yellowss7
The two tracks at NJMP are alot of fun, but no where as much fun as the comraderie at dinner. Croc might even Ride the bronco again!!!:jester: The more the merrier. Our goal this year is 15 Sevens. Heck we may even talk Boxologist into joining in. That alone would be worth the trip up. :jester: Karl will probably have about 1000 HP in his Caterham by then too. Tom
blubarisax
Tom, I don't think 1,000 NA HP is in the cards for me, but I can always have fun trying. Croc on the bronco is well worth the trip. I enjoy the expert advice; car setup, driving, tires and video. Last year I got some invaluable diet coaching (took off 100# and now fit in the Tillett seats) from Kitkat as he ate a full rack of ribs. MichaelD
Speaking of tires... I just found this store for track day tires. http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT Basically they offer used qualifying tires with 70% tread or more left. Think abput $50 or so per tire. I just bought four 21.5 x 13s for $119 delivered they look to be in great shape. Soft rubber with 75-80% tread remaining. Has anyone else used them? Kitcat
Karl: But those were the "low fat" ribs I was eating:)! I gotta say, Croc on the bronco was a highpoint. As I have previouly noted, he got the good sport award for that one. Klassik-Retirement guilt? Talk to Tom (YellowSS), I think he retired in his teens and seems pretty much guilt free:). Klasik-69
Klassik-Retirement guilt? Talk to Tom (YellowSS), I think he retired in his teens and seems pretty much guilt free:). Yeah, my wife gets on my case about it. So Tom is a slacker ????? Likely not, probably a very smart over achiever. Some people need 45 years to get something done, some only need a couple of years. The smart ones only need the lesser amount. Evidently, I'm not in that group. So on the annual 7 get together at NJMP, is this a formal thing or is just you guys started going there and it evolved ? I see you get aobut 15 cars. Is that enough to rent the track or do you attend with others and share the facility ? Lastly, when will you have the date nailed down. I have the SCCA hill climb at the Tail of the Dragon on June 21-23.
SkinnyG
Speaking of tires... I just found this store for track day tires. http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT.... Has anyone else used them? I have! I bought a set of 20.5x7x13's from him a few years back. No idea how much use they had. They were "as described", and the transaction was fine. I'd do it again. I soaked them with 50% Xylene and 50% Toluene to put some life back in them. Certainly cheap, though, compared to buying slicks new.
yellowss7
I'm definately a Slacker. :cooldude: I ran with a group called SCDA (sports car drivers assoc) at one of their trackdays at NJMP. Well run, Safety minded and The next year i thru the Idea up on this board and Croc, Blubarisa,Kitcat, MichaelD. Sabbot, Scott L, Dermot, S1steve, and Jbvette showed up As well as Dave, another S1 owner and our pres. Al Navarro made an apperance. Last year was the second annual a couple more additions, With Steve (bball) driving in from St.Louis, and Kitcat from Cincy, and poor Jim, who never had done any track or perfomance driving drove in from State College Pa. (I think Jim was overwhelmed by the experience to say the least. Croc, Blubarisax, JBH and I have since become members at the track and have done a few other days where we have brought a few "guests" on track with us. We run in the same run group and have a heck of alot of fun, playing with the corvettes, Porkers, and other trackday usuals. Croc will have the dates availble in the very near future. Like I said the ontrack activity is alot of fun, but the comraderie in the paddock, and at dinner is just a HOOT! We have kicked around the idea of expanding the activities to include non driving options for those who would like to join in on the fun but don't want to put their cars on track. (Taber, Box, :jester:) There are alot of nice roads, Atlantic City is only 40 miles away as are the other Beaches, there are also quite a few local wineries, museams etc, that would provide opportuinities for those not into trackdays. However, that will require another person to step up and coordinate. AL, Mazda??? If your schedule permits and your butt can take the drive, I can promise you will enjoy yourself. Klasik-69
I threw up the idea of going up to NJ to my wife & didn't hear any objection. It doesn't look like you have anyone south of the Mason Dixon line in the group. Would you allow a southerner in your group ? Also, just checking, is this a "boys" only group outing or do wives/girl friends join in ?
Klasik-69
On the EBay tire dealer, those are cheap prices if the casings are still in pretty good shape. I just bought a set of Hoosier bias racing slicks for the 13" wheels, cost was $978 with shipping. The new SM 205-50 R 15 were $168 + freight last year. Of course, there is a risk with these blowing up but it's a slim one
Croc
So Tom is a slacker ????? Of course....a failed ex-HR flunkey and those of us in corporate life know how bad they are! I have never seen a good HR person in any of my corporations yet! Hi Tom :seeya::rofl: Would you allow a southerner in your group ? Also, just checking, is this a "boys" only group outing or do wives/girl friends join in ? LOL - I am more of a southerner than you are! I was born south of the equator! You would be more than welcome. So far it has mostly been guys turning up mainly because none of us have any enlightened chicks as partners, except for Jeff whose better half Mary is turning out to be faster on track than most of us. If your better half wants to come along then I think we could easily make some arrangements Just to convince you further here is the photo thread from 2012 http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7738 Edited February 11, 2013 by Croc
JBH
Mary and I will be there... definitely not boys only. Is your wife interested in driving or riding? Half the fun is at the end of the day when we gather for drinks, dinner and dancing. LOL...Tom is not a slacker in any context of the word. He's just modest. Kitcat
Yes, Jeff's wife could fairly be described as a "car guy" and/or "track junkie".. She comes in off the track just as pumped up as any of us and talking all about apexes and braking points! Jeff: Dancing? Where was that???? Klassic-Tom actually is an amazingly successful guy who invested much time and $ in a comany which was so successful that he was able to cash out at a relatively young age: sort of the dot.com dream, without the dot.com. Have you done Tail of the Dragon before? If so, what was your impression? It makes me nervous to see all that Armco and all those trees, so close to the "track". As you may know, many of us participated at the USA7s.com 50th year birthday celebration of the Lotus 7 at the Tail of the Dragon, back in 2007 (Jeez time is flyin by). For recreational driving, it was fantastic.
MichaelD
My new USED slicks seem to have at least 70% to 80% tread left and they are plenty soft. Monday they will be mounted & ballanced then be put go on the car. Once that is done the car will be aligned and corner weighted and aligned again. With good weather I will be at SCCA, Summit Point Time Trials early in March.

She has her own 2007 Corvette convertible but doesn't like to go fast. She lets me race but doesn't attend any of the events because it makes her nervous to see me "trying to kill myself". I can't complain, she lets me buy whatever I want....cars, race gear, etc. However, I make sure she is well taken care of and when it comes to things like her birthday, anniversaries, or Valentine's Day (today), I don't forget and I make sure she is well treated. As you may know, many of us participated at the USA7s.com 50th year birthday celebration of the Lotus 7 at the Tail of the Dragon, back in 2007 (Jeez time is flyin by). For recreational driving, it was fantastic. I already figured Tom was no slacker, and guys who retire early do so because they're ahead of the curve, not behind it. Although with the current administration, being wealthy has taken on a negative term, I still think the rich are the ones we need to emulate, and not the homeless. Tail of the Dragon: To be honest, I was too chicken to run it last year with the 7 since I didn't have enough seat time in the car to feel confident. I'm running it this year. I have driven the route in my Z06 and it's a handful on this kind of run coming from sunny to shady road areas, wet and dry, curves coming up faster than anticipated and not much room for error. I'm more confident in the Z06 since Ive got over 6000 miles of track time with it and anticipate its quirky nature. The 7 handles better and should inspire more confidence. I don't question the car, I question the driver (me). This year, compared to last year, I'm running the bias ply race slicks on the 13" rims. Jeff @ Hoosier recommended using the bias ply vs. the radials since the car's weight is so minor. I haven't run with them yet, that will be at Talladega GPR in April so perhaps you guys know more about them than I do now. Keep in mind this is only the second year of having this wonderful car and I'm learning every time I go out. I don't think I'm any where near the car's limit, but I may be approaching mine, the weakest link.
