't imagine that there's more that 1 seven in Cincy!) Lets plan to connect when you get back from vacation. Kitcat
Iain: Yes, the car is often in the ground level pkg lot at 9th/Main. Hard not to notice it:). I am asking $24.5K (but will take $22.5K). I will send you a list of the extensive improvements/maintenance over the last 4 years when I get back. I can say it is in much better condition than when I bought it (except for road rash on paint). Mike Edited August 12, 2011 by Kitcat

BernieN
Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a 98-current Caterham. Prefer DeDion suspension & Full screen. Thanks! Hi. I have a 1989 caterham 7 for sale. It has a cortina crossflow 1.6 liter ford engine. It is stock as received in the crate with a little over 2000 miles on it. This chassis can be upgraded to the newer features of the present caterhams. Call me at (408) 867-0159 for pics and further details. rikker
Has Caterham changed the frame much over the years?
Kitcat
The "long-cockpit" car was introduced in '96 ( I think), foot wells enlarged in '94, all providing a bit of extra leg/foot room. Chassis was stiffened in '96 and suspension was revised. I have driven both short and long cockpit versions, and long cockpit is definitely roomier and nicer for drivers over 5'9'. Dedion susp became an option in '85, 5sp trans in '86. In '88 disc brakes on all 4 wheels became standard. Biggest change over last 15 years has been ever more powerful engines. MoBoost
Actually, long cockpits were available back in 1985 when I bought my car! It makes a big difference!
rikker
So are all 96 and on S3 cars long and wide cockpit ?
yellowss7
No, the wide or SV Caterhams are a whole different beast. They didn't come into being until after 2000. Maybe even later. Series 3 or the normal width 7 is still produced even today and I believe the SV is an option. Except for on the CSR which is a wide body only. Kitcat
My S3 measures 16" width for driver, ditto passenger. So, definitely not a wide body, tho does have the extra length. Didn't know long cockpit was an option so far back.
