1. I'm a big fan of the Etymotic's. I have a pair of the ER4's http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.html that are ten years old. I bought them to listen to music from my iPod in my Kenworth 18 wheeler & stop the constant turbo whine. They are spendy though @ $299. But as they are so sturdy & long lived, The cost isn't so bad. For the seven though. I plan on buying an intercom for music duties & chatting with the copilot.
2. I tried as best I could to understand what you said. But after googling those terms & reading for about thirty minutes. I decided to stop as I soon had thoughts of killing myself. Bottom line is that F1 has become far to pedantic to actually enjoy anymore. To me (a guy that just want's to see close racing) F1 has become more like dealing with the Borg on Star Trek TNG. And that's sad, As the F1 TV coverage here in Europe is absolutely brilliant. Sky TV has a 24 hour Hi Def channel dedicated to F1. They even broadcast the winter test's from Spain & Bahrain. But I just can't be bothered anymore. I think it's time to start watching more super seven academy racing & bin F1 just like I did Nascar 25 years ago.
3. You'd also have to gain those 50 Lbs right back in the form of $100 notes to pay for that toy. It's over $100,000 Yikes!
4. I wasn't a fan of the ultra banshee wail of the V10-V8 engines. I much preferred the 80's era V6 turbo's. They were still spinning slow enough to retain an actual reciprocating engine sound. But these new engines (sound wise) have gone too far the other way. With the silliness that is modern F1. I'm not sure I will even continue to watch it anymore. Esp. With the penalty that was levied on Ricciardo (sp) at Red Bull. How dare a race team have a high fuel flow rate. Isn't it enough to limit the total on-board fuel supply. Much less further limiting how fast you are allowed to burn it. Seems if you burn it to quickly, You'll simply run out. So what's the problem. F1 has become the model of a nanny state micromanaging ruling body. F1 needs to have a revolution to throw the elites out the front door.
5. It's 66, sunny, No wind in Southern Germany. We have had zero snow this year.
6. Looks to be in great shape. I'm sure you will find a buyer for it rather quickly. You should tell us about #38 in the back ground.
7. Germany will be the key. As it's Russia's biggest trading partner in the EU. If Angela restricts this trade it will piss off Putin's bosses (the Oligarch's) If America & Germany pulls the visa's for said Oligarch's children (thus kicking them from school) That could also up the pressure on Putin. Things such as this and the general practice of our government to very rarely follow through on a promise has me scratching my head as to why the American citizens insist on handing over more and more power to them. A good example is my health care. I was never to be effected by the ACA as I'm retired military. Part of my AGREED upon benefits was medical care. Now due to the ACA the government has decided to alter that agreement. They now say that if I live more than a two hour drive away from a military base I must sign up for Obama care. That's going to be a huge hit to my paltry military pension check. But as the American public is more concerned with the latest Iphone far more than they are concerned with their countries future. It will of course continue to spiral downwards to the (private) glee of those in power.
8. So if I fly off a curve into the shrubbery. I can then claim that I was just trying to explore my cars roots. Brilliant!
9. Why? To be honest. I pay very little attention to such things anymore. If they build a few of them they will likely end up in the middle east where the likely outrageous price tag is but pocket change. Or It will be sealed in a garage, Never to see the light of day until it's sold at auction to be whisked away to another sealed garage awaiting the next auction.
10. A little overkill at 20Ft unless one plans on towing two sevens. Seems a good price though. But the only issue with aluminum is that it needs to be a very stiff structure as Ali does not tolerate flexing at all.
11. It's always been my understanding that all dual horn systems are dual tone. I have personally never seen a dual horn mono tone system.
12. Total rubbish. It goes against EVERYTHING that is Colin Chapman's Lotus philosophy. Shorten it & bring the forks to a more vertical position. Then they would have a Lotus bike.
13. Showed this to some of my German friends. They had a good laugh, And agreed.
14. I used to work around those candle sticks in the form of a minuteman II ICBM. (a little to your north scannon @ Ellsworth AFB SD) I worked on the guidance system when it was having issues (broke down) in the field.
15. No VAT. And yes, That would be a huge chunk of change. $5300.00 on the VW TDI or 19%. In my home state of WA. if one owns a tax free car for three months prior to registering it in WA. it will remain tax free. Not to hijack my own thread. :rant:They tax the crap out of everything over here. One will even pay 19% VAT when you buy a house. That would have increased the cost of buying my home in Walla Walla by $46,000. :cuss: Everything (with the exception of medical care=0 tax and food=7%) is taxed at 19% at ALL levels. When BMW buys parts from suppliers, They pay 19% on those goods, When BMW sells that car to the dealer, The dealer pays 19% tax on their cost. And then the end user pays 19% tax when they buy the car. It's THE reason that you get a lot of "free" or cheap things from the government here. Or at least they like you to THINK you are getting it for free. And it's where we in the USA are headed. And the folks here also pay about the same income tax that the USA does.
16. I may have found a solution to my problem. I was worried about any warranty issues with the drive train due to towing. I discovered that the insurance company I use has a warranty/insurance policy that will cover the drive train for 4 Yrs at a cost of $1500. Which is a lot better than spending an extra 10K on the M-B suv. The fuel savings over those 4 years should make a dent in that $1500 cost.
17. I guess we are fortunate here in Europe. This is what one can get for the same price as the haulmark lohauler. http://www.prgtrailers.co.uk/cms/resources/prg-trailers-pricelist-2014.pdf http://www.winnertrailers.com/prg-minisporter.htm That enclosed trailer has a GVW of 1500Kgs and a 1000Kgs load capacity, So nets at 500Kgs empty. That's pretty light. Is made of Galvanized steel so is easy to repair or modify. Has 4 wheel hyd surge brakes, spare tire, & a manual winch. Not bad.
18. Better to just get out and survey the area. Better yet. Do like I did while practicing for my CDL test. I set up 5-6 traffic cones and backed up a tractor and 56Ft trailer slalom fashion. Then set up more cones to fashion parallel parking and did that with the same trailer on the blind side. You will really learn a lot about backing a trailer. In other words, Practice, Practice, Practice. Electronic nannies will just make you look stupid when they fail to work. Learn to do it properly first. Then play with the nannies.
19. Positive ground is a bit like anti-matter isn't it?
20. Bloody hell! Did you have to mention the anti-christ of free electron flow.:sadangel: May your bottom area be made sore by engorged flatulent Wildebeests.:jester:
21. I remember years ago (can't remember when exactly but around 30 or more) seeing a seven in a magazine and thought I'd like one. Finally got one at the age of 56.
22. Many a turbo car has water injection. So your not wrong that a little water certainly won't hurt a thing. And of course. With the coil sitting directly aft & below of the Webers doesn't help either. Any fuel overflow or drizzling of filter oil will end up on the coil.
23. I found out the hard way yesterday that Caterhams don't make good U-Boats. Went to town and a hard rain started. All of a sudden on a busy main road the car just goes dead like I turned off the ignition. At least it was easy to push it off the road and onto the sidewalk. Luckily I'm a member of the German auto club (ADAC) and got a free flatbed ride to the shop. After sitting over night in the shop drying out. She's back on the road. I imagine that the coil being mounted to the front of the pedal box may subject it to far too much water along with the exposed K&N airfilters. I might need to move the coil or fashion a splash guard of some sort.
24. I like that Raad Hashim guy. He leaves little doubt as to how he feels. Good on him.
25. One slight issue, Otherwise I'd be game. http://goo.gl/maps/o38V8
