Can I just say for the record that the Bugatti Veyron did not catch me :p

I could see him across the track as I was in Turn 10 he was coming out of Turn 6 and the distance stayed fairly constant. For all the 1000hp he was jaw droppingly quick in a straight line - he went past Tom in the above video at 160mph but then tippy-toed around corners.

The bit that just clinched it for me that the owner is a true and worthy car nut - he did not put any blue painters tape over the body to mask it ahead of the track session - :hurray:

Some still pics of the car in the pits:

And in the pic below Tom is standing at left agape at another cute toy - a Formula Mazda or a Formula Ford Ranger as I called it and really badly upset the owner in the bar that night. He was even more outraged when I said I had a similar engine in my Caterham ....oops....not my most tactful moment!

It was a memorable day with lots to talk about at night.

I'll let Tom explain his new strategy for getting a GT3 to let him pass

BTW: the Ford GT also belongs to the Veyron owner as does a Porsche GT2 RS that is off camera.

Great vids! What kind of camera are you using, the picture and sound are fantastic.

Scott

Tom's (Yellowss7) is using a Drift HD with an external mic run way way up under the dash. Video was set at 720HD 60fps.

Its amazing how long it has taken for a bunch of sevens to sort out decent sound and video on our cars in a track environment. It has been a real trial and error process.

Nice! I think that Miata passed Tom just as fast tho:)!

Yeah, Yeah, I know, I'm slow. But that red miata is a sleeper.

As for my "special GT3 passing manuever" there is a little button on the left side of my dash that I used to get by a certain GT3. :jester:

Though the point by that he gave me seemed to be missing a few fingers. :smilielol5:

All in good fun though.

I always use my horn out on the track! :o:D

Tom was not the only one playing practical jokes out there on track, I got blackflagged for using my hazard lights on track - I was travelling below 45mph (on track) following a glacially slow Porsche in a no-pass zone. My excuse was that using hazards on highway when below 45mph is NJ law! :jester:

The little red Miata can blow the "doors" off my car too - 350-370hp supercharged 2.3L duratec with lots of modifications. The driver is very good too.

Best pit discussion of the day was asking a plastic surgeon all about the breast enhancements and getting all the good facts. Filled in a rain delay beautifully.

One of my track day mantras is: "never underestimate the Miata".

Very wise. Before I got the Avon ZZR's on my car, there was a younger kid in a rather stock Miata with sticky tires that made me work very hard to shake him at the big kart track.

One of the fastest cars I have seen there is a 300+ hp NA Miata with very big turbo and rear wing.

Good to see the Veyron out on track. Running on a road course in one of those is like skiing a slalom course on race DH skis. Now, if you were running at the full Le Mans course, I doubt that any street car could touch him with those two lengthy straights.

Check out this video with a Veyron absolutely destroying an supercharged Exige S down the front straight at Laguna Seca

http://contour.com/stories/an-f430-a-veyron-a-lotus-laguna-seca

The video starts with some 45 sec of bad music and still shots but them moves a shot of the Veyron pulling away from the Exige at the exit of T11. The amazing this is that the Veryon was apparently having heat soak issues all day and wasnt even making full power :D

Nice Vids.

I notice that Tom had to do a Ninja throttle lift so the Bugg could make it past. :jester:

You can see that the Bugg tried so hard that it was close to out braking itself on corner entry. :leaving:

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure He had enough straight to get past me. :jester:

As for his little "wiggle" in turn one, he said basically he just steers and the car applies the brakes, throttle to keep him from spinning.

Not a bad driver either, said he use to race a viper, so he was used to big and heavy cars.
