Caterham 7

Hi,

I am considering a Caterham 7 that was a race car and is missing a few parts. My thought is to put a BDA that I have in it with Ford T9 transmission.

Some of the things that are missing are Seats, Windscreen, Wheels, Tires, Hood, seat belts and a few other minor parts.

Rather than pay to import some seats from Caterham to Southern California I thought I might try to find a seat that work in the 7 here in the US. Can anyone speak from experience as to what will fit and work etc. I think I'll need to get the windscreen from Caterham, wheels - I'd like some minilites or similar, Seatbelts - probably Willans or Sabelt, what would be a good tire to use for fast road and occasional Track day use?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Ian

Hi Ian;

I have Toyo RA-1s, 205-70x13 on my '62. I like them a lot. I only have about 300 miles and no track days yet. They have proven to be very effective so far for fast road use.

Regards,

Ron

My friends swore by CR500s on 6" front and 8" rear 13" anthracite wheels. I ordered them, put them on, went for a drive and couldn't stop smiling. First track day with them on Saturday but apparently they almost stick like slicks...

At my last track day I ran new CR500 195's all around and the grip was good, not great. Then I swapped in an old set of Toyo RA1 205's, in the back only, and the grip was identical, the car stayed neutral & balanced.

Yep - neutral and balanced all the way up to when you went off the circuit:

Being sensible for a moment - I will also say the CR500s are good. I have to use them on my car (nothing else in my size wheels) and luckily they work well. I like how they communicate grip levels well and progressively let go when you exceed their limits.
