  1. Sure looks good just sitting there in the parking spot.
  2. I agree and would say it is a clone because it was a series II re-bodied to a series I but that is just my belief. Still a nice looking 7. :driving:
  3. Hello Alex, Seems to be a good idea if it is simple and easy but a lot of people when prepping their car keep a log as to what they do so they have a base point to reset to if necessary. Most racers will help someone to a certain point with setup and what parts work and don't work but will usually only suggest certain setting as a base line and tend to keep their setups to themselves as a competitive edge especially in cars that tend to have class limits as to what can be modified or changed to improve the performance of the vehicle. As an example I have always kept a note book with information such as tire pressures and spring rates and shock settings and roll bar settings for different tracks and courses on each of the cars that I have and have had over the years. I also find that these note books (now electronic) also come in handy for tracking expenses even for my daily drivers and even have an app on my phone which lets me input all sorts of information from parts to settings to what type of fuel and where I have purchased those items for later reference. The app I use on my phone for tracking general things is call ACAR and can be downloaded from http://www.zonewalker.com/acar. It is actually fairly simple and very easy to use and even provides charts and statistics and predictions. The electronic note books that I have are basically an Excel Spread sheet setup for each car that I have and have the basic settings inputted so that when I am tinkering with anything like timing or fuel settings I know where to set it back if I need to because something I tried did not work or did not help in the performance of the vehicle. Main thing one has to remember is to make sure that you input the changes into the spread sheet or on note paper so the setting are know and can be set back to the original or a know working setting when things go wrong or just don't work and yes I have forgotten to write down what I adjusted and have had to go back and set settings back to the last known good setting and due over what I was doing or what adjustments I have made so that I know the settings. Good luck with your project. :driving:
  4. Just a bump.
  5. Have to agree with SkinnyG just changing the oil should not cause that to happen. Sounds like maybe something is lodged in the shifter console. :driving:
  6. Kitcat, Try posting on the California Caterham site as some of the members have spares or know where to get them. Here is the link: http://californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/index.php Hop[e this helps
  7. I am posting this for a friend as I know some of you like to autocross your cars and this is a good one. :driving: Ready Set Go!! Fellow Autocrossers The next PCA/SBR Autocross is set for Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Camarillo Airport with course setup the day before on Friday September 20th starting at approximately 1PM. This Autocross is Open to ALL Cars and Drivers age 18 and older. This will be the final PCA/SBR autocross for 2013 and will be a PCA Zone 8 Points event. NEW!!! AT This Event First Place trophies will be awarded to the fastest Porsche driver in each class, CC01 – CC16, SS01 – SS09 and specialty classes as needed. When a class has 4 or more entries a Second Place trophy will be awarded. To properly classify your Porsche simply visit the PCA Zone 8 website link below and while there you can download the 2013 PCA Zone 8 Rule Book which covers; General Rules, Driving Events, Concours and Rally. All non-Porsche cars are in the X class and will be eligible to compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies based on their fastest times. Now would be a good time to start sorting out your car for the event checking tires, brakes, all fluids, etc. Per PCA Zone 8 rules, page 28 “All car occupants must wear a Snell approved helmet (SA, SAH, K or M), which has the current available Snell rating or the one previous Snell rating. So Snell rated helmets rated in 2005 and 2010 are good to go. We have three (3) PCA certified driving instructors so far for the event and expect a couple more to be available to those desiring their instruction. Currently I do not know if the club has crash helmets for those who need one that met current PCA Zone 8 rules, but I will check and advise via email as we get closer to the event. 8. Try replacing the rotor as they are known to cause some of the issues you have described because they tend to develops very small crack under the contact on the top which tends to open up with use and as long as high rpm is being maintained such as normal engine running above 1000 rpm will still work but once below that say 850 rpm will die such as at a stop sign and will not start until it cools down enough to close back up. You wounded how I know this I have a BMC 1800 in my car and have had similar issues in the past. Hope this helps. PS: Check the coil wire to the cap for any sign of it having been bent and causing an internal crack if it has a carbon core.
  9. OK if you want the STL files for the top and bottom send me an e-mail and I will send you the files. MHKflyer52 at g-mail dot com. :driving:
  10. I have to agree with MightyMike as I also retired from the US Navy and one of the few things that I know realize that I missed out on was our kids growing up during that age (teen years) as they where young adults and in collage when I retired in 1999. Still it is a time that will go by fast for the kids and the most difficult part will be for your wife to adapt to being both parents and still being a mom and not loosing her sanity in the process
  11. I have a SoldWorks model of the key fob if someone wants to make them I can send them an STL file so they can make it out of aluminum. Here is a JPEG file of what it looks like exploded to see the parts. :driving:
  12. Tom's photo of his 7 is one of my favorites of any 7. It is just neat. :driving:
  13. Very nice job, and looks like it was factory.
  14. Vapor lock is due to heat being absorbed into the fuel line in the engine compartment or by heat being absorbed into the carburetors from the manifold causing the fuel to vaporize and evaporate from the fuel bowls or in the fuel line causing a bubble or lack of fuel in the line. Some cars are just prone to this due to the position of the carburetors and where the exhaust manifold is located if they are close to each other such as an MG Midget (1275cc with dual carb's) without the heat shield installed between the carb's and the header (one of the advantages of a cossflow cylinder head puts the carb's away from the exhaust). If your engine was running hot you might want to check to see if your fan was working if you have an electric fan installed. Hope this helps and it sounds like you have just experenced a vapor lock situation with your car. :driving:
  15. Never heard of the fuel being sucked back into the tank due to the gas cap being removed when the tank is near empty. There should have been enough fuel in the floats to start and run the engine for at least 30 seconds or more in my humble belief. Sounds more like heat soak vapor lock or your points are worn or the point gap is off enough that it has to crank till it gets some vacuum to retard the advance to start.
  16. Great photo. But you have to remember he just had it washed and we all know what happens when that happens....:smilielol5:... :driving:
  17. I would use this tool as it is more controllable in my humble belief and it is not that expensive at Harbor Freight and is on sale now for $18.99. High Speed Metal Saw Central Pneumatic - Item#91753 Don't forget to get the blades for it and use the fine tooth bi-metal saw blades. You could also use a Jig saw if you have one already just use tape on the surface of the bonnet / Hood to keep the foot of either saw or nibbler from marring the paint and when you remove the tape make sure you peel it towards the cutout area so as to not lift the fresh cut edge of the existing paint as sometimes the existing paint will lift at the cut face. Hope this helps. :driving:
  18. Real reason........ I just could not resist.......... :driving:
  19. I have to agree and the Dash is done very nicely also. Heck it even has the cruse control from the Miata donor. This should be a very nice clone of a seven from what I see in the photos. :driving:
  20. Morgan I had seen that before but only the first part of it showing you in the direct path and betting feet with only seconds to spare and not the entire clip. I find it just amazing that the camera inside the car kept working and that the driver and nav seemed so calm even when you came back into the view to help them. I have to ask did you get a good shot of the crash. :driving:
  21. This clip shows one of the local roads on a typical holiday weekend and a lot of nice cars to boot. Road is Mulholand Drive on New Years Day 2012. One of the reasons that the cars are not going very fast is the California Highway Patrol is always out on this road besides the number of cars just dose not allow fast spirited driving. My clone 7 is shown several times from different locations on the road and show up the first time around 0:07 time stamp. :driving:
  22. You have a PM Hank from the "GO4KILR"....:smilielol5:..... :driving:
  23. No I am not from Georgia and I am not a grounds keeper but two days have passed and no sign of any new goopher holes. Wife said I should get a license plate that reads "Go4KilR" for my car....:smilielol5:...... :driving:
  24. Oh well another use of my 7 clone besides a car. We have had an issue with moles and gophers this year and they just seem to be immune to the pellets one can purchase from the garden store :banghead: so I figured I would just make them go to sleep and never wake up again. Parked my 7 in the yard next to a fresh hole and put a soda can that I cut the top and bottom out of into the hole and onto the end of the exhaust then started the car and let it idle. Just amazing how quiet my 7 is with this setup....:smilielol5:.... Found where a lot of other vent holes where and covered them or plug them with top soil as can be seen in the top left corner of this photo. Close up of the end of the exhaust pipe and soda can. Hope full that the moles and gophers are now resting in peace and not making more holes in my yard. :driving:
  25. seafarer, Ga. I figured would not be that difficult unlike some other states. Hang in there and keep pressing forward as it is all worth it in the end.
