  1. Wouldn't the check valve have to stop flow in the same direction as the flow when the engine is running, i.e. tank outlet to pump inlet? Doesn't make sense to me...
  2. I ordered, so we'll see.
  3. That is the exact pan that is catching my car's drips as I type :-). Isn't there a way to keep the oil in the tank from flowing back through the pump when the engine is off?
  4. Brilliant! I'll give it a try. Thanks so much.
  5. I am trying to track down the oil leaks in my new to me dry-sumped BDR. Engine was rebuilt by Quicksilver RacEngines 1000 miles ago. I have wiped everything off, driven it, and then let it sit. There's a drip of oil under the tank, some oil around the sump, and the side-mount oil pump is very oily. I did re-torque the sump pan nuts, although I couldn't reach two of them as the starter is in the way and I didn't feel like taking it off yet. It has leaked maybe a few tablespoons in a few days. The previous owner mentioned a valve that I can get that will prevent the oil from running by gravity from the tank back into the sump when the engine is off. Can anyone point me towards one of those? Of course I am going to try to tighten every hose connection (all threaded fittings). Any advice on particular areas to check or methods to find and eliminate the leaks would be greatly appreciated. Also it would be great to connect with any other BDR owners, to be able to share information in the future. Thanks. -Jeff
  6. I'm in the Boston area, so a ways from you. But maybe we could meet halfway sometime. Like here :-) : https://www.palmermotorsportspark.com/
  7. Does anything know anything about this wheel? Way cheaper than the Momo, and comes pre-drilled. http://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/race-steering-wheel-270mm-black-suede.html -Jeff
  8. In Massachusetts, if you crush a 1973 or older car which has been registered in MA for at least one year within the past five years, you can make one replica or kit car emissions exempt for life. I am not making this up - it is a real thing. If you are in MA, and need to go this route to get your Seven on the road, contact me ASAP. I have the car you need.
  9. I recently purchased the 1997 Caterham with BDR engine from sabbot on this forum. Just thought I'd give a little background. I have wanted a 7 for 35 years. Actually for many years I wanted a 550 Spyder replica and a 7. I have in my file cabinet a pricelist from Sevens and Elans from back in the 80s (I remember talking on the phone back then with Chris T.), and an 80s Beck 550 Spyder brochure (I also remember talking to Chuck Beck on the phone back then). I had a Porsche 914 for about 10 years (911S front suspension, 914-6 rear, high compression 2.0 liter 4 with Webers, flared fenders with big tires...), and other VWs, so the 550 was very attractive to me. I think the 550 is gorgeous, but I think the 7 is better suited for autocross and track. So over the years I started leaning more towards the 7. Bought a 91 Miata in 93, 2 months before my first daughter was born. She's 25 now, we have 3 other kids, and I still have the Miata. Tastefully upgraded with supercharger, intercooler, suspension, wheels & tires, but otherwise have kept it cosmetically stock. It's a great car, which I drive on the road and autocross. But it's no 7. We've lived in the same house for many years, and I've always wanted to build a garage. As the kids were growing up I didn't want to take the yard space. I used to always say "my gravestone will say 'Never Got His Garage' ". When the youngest hit high school, I figured it was time, so last year we built a 2-car attached garage, with 4-post lift, and heat. Meanwhile I've been looking, looking. This forum, Bring-A-Trailer, Craigslist all across the country. I wanted a traditional-looking Seven, regular size, bucket seats, good power, high roll bar, 13" wheels, cycle fenders, Brooklands screens, a color that I like, and other stuff I can't remember right now. Well, sabbot's car fit the bill, so I am now its caretaker. Still getting used to it, but man is it fun. Really does feel like a 4-wheel motorcycle. Makes my quick and tight Miata feel like a Buick. I've been hanging around this forum for years. Looking forward to getting to know everyone better. -Jeff http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14632&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14633&stc=1
  10. Not sure why the picture in my original post isn't displaying, so here it is again: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14630&stc=1 So, look - I reconstituted it: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14631&stc=1 Even has the same engine!!
  11. I just want to let everyone know that I am now thrilled to be the lucky owner of this car, with the BDA engine. It was delivered to me yesterday (thank you Intercity Transit), however it'll take me a little while to jump through the required hoops to get it registered and inspected in Massachusetts. At some point in the future I'll post a bit more about me. Thank you Sabbot (and Mrs. Sabbot) for a very pleasant buying experience. I look forward to getting to know all of you on this forum better as time goes on. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14609&stc=1
  12. Does anyone in Massachusetts have a Seven with Brooklands Screens? Just wondering if there are any problems passing inspection in MA with these. Thanks in advance.
  13. Please PM me also with your contact info. Thanks.
  14. Thanks coffee break. That's what I concluded when I Googled. Anyone else? That Birkin is just what I've been looking for - Birkin with a 2.0 Duratec. Seems nuts that I can't get it into the US, considering that I could build the same car here.
  15. I am considering that Birkin in Canada. Can anyone comment on what is involved in bringing it into the US? I know what my challenges are to register it in MA where I live, but a quick Google search told me that it may not be possible to get this car into the US, due to EPA rules? Can anyone enlighten me?
  16. Mike - so glad to hear that your car found a good home. I am the "new member" that Mike refers to. I have wanted a Seven since the mid-80s, and have been on this site since 2013. Mike's car checked most of the boxes for me - looked like a fantastic build, came with race wheels and tires, and I know he was a great owner. I actually booked flights to go down and look at it, and likely buy it, and then learned more about what it takes to register one of these in MA, and cancelled my flights. MA is one of the tougher states. I am still researching, and reading the laws, to figure out what my options are. I know I could register a 1996 or earlier car without needing OBD2 or emissions, and almost pulled the trigger on the 1995 white Cat on Bringatrailer yesterday, but the price got beyond what I would have paid for that one. So one of these days, when I get the laws figured out, I'll finally get my Seven.
  17. Can anyone provide any guidance or insight into how to register in Massachusetts a car that is currently titled as a 2004 Caterham? Wondering if I might need to put a catalytic converter on it, or make other changes?
  18. Sounds like the 218hp is at the crank, and I'm guessing your 165 is at the wheels, so this isn't an apples to apples comparison. I think 218hp at the crank would be less than 200hp at the wheels? Still a lot of ponies though...
  19. If you look at my last picture you can see the the tracks for the left door (when facing the garage from outside) are angled to follow the roof. So yes - plenty of room for car on a lift. We designed for it. Even our minivan should be fine up there.
  20. 24' x 24' - pretty standard, but with a breezeway to attach it to the house. For years I've said my gravestone will say "Never Got His Garage". No more.
  21. I have wanted a seven for 35 years. I have wanted to add a garage onto my house for 30 years. Here's my seven in my new garage, in the space where the lift will be installed in about a month: Now if I can just figure out how to rehydrate this thing to get it to grow to proper size: I came very close to buying the yellow Cat on BAT recently. Checked almost all of the right boxes for me. We'll see what comes up in the next year or so...
  22. I would be very interested in this car...if it were a 2.0 Duratec instead of a 2.3. I would be interested in autocrossing it, and a 2.3 puts it in E-mod, I believe, in which it would have to weigh at least 1700 pounds, which is obviously a problem. Can someone confirm this?
  23. Sold?
