Klasik-69 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I detect a little BS here. The car is described as setting the 0-100-0 record as to EVO magazine (What is EVO ?) with 11.44 seconds. My Porsche 930 is documented in Aug 96 Road & Track magazine at just over 10 seconds with a 0-100 time of 7.62 seconds......back in 1996. Imagine how much faster today's cars are than that ?

Pretty sure that EVO is a British car magazine. Seller may be referring to these and several others that are similar: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motoring/ultima-gtr-smashes-0-100-0-world-record http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThread=y&gID=3&fID=0&tID=11724 http://www.stevecarter.com/R500/R500main.htm . Speaking of possible BS, apparently different Porsche testers must get very different results, but Wikipedia shows the fastest stock 930 at 11.6 to 100: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_930 and Supercarworld slightly slower: http://www.supercarworld.com/cgi-bin/showgeneral.cgi?034 Edited March 13, 2014 by lucky dawg
xcarguy Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Another article that may be of interest; it does mention an R500: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motoring/ultima-gtr-smashes-0-100-0-world-record
MoPho Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I met one of the owners of this car recently, her husband had it built and used it a few times before he sadly passed away. It's now owned by his good friend who is trying to sell it. Sounds like it is hardly used and well taken care of. Certainly has all the boxes ticked .
Toyotus 7 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 EVO is indeed a british magazine (and a very good one) focused on new high performance cars.
JohnCh Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Klasik, are you sure about that time? I don't have that issue, but I do have the Sep '99 issue when they next implemented that test (for British cars no less!). They reference the Aug '96 test and listed much slower times. Found this online at their website which shows all the times they've recorded over the years. The top 10 are below. BTW they did test a Superlight R in '99, but it was only 190hp and took 17.4 seconds. And as for EVO, yes, great British magazine. They also have a lot of content, including videos on their website -- it's a great timewaster. -John
chucksva Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Guys, I'm thinking the big difference is US MPH versus European KPH for the speed range? Chuck

Off Road SHO Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I'm always wary of online articles that don't have a date. The ads that they throw at your screen always have dates, but not the articles. I wonder why they do that, or don't do that? Tom
supersportsp Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 My dad has every R&T dating back to the very early '60's. I can verify, but without even looking I can tell you that no stock 993 Turbo or even a 993 Turbo S is going to do 0-100-0 in 11.4 seconds. More like mid 13's to low 14's. A 993 TT would need about 650 hp to have a similar power to weight ratio as this car. And as other's have noted, EVO is a top notch British mag that is also pretty popular here. I am a subscriber via their iPad app and it is pretty awesome.
IDreamOfChapman Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 "My Porsche 930 is documented in Aug 96 Road & Track magazine at just over 10 seconds with a 0-100 time of 7.62 seconds" Did you forget the "-0" part? I bet decelerating from 100 mph is at least 4 seconds...
11Budlite Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Here's a photo from the '96 R&T. The winner was 1989 Porsche Turbo with a modified motor putting out 600hp. The 2nd place car was a stock 993-based 1996 Porsche Turbo. Many cars have gone faster since then!
MoPho Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Can't even recall how many times over the years someone bragged to me that a 427 Cobra does 0-100-0 in 10s? :bs: .
Kitcat Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I gotta express some slight scepticism at that McClaren #. Maybe a new Formula 1 MP4-29 race car (or maybe not). Or did they drive it into a brick wall when it hit 100 mph? Happy to be wrong, but seems totally unbelievable.

Kitcat Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Ahhh, I thot you meant it did 0-100-0 in 4.8. This I believe, after all 900+Hp. Outside of bragging rights, not sure what good it is. When I had a V8 BMW M3 I was constantly frustrated at so much (unusable) street performance capacity. Finally sold it. It was like being married to Scarlett Johansson but only getting lucky 1x a year!

Yup! :iagree: Having driven my share of supercars, I have to say that telling my friends I drove them was more fun than actually driving them. That said, I find the P1 to be pretty friggen cool (wouldn't want to own one though) .

The time I was referring to was established earlier in December 1995 after an article in Excellence magazine which featured Neil Harvey's monster car. In that test, the brakes did not lock up since the driver knew how to modulate the brakes with the Brembos. As you can see, the car's times were bested only by a Ferrari Enzo and a Porsche 911 directly from Germany as a specially prepped car. And that is with the brakes locking up for a skid of 451 feet. This is a good argument for ABS brakes. I don't count the Kawasaki motorcycle. I was trying to see what the new R600 had done but can't find the test results on a 0-100-0. I suspect that car could set some records of its own. Also, would like to see what the new GT-R Nismo is capable of with a claimed power of over 560 HP and brand new driveline software. 0-60 is under 2.9 seconds. It would seem like ultimately the old 0-100-0 claimed 10 second flat time by Carrol Shelby followers of its 427 AC Cobra may well end up being a reality, but with a different car. It would be incredible if it ends up being a Caterham doing it.:driving:
