Sevens on snow

Apparently the Brit magazine EVO will feature an article on Caterhams for winter driving in Issue 168 (not available on US newsstands for a couple of months, probably). The blurb says,

____

Seven in the snow

You can put winter tyres on just about anything now, Caterhams included. Henry Catchpole deliberately heads for some snowy European mountains…

Should be interesting..... up here, we've got more than three feet of snow on the level right now, and the snowbanks between cleared sidewalks and cleared streets are taller than an SUV.

While winter tires might help a Seven, such a car stands to be squashed at every T-intersection, because visibility is so poor for (and from) any car that is not at least 4 1/2 feet tall.

I hate to ask a stupid question but how does the heater in the Seven work in Alaska ? It may not make any difference if, as you say, you'll get squashed at the first intersection. Personally, I think Sevens are better in Florida, where I am, and Hummers are better in Alaska.

That was my attempt to cross Breckenridge Mountain Road (southern Sierra Nevada) in April 2010. Was not too bad until the snow got about 3-4 inches deep with the snow drift in the background. It took some pushing and cursing of my wife to get us out of it. With chains we probably could have done it but the Toyo T1R are just not cut out to be snow tires

But no collision risk, I suppose we were the only ones crazy enough to drive this road at the time. Temperature was above freezing, no heater needed.

Klasik-69,

The Seven heater works pretty well, even wit the top down. The warm air flows upward, keeping your hands warm on the wheel (your upper body needs some other way to keep warm, however).

Here's what we use in Alaska to pull the Hummers out of the ditches:

With the Iditarod starting this weekend, you should be able to sub runners for wheels, hook up a team of huskies, and blend right in on the trail. Just stand up in the trunk and leave the hood off to add to the illusion. No need to worry about Hummers (though the Unimog is pretty cool).

Re the EVO clip -- too dicey for me, on public roads with oncoming traffic. But he does do a nice job in keeping the Seven out of the ditches.

I certainly would not risk my own car under conditions like these (perhaps, when I was younger.....).

A 7-ish car (unsure of the type?) in some snow:
