You will still see all of the little squiglely scratches from the sander if you only use the 400 grit. You will need to go to at least 1000 to have a shiney surface I would think. I sanded my aluminum with an orbital and still have some very fine scratches in the skin that you can see and I stopped at 1500 grit wet dry and still have not coated it so I can use Never-Dull on the aluminum to make it shine. Hope this helps.

I agree 100% on that.

I have been following this thread for a while now and it seems to push some folks buttons for and against having a weapon (Pistols, Rifles, Shotguns, etc.) and seems to be causing a lot of debate which is good as it makes people think which is really good. I also feel it is a person's choice to own a weapon and not something that the government should be trying to control more than what they already do control. The laws are already in place that do limit certain types of weapons from most people like machine guns and fully auto hand guns and missiles and bombs and seem to be working well when people live by the law. It's the people that do not live by the existing laws that are in place that are the problem and not the weapon as the weapon is not the controlling factor but the person who is in possession or the owner of the weapon that is the controlling factor. Yes I do think a mandatory back ground check should be required to purchase a weapon of any kind (pistol, rifle, shotgun, crossbow, cannon, tank or whatever) along with a required training course on the use and care and the proper storage of a weapon before a purchase can be made of any weapon but that is just my belief. Yes I know the criminal or mentally deranged person will always find a way around the law to obtain a weapon if they want one. A wise person once told me that "If someone wants something bad enough and is willing to give up everything to obtain that thing or goal then they are impossible to stop in 99.9% of the time" and I do believe that to be a very true statement and something we all have to except as law abiding persons and from what history has shown us. As for my belief on owning a weapon I do not try to push my beliefs on owning a weapon on anyone beyond suggesting that if I am asked about acquiring a weapon by anyone I always tell the person to get some training first, not only for themselves but their immediate family members, like their wife and even their children so that they know and understand the dangers that a weapon can create and also so they will not hurt themselves or someone else by accident with that weapon, like a wife or child or themselves. I also tell them that they are opening themselves up to a whole different world of responsibility and legality once they acquire a weapon and that it should not be taken lightly as it is a great responsibility. I also think this is the whole key to the problem that we are facing here in the United States. The fact that people today feel they do not have to take responsibility for their actions in most cases even when it comes to ownership or possession of a weapon but again this is my belief. The whole point to my post is that without people being held responsible there is no law or action that will stop the en-saneness that is taking place with the ownership of any weapon, so why do we not focus on training and enforcement of the existing laws that are in place instead of creating more laws that are and will be very hard to enforce by our law enforcement organizations. Yes I do own a number of weapons and I believe I have the right to own them along with the responsibility that comes with owning weapons without the government telling me that I can or can't own a weapon or certain type or the ammunition for a certain type of weapon. But again this is my belief and I respect what others believe and try to not infringe on others or their beliefs but why are we as a country not addressing responsibility and enforcing the existing laws that are in place.

Boy if that rope or cable broke some one would be fixing a lot of something....

Now that driver has some steel....wounder what the senirey would look like in the daytime along that road.

I would also spray some light machine oil into the seams after neutralizing the acid as WestTexasS2K has suggested. This will help seal the aluminum that is etched in the seam area. Lots of sanding and buffing to get the aluminum back to a no-etched condition or you could just paint it or cover it with a carpet.

Well I think I am going to sell my 7 Replica
MHKflyer52 replied to MHKflyer52's topic in Cars For Sale
Well my car is still for sale and I have now reduced the price of my 7 clone / replica / locost / scratch built car as it needs a new home and someone who will have as much fun as I have had with it. I just do not drive it as much as it needs to be driven mainly because I am just to busy with other projects and have to many cars so it just sits. I am asking $12500.00 (Twelve Thousand Five Hundred) US Dollars and I am open to serious offers from the correct person. If you have any questions please contact me and I will try to answer your questions as best as I can. :driving: -
Weber/Red Bull Claim New Pitstop Record at Malaysia - 2.09 Seconds!
MHKflyer52 replied to scannon's topic in Off Topic
I can not even think that fast (2.05 seconds) about changing four tires to anything let alone a race car. The pit crew team must be a blur when they are doing the pit stop. -
slomove I have to agree with you. Face it the education system here in the USA is not very good when you look at what countries are producing the most engineers and doctors as it is not the United States of America which is a real shame. Just my belief and opinion.

****help**** engine fire ****need parts****
MHKflyer52 replied to werthie's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Bummer. Sorry to hear about this. :rofl:One thing can be said though it was one hot engine for a little time. -
If its a track car you most likely will be fixing some body part down the road so I would suggest the fiberglass and as Tom said if at a later time you decide to make it original then replace it at that time with the CF stuff. By the way if the CF stuff is not painted it tends to degrade in sun light and gets brittle and looses some of its strength to my limited knowledge and testing we have done at my work.

Ok just to poke fun at the folks who would be upset by the order of a data base here is a photo of the data plate on my Clone / Replica / Locost / What ever Lotus 7. The data plate says it is an ALDO TS1 Lotus Super 7 so would that put it first on the date list.....LOL.... Here is a photo of the data plate as it is mounted to the firewall. I tell people that its is scratch built by me which it is and when asked why the data plate says what it says I explane that when I made it for the car the Aldo TS1 in the name was my wifes idea and reflects on my heritage as my mother was Italian hence the Aldo reference and the TS1 refers to Testosterone Special which also was the idea of my wife and that I thought it would make a good and funny conversation when someone asks plus it makes it unique as any 7 is which we all know. Manufacture: Rellek Power Master Newberg OR. (which is my last name backwards) Manufacture Number: *OR18V80AEL6478* Chassis Number: ALDO TS1 Title/Titled as: 1963 Lotus 7 Engine: BMC 1800cc (MGB Engine) Transmission: MGB - 4 Speed - Read End: MGB Solid Axle Tube Type - Modified Four Link Panhard - Color: School Bus Yellow an Bare Aluminum :jester:

I agree with WestTexasS2K and think that it is something that should be taught to all people. I know that all the employees at my place of employment are trained and we do a refresher class every other year mainly due to having an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). The American Red Cross has classes and most Fire Departments will also put a class together for a group of people so look into getting the training as you never know who or when you might need to know CPR.

The instructor was actually fairly cool about that I would say and was able to avoid hitting anything even though the person who was driving should have not been driving from seeing that clip......just my belief......

Nice job Gert. Sure did come out smooth and very shiny.

When wet sanding your aluminum skin make sure you add a couple of drops of dish soap to your water to help lubricate and keep the sanding paper from clogging up with particles also the higher you go with the sand paper (2000, 3000, 6000) the higher the reflective shine and the smaller the micro scratches that are left in the surface of the aluminum which means less polishing will be needed in the end.

Hi slomove, Nice job of rebuilding the back end of your car and for showing folks how you beefed up the structure for more safety. I have a couple of photos that show how I addressed the roll-bar support and fuel tank protection on my build by extending the rear roll-bar tubes down to the lower frame and adding another downward support tube to base for added strength which can be seen in the photos below. Just an idea and another solution for anyone interested.

There was a clip on the news last night about the New McLaren P1 being the most expensive so called production car (asking price of $1.5M and limited to 375 units) in the world and that they have already sold the total production run from what the clip said. Sure wish I could live that type of life style to be able to afford these types of cars. JBH I agree that they are the state of the art in engineering and performance and works of art but to me they just don't make much sense unless you look at them as art works which they truly are in my belief but then I would not buy a Picasso to hang on a wall just because I had the money to do so even if I had it but that is me. I still like the looks and would enjoy seeing either auto or painting up close and personal. :driving:

A V12 Hybrid is just nuts in my humble belief but if I had the money to spend on something like that then maybe it would be fun but still you could buy a whole fleet of Leafs or even Teslas with that kind of money and not have to worry about scratching the finish on them and still have a smaller carbon foot print if your into that.

The Ecotec engine can be adapted the same way the Ford Duratec engine is by changing the bellhousing an some other parts. The Ecotec was orginally developed for the Opel line of autos in the late 80's to early 90's to my knowledge and is still used in the GM Cadalic line so they should be avaiable for quite sometime. Just my belief that both engines are a good power plants and can make some serious HP with some additional componets.

Take a look inside Koenigsegg's headquarters and peek at its future tech
MHKflyer52 replied to scannon's topic in Off Topic
That is very interesting. Wounder how long it will take to make it into an auto that will be massed produced.
