Any copper or brass nearby?

That's a big part of why I sold my table saw. It would occasionally throw the wood at me. Especially oak. Now it's usually the band saw and sometimes the Skilsaw for woodworking.

What I try to do is come clean with my own misfortune (OK, stupidity), so that others may learn. It's human nature to hide your own mistakes and I try hard to overcome that. Doing this in a humerus light helps, at least in my opinion.

Q: Why do aerospace structures have lightning holes? A: To let the lightning through easier. Q: Why do they have so many lightning holes? A: Because lightning never strikes twice in the same place. OK, really dumb jokes that need misspelling to work. I learned at age 16 that lightning frequently strikes the same place. I was an engineer (FCC license title, not my hubris) at the local AM/FM station in PA, and it was my job during thunderstorms to watch out the window at the towers (3 each 190 ft tall) and flip the transmitter back on when lightning hit a tower and tripped a breaker. Happened about once every 15 minutes. BTW, it really was like WKRP in Cincinnati, except we didn't have Loni Anderson.

I had a bad bandsaw accident at home many years ago. I had a small piece of sheet metal, so small that it didn't stick out very far from the blade. I was pressing really hard on it to keep it from flipping up (which should have been the warning). The blade caught and flipped the piece up and I got sliced just like you. Kinda like drilling a thin sheet on a drill press. "I'll just hold it down real tight to the table so it won't spin when it catches". Instead of using the clamps or a vise, you get good at pulling your fingers away real fast.

A blonde and brunette were watching the 6 o'clock news. The news was about a man about ready to jump off a bridge. The brunette turns to the blonde and says " I bet you $50 the man is going to jump." The blonde replies, "Okay you're on." Sure enough, the man jumps, and the blonde gives the brunette $50. The brunette says, "I can't accept this money. I watched the 5 o'clock news, and I saw the man jump then. "No, you have to take it," says the blonde. "I watched the 5 o'clock news too, but I didn't think he would do it again."

What are people running for LS motor (V8) fuel filters?
NVP66S replied to jevs's topic in General Sevens Discussion
If the holes are big enough, it doesn't take much screen area. (see I can make jokes too) But the filter doesn't do its job of filtering out bad stuff. In the American Provincial system of weights and measures, 40 microns is .0016 inches, kinda big. I'm with xcarguy, a 10 micron post filter is added insurance. -
That white car near the back looks like it has a light bar across the roof. Did you have a police escort, or is that an illusion?

If you prefer black, I put mirrors from an Aprilia Tuono on my motorcycle. http://product-images.highwire.com/1511853/2255885.jpg PS Skip: How well do those little side screens lower the buffeting? (sorry about the thread jack)

I have no information on the GBS or Tiger, but I can help on the Westie. Mine is the SEiW, and I'm pretty sure that all Westies come with the wide body now. I have a friend who is 6"1 and he rides to lunch with me most every day. No complaints. He's also driven it with no problems. His size 11 street shoes (OK, sneakers) also work fine. I have size 9.5 shoes and my regular street shoes are fine. Mine has a dropped floor, and it's about as low as you would want. I can put my finger tips on the ground outboard of the exhaust, and the seat retaining bolts bottom onto speed bumps more frequently than the oil sump. -
That may have been the ullage volume. Fuel tanks (especially more modern designs with evaporative emissions controls) are designed so that temperature changes do not force liquid out the vent or into the charcoal canister.

I have only one Snap-On wrench. I found it at a stop sign. As for Harbor Freight, they have a store near me so I can inspect before buying. Some stuff isn't up to my standards, but a lot is. The only HF tool I actually broke in service was a 3/8 drive extension and I was mistreating it at the time. I recently got some aluminum jackstands from HF. I have zero fear that they will fail with any of my vehicles, but if somebody here wants to go halves, I can put one on the Instron machine and measure the strength & deflection. It's good to 10,000 lbf and recently calibrated.

Looks like your Speedhut sensors are similar to my Mazda OEM gauge sensor. I just measured it and gave the data to VDO. I measured 85 Ohms at the thermostat set point. Unfortunately, the VDO rep said I need to replace the sensor with one of theirs. And thanks for the build thread. I'm enjoying it immensely. (PS that olive oil is probably no longer virgin with those 3 probes sticking in)

Thanks for the response. I'm just trying to figure out if the Stalker 'kit' is comparable to the Westfield. As of when I got my title & registration, I had 130 hours on the donor car dismantling and refurbishment, and 370 hours building the WF. About 70 of that went into the wiring harnesses. I'm the first to admit that I'm kinda slow; I tend to measure 3 times and cut twice. That time is hands-on only. No logging of buying tools, redesign, studying the manuals, etc. Dan

Love seat?

So what is the estimated build time for an M-spec, assuming use of the fiberglass bits instead of pulling molds? I know Westfield's numbers are .... low.

Thinking of selling my seven for a 911. Any input?
NVP66S replied to Robert O. Urfer's topic in General Sevens Discussion
That right there would make me walk away. I have a particular fondness for maintainability. It's one reason I sold my MR2. The drivetrain was designed for the front drive Corolla and Toyota translated it into the back seat to make a mid/rear layout. For example, I changed the oil many times, but never saw the oil filter in place. Did it by feel. -

You can't do that here in the desert. If I leave my car outside for one day, it's covered with a fine dusting of decomposed granite. Sure it will run fine for a few thousand miles, but the rings and cylinders are wearing thinner. As far as performance is concerned, it's losing power compared to well designed intake runners. Those sharp edges at the carbs are cutting max power by at least 5%. -

I wonder how many miles it has without air cleaner(s). -

Looks very tidy indeed. I only spotted a few nits, such as there is a wiper motor but no blades. Depending on what State you want to register it in, you may need fenders that cover the entire width of the tires. Minor nits those. Dan -
Yeah, but Storker is easier to pronounce than 'Waterfowler' :jester:

Two comments. First, that Miata you passed at 3:20 seems to have had the gear selector in R for 'race'. and second, I don't know what kind of muffler you have but it seems to do an excellent job of muffling. Glad you had fun.

Jesse: Welcome to the madhouse. Of course the Westfield owners here agree the consensus is Westfields. :smilielol5:Seriously, there is hardly any consensus here other than any sevenesque car is incredibly fun to drive. One important question is whether you want to buy or build a car. The first statement I copied is your saying you're not real strong at the technical side. That seems to tilt the answer toward buying a car. -
I have always liked VDO and have used them in a few places. For 3 reasons I am planning to remove the Miata OEM gauge cluster in my Westfield and plan to replace them with VDO. I was astounded that the local dealer is suggesting a speedo using a GPS sender. !! I already have a mechanical oil press gauge and voltmeter on a separate sub panel, so the new cluster will be speedo, tach, coolant temp, and fuel level.

I agree. We drive small cars so I added an LED bar from CBS to the roll bar. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/28-led-high-level-brake-light
