I like the Glen better too, at least it's within a day's drive of some of us mid-westerners.

Another catch for track day folks is that you have to have a PCA instructor ride with you and sign you off as safe. If, like me, you have no passenger seat, then the ride-along ain't happening.

Is this the excuse I have been looking for to buy a Porsche?

You are correct. And, you will be in the Green Run Group, at least to start. Perhaps if there enough Lotus cars there, PCA would put them in their own run group!

I like the location!

Well, it is a process. Once you are signed off by your local PCA instructor, you'll need to have a discussion with the chief instructor for the chapter. Then, you have to get that chief instructor (or track chairman) to talk to the NNJR (Northern New Jersey Region) track chairman (Drew Karpinski trackchair@nnjr-pca.com) to give you the OK. After that you'll have to do a check out ride your first time with the chapter. All this is not too hard to do, you just have to get people to talk to each other for you.

The NNJR PCA club runs a very tight ship and goes by the book 100%. No shortcuts on safety or following the rules.

"PCA National DE rules do not allow for Lotus 7 cars or replicas, even with the wheels covered. I think most other models are okay, except for convertibles which all need approved roll bars."

I just received this quote from PCA. I will share the entire email once I have their authorization. I informed them at my car had clam shells attached to the car, Full cage and I am an instructor. :-(

I really like the Glen and have done many track days on it in my Lotus Exige S.

Don't want to rain on your parade as I know how much work these things are.....but why wouldn't you consider having the event at NJMP as the track allows 7's and there are plenty of hotels near by for the entire event? Great "central location" for tri state area (as well as all points North & South & West) and fantastic track facilties plus a club house with a bar, private dining, etc. etc. Just saying.......

Hi all,

A lot goes into planning a LOG. The track day is just one part of a successful LOG. For all intensive purposes you cannot rent the Glen unless you rent it every year, so that actually put the idea of renting the Glen out of the realm of reasonable possibility. As far as going to another track, you have to think of things like the Hotel. What are the requirements and guarantees required by the Hotel. What is the FBM (Food and Beverage Minimum) that you have to guarantee to spend. How many rooms. Are you going to be THE big fish at the hotel, or one of the smaller fish among other conventions. And it had to be a place that I could get to within a few hours drive of my house for the planning of the car show, the rallies, the dinners, the reception etc. I would like to say that it as easy as just having to make one or two trips to the site during the months before a LOG, but I bet I will see the Watkins Glen area 10 times before August 2n,3rd,4th.

This is something that my son and I will put in probably 100 or more hours before LOG. V Very tough to do when it is 2 hours from your home, but impossible when you move it 10 hours away. Don't get me wrong, I have always dreamed of doing a LOG with my son, so this just going be one great "deal" for me. But the point I am trying to make is that there is a lot that has to come together. And LOG will be fun even if you don't get to go on the track other then the laps and lunch.

I seriously doubt that. They can sell out their own track days and usually have very full schedules to maximize the amount of time for their groups.

I have a few options I am working on for next year to get all the Lotus group together on track two or three times in 2013. I am also meeting with Robbie from Lotus Cup USA series in January to discuss their plans. I should have some good news for you guys hopefully by February at the latest.

Sounds like we're losing sight of the original post. There's more to this LOG than just the

track event. And if someone is going to have track events in 2013, start a new tread

and tell us alittle about who you are and what you have planned.

While se7ens on the track at The Glen would be great fun, it's not the end of the world. I plan to be there. The area is beautiful and I don't get to see much of it since I go there just for the track. NASA is having an event there September 27-29 (I'm already registered for the event) and perhaps we can get a few se7ens there to enjoy a track day! NASA loves our cars.

The Glenn is cool track but what makes it cool is the history of auto sport in the area. On any car nut's list should be the Seneca Lodge, driving the road circuit around the town and the International Motor Racing Research Center.

If you don't take your spouse on a tour of the wineries (I like Bully Hill) you will be in trouble.

Aviation enthusiasts should visit: National Soaring Museum, Glenn H. Curtiss Museum and take a sailplane ride at Harris Hill.

Probably the best museum of glass in the country is in nearby Corning.

I agree with Steve. PCA and 7s are a thing of the past. This post is about LOG 2013.

Watkins Glen and the finger lakes is a fantastic place to visit. W.G. is a nice villiage with cute shops and some good restaruants. The country side features great rides on the way to vinyards and more good restaruants. Sign up and have fun.

At LOG 27 there were a Westfield and a Donkervordt as well as a few Caterhams. 15 or 16 Sevens in all. I don't recall if they had a separate classification for clones other than Caterhams. I was told all Seven types were welcome.

At LOG 31 my Caterham was the only Seven present. The closest thing to a Seven was a Lotus Mark VI.

Busa - you get classed with the Caterhams, Birkins, and S1's in "scum of the earth" category at the back of the group car photo. In case you think this is a problem, you would be wrong, as the most stylish, down to earth, biggest bundle of laughs, studly specimens are in this category, like me ;)

At LOG 30 in Gettysburg, despite our rarefied position 50 miles away from the camera, our little group of seven rejects (Caterhams, S1s, and Birkins) was graced with the presence of a tall leggy blonde very fast driving Lotus owner who insisted on checking out our cars as she felt the front row of original-brand Lotus sevens was...you know....a little short in leg, very undersized for her appetite. You would never believe the energy possible from a bunch of middle aged farts (e.g. Kitcat, Yellowss7, etc.), all desperately aiming to get their cars to try on her well...err....shaped spray-on jeans. Needless to say, size does matter and she much preferred my Caterham SV over the very small Caterham S3 and Birkins. As the inaugural winner of the "Snail Trails in Velour" Award at LOG 30, I feel confident saying that a Westfield would do exceptionally well in this contest and a turbo busa engine would tip her over the edge. I for one would be admiring the view of your car as she is bent over its engine bay admiring the quality of your engineering. :conehead:

Even Tony V, our LOG 33 organizer :willy_nilly: was in the same category with his Caterham Sevens at my last LOG (30). So the group is a 'broad church' that accepts the good (me!), the bad (Boxologist) and the ugly (cough...Blubari....cough cough).

If you feel uncomfortable bringing your car and making all those original sevens ashamed with their inadequacies then bring your regular car and just join in the festivities. I for one would make sure you join our USA7s Saturday night dinner table where we make our own fun!

Thanks for the feedback. I asked because when I went with my Westfield many years ago at Waterbury Ct. (I think 1992 or 94, I can't remember). They put me aside somewhere in the corner and separate from Caterham.

I think they might have done some changes as you mentioned. I never show up since. Although I have 3 lotus esprit then & the present. I hated the log after that.

I love my clone 7 than any of my real Lotus cars.

Yup, I can testify to all the above. :D
