Had a $150 fine from the NJ DMV last week as I had accumulated 6 points from a couple of speeding tickets. Police fines paid on time but according to the DMV website, they levy a fine for three years until the points are reduced.

Anyone had experience of this? Yet another 'tax' in NJ! :banghead:

Well thats a new tax to help pay for, and support the future F1 race.

Come on, Just be a team player ..... LOL

Welcome to NJ! Land of the brave, free and excessively taxed!

I have never heard of this type of fine before but it does not surprise me. Was the fine levied on the license or the car? Wait until insurance renewal time!

Like I don't pay enough tax and insurance already! Levied on me as obviously I am a risk having exceeded the speed limit by a few mph!

Same way in Texas if you get over 6 points in three years you have to pay a "surcharge" it's about the same 150.00 and goes up from there depending on how many points you have.

Right on, Geico raised my insurance premium from 1500 to 4k by the end of last year. When I called to find out why, they told me I had 2 traffic infractions accumulated in 08 and 10. Even though I paid the extra $ to the court so there would not be any points assessed. One was speeding, the other unsafe driving. I consider myself a good driver, haven't had any accidents in 30 years, but hey, go 80 on the Palisade pkwy, or pass a woman in an SUV who is texting and studying the windows in the shopping mall, they will get you.

As a driver in NJ you get sc...ed, don't even talk about the recent toll hikes

Something just doesn't sound legal about being fined for being fined.

Oooohhh! 86Sebring has just reminded me on the colonoscopy I recently got for using the NJ Turnpike as tolls doubled. And lets not talk about the $12 cash tolls for the Holland & Lincoln tunnels, George Washington Bridge or $13 for the Verrazanzo bridge.

OK. Maybe we should move off this topic to something calmer. I can see too much frustration!

It will only get worse until the whole pile of shit collapses under its own weight. Government is a tumor that has become self aware and has grown its own arms and legs. They wont do work though. They just grab stuff out of your own hands or push you around... Good luck with your life! Someone-- Get a hack saw.

Just be glad you weren't towing your se7en in a trailer. All of the bridge and turnpike fees are approx triple.

And the Google says the "surcharge" (such an innocent sounding name) is now $250 for 3 years following the speeding tkt-even the 1st one.

I now believe in the theory of always getting a lawyer for moving infractions. I think you pay the same or more money to the lawyer, court, political entity but you can generally get a non-moving violation, no points so no insurance jump.

You got to pay the man but you also have to play the game.

The insurance might still come after you with a hefty premium increase, despite having gotten a lawyer and got away without points.

Best to follow the (traffic-) herd and get the best radar detector available hmm
