rnr
Incidentally the GGLC will be having our regular monthly meeting in Palo Alto on the friday before the the historics - all Se7en owners are of course welcome to attend. We will also have our usual breakfast meet in Salinas before heading to the event itself. I will post info as times and locations get decided. scannon
Does anyone happen to be checked into the Borg Motel in Pacific Grove this evening getting their advance reservations for the Classics week? If so can you get me some advance reservations? Call me at 303-661-9914. I checked with the motel and it is already half filled as they allow people checked in today first shot at the Classics week. rnr
The GGLC has just started taking orders for 2012 tickets and corral passes. Deadline for orders is June 25 http://www.gglotus.org/ggshop/ggcorral.htm
JohnCh
Giving this a bump for those who have been considering joining up for the tour portion of the trip. Some of the hotels book up really early for August, so if you think you may join for any of the legs, please PM me for details. It’s best to make your reservations now to cover your bases and then cancel them later if you decide not to go. Thanks, John
slomove
Just bought tickets for Saturday. We will probably stay Friday night in Santa Cruz on our way back home from a short NorCal tour (TBD). Is anybody there with a tin-top? We will have our luggage with us and don't want to leave it out open in the corral.
JohnCh
Gert, any chance we can convince you to reverse your itinerary and join us for a couple of days in NorCal after the races? Pierats is also thinking about coming along for part of that trip, so we'd have about half the group from PNW2007. -John
slomove
Hello John, I tried to make this work and would love to do this. But Rosie must be back Monday. She is in charge of the high school library and this is the week of hell with 7000 text books to be checked out. So, given her schedule and my remaining PTO I don't have a choice. JohnCh
I suppose convincing the school district to delay the start of school by a week is out of the question? :jester: Let me know if you want the route we're taking. I have it in Streets & Trips and can export it as a .gpx file. -John
slomove
Thanks John, that would be interesting. We did however decide on a route and booked the hotels already. So there may be limited wiggle room for changes. Anyway, here is our plan: Date Day Route Miles 08/11/12 Sat Home-Visalia 286 (Lake Isabella, Kern River, Sequoia NF) 08/12/12 Sun Visalia-Lee Vining 295 (Kings Canyon NP, Yosemite NP, Tioga Pass) 08/13/12 Mon Lee Vining-Oroville 296 (Mono Lake, Sonora Pass, Gold Country/Hwy49) 08/14/12 Tue Oroville-Alturas 244 (Northern Sierra, High Desert) 08/15/12 Wed Alturas-Grants Pass 234 (Goose Lake, Klamath Lake, Rogue River) 08/16/12 Thu Grants Pass-FortBragg 332 (Hwy199, back roads to Hwy96, Redwoods, best part of Hwy1) 08/17/12 Fri Fort Bragg-Santa Cruz 249 (Hwy 1) 08/18/12 Sat Santa Cruz-LagunaSeca-Greenfield 97 (Historic Races) 08/19/12 Sun Greenfield-Home
JohnCh
Looks like a fun trip with virtually no overlap with our route. An exception, and where I suggest you consider making an alteration, is from Fort Bragg to Santa Cruz. Pierats turned us on to some outstanding (really, really outstanding) roads between Santa Cruz and CA-35, that avoid Hwy 17: http://binged.it/KezGch -John
jimrankin
You can take 92 east from Half Moon Bay to Skyline South and then use your GPS to see where you want to hook up with the other back roads to Santa Cruz or Highway 1. Only one note. Try to do any of these roads shown during the weekdays as the pressure on them from both cars and, even slower, bicycles on the weekends make them pretty, but frustrating. slomove
Thanks John and Jim, it will be a Friday, so I hope traffic is not too bad and the route suggestion looks good.
JohnCh
Reviving an old thread given Monterey weekend is less than 2 weeks away. Just three of us doing the tour afterwards, but who else is planning on attending the weekend festivities? It would be nice to get together at the track like we did in 2010. Looking at this thread, it appears we have: Mondo Slomove Scannon RNR Pierats Hudson Anyone else? RNR, do you have details yet on the GGLC breakfast in Salinas? -John
Sean
I plan to attend the RMMR on Saturday. Not sure about attending the breakfast, but found the breakfast info on the GGLC site, which reads, in part: GGLC Breakfast & Caravan to Laguna Meet at IHOP at 7:15 am located at 1075 N Davis Rd, Salinas for breakfast. After breakfast the group will caravan to the GGLC/Lotus Corral at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. Please RSVP by emailing: (see site for RSVP e-mail address)
rnr
Anyone else? RNR, do you have details yet on the GGLC breakfast in Salinas? Joel who hosts the event will be confirming the plans this weekend and I'll post them on this thread. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to the Historics this year as something has come up. BTW I will be hosting the monthly GGLC members meeting at my house in Daly City on the 17th and all USA7'ers are of course welcome. Please PM me for the address. Also the Indycar series has a test day in Infineon on the 17th which is free to the public if you are interested. Jim Rankin and I will likely be there though not in our sevens. scannon
I'm going to be there but I am not bringing my Se7en. I'm flying in on the 14th and renting a car.
JohnCh
RNR, sorry to hear we won't see you this time around. Lucky Dawg, the WA legs of the tour are below: 8/23 Crescent, OR to Morton, WA 8/24 Morton to Winthrop 8/25 Winthrop to Sammamish (half day) Let me know if you're interested in joining at some point. Skip, so are you saying that when you wrote earlier I could drive your car in Monterey if I asked nicely, you were referring to your rental car and not the Caterham? -John

You have to come to Colorado to drive the Caterham.
lucky dawg
Lucky Dawg, the WA legs of the tour are below ... Let me know if you're interested in joining at some point. The crates with my CSR should finally arrive next week (only four months late), so its doubtful that it will be drivable by the time you come through. I'm hoping to see the cars and meet you guys when you get to Sammamish. Please keep me posted on your progress.
