  1. I guessed two, based on the forensics lab tub used for getting barrel marks.
  2. There's a Lotus 23 up for auction at BaT http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-lotus-23/
  3. Did you hear about the dyslexic lawyer who studied all year for the bra exam?
  4. Actually, the engine in my '72 Elan had *three* cams. When Lotus took the Kent motor and added the twin cam head, they kept the pushrod cam to run the distributor (and fuel pump IIRC).
  5. Aaaarrggggg.......
  6. That's extra funny for me right now. The company I work for is currently interviewing to hire a CEO. I sent that link to the executive search committee. I'll see what kind of responses I get. Thanks.
  7. And here I thought it was 1/2 of a Subaru engine. :hat: Seriously, good on ya' for finally getting it. Dan
  8. Welcome to the forum. Just FYI, my Westfield was configured for the Mazda (not Honda) powertrain, but chassis delivery time was 5 months. Dan
  9. I made my own plastic wings and got the sheet plastic and hinge pins from McMaster-Carr
  10. I can confirm that's a Westfield. It has the basic roll bar (most buyers upgrade) and a hard lid over the boot box. It also seems to have the rear fenders integral to the body; there is also a version with separate, replaceable rear fenders. Not sure about the age.
  11. As long as we're all waiting for Croc's newsletter (Thanks, Croc), and as long as we're going off topic (I seem to be good at that, sorry), how about we stay with cars? I'll start with answering what kind of car the Saint drove, a Volvo P1800. Next, what kind of car was pushed off the cliff in the original Italian Job movie?
  12. If you ever get to Willow Springs, lemme know. I live about 20 miles from there. Dan
  13. Heh. I was waiting to make a left turn. The driver of the 18 wheeler who had the right-of-way was waving for me to go ahead. As I pulled in front of him and waved, I saw he was taking pictures of me with his cell phone. These cars are fun in many different ways.
  14. So.... what kind of driving do you want to do?
  15. Thanks for sharing. That center rear view mirror looks smaller than what comes with the kit. Is it stock? I never installed mine as the 2 outboard mirrors do a good job and the center blocks too much visibility in my opinion.
  16. There's potentially a big dollar difference depending on whether you can unload it, or need a lift gate. Truck decks are 4 ft off the ground and they normally back up to a dock to load or unload. If you don't have a fork for loading or unloading, they must send a special truck with a lift gate, and then take that truck to the local depot to load the over-the-road truck. My Westfield came in a crate about your size and we used 2 forks to unload it; (no loading dock) one to pull the crate and lift the near end, and one to lift the far end after it got pulled out. Make sure you tell them if you need this service at one or both ends.
  17. There are two fatal flaws with me sharing that desire. One, I get motion sick, and two, my lizard brain recoils in horror at heights. Which is funny, as I have no problem flying small airplanes. OTOH, I have put my plane on the ground because I was too weak from motion sickness to keep flying. What IS on my list is to mod the Westie and do some traveling.
  18. I want to say, for the record, that all my experiences buying and building my Westfield were positive. The factory visit in Britain was pleasurable, and my dealings with the importer were 100% positive. There were a few bits missing from the kit and the importer had the factory replace them in a timely manner with no questions asked. The builders support organization returned my emails ALWAYS within 24 hours. My only negative comment is that there were a few aspects of the kit that were not straightforward assembly that needed some creativity.
  19. Where I grew up, it's: "Have a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!" which required a dinner of pork and sauerkraut on new year's day. So all y'all have one, ya hear! (I'm mixing the regionalisms there)
  20. Reminds me of this photo, stolen from Road & Track magazine, captioned: "At the back of every traffic jam is a bloke who thinks he's Stirling Moss"
  21. Lots more Westies on that side of the pond; enough that there are multiple spec races every weekend during the season. Looks like those were all LHD cars.
  22. I am astounded at the prices on these. I had a good condition '72 Elan +2 that I sold in 1988 for $7500, which was market value at the time. Just wow.
  23. I'm impressed. That takes real skill and patience. Dan
  24. Oh my, now I can't flush the image of a pacer with a 6 liter twin turbo AMG prepared Merc engine. It would take a seriously demented person to build one of them. Kinda like..... you know...... somebody who would drive a se7en on the road.
  25. I bought a grey market Mercedes 280E many years ago. It was brought in by the previous owner and everything seemed to be legal. It was my insurance company that insisted on reviewing the paperwork. I didn't have that paperwork, but I did manage to hire a private individual who pulled copies out of the government records. Their reason was because a previous customer claimed his grey market car was stolen, when it had actually been seized. That hurdle passed, they then insisted I change the speedo from Km/hr to mi/hr. That's when I changed insurance companies. I enjoyed that car for several years.
