  1. Oh sorry I misunderstood. So the long 5/8 bolt running thru the upright broke? Did the bolt break or did the weld break? I hadn't seen or heard of that failure either. I could see the weld breaking off the end bracket if it didn't have enough penetration.
  2. Gary Brazine designed this shirt.
  3. On my first Ultralite build I took a think 3/16 washer and a tapered steel spacer and tig welded the spacer to the large washer. With the machined aluminum plug slide into the back of the hub then tightened it down. This would spread the load thru the spacer and reducing flexing and remove some strain from the bolt. This design has bothered me a bit from the start. I have literally thousand laps over over the years and never a failure with this set up even with slicks and with more power than most S2k owners run. I use every inch of track available including the curbs. Our One Lap trailer probably weighs about 1k lbs loaded with a tongue weight of 150lbs. We bounced up and down some of the worst roads in America and only suffered a slightly bent bolt about 1/4". I think a bracket could be made to mount the shock to that would have a multiple mounting points. Single point failures can be eliminated with that design. Im not an engineer so maybe you engineering guys can give some input on that thought.
  4. Bracket http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Weld-On-Upper-Mount-for-Bearing-End-Shocks,32397.html threaded tubes http://www.speedwaymotors.com/AFCO-Aluminum-Tube-12-Inch-Long-7-8-Inch-OD5-8-Inch,40963.html You may have to search for your desire length.
  5. About 1.25 to the shock then .25 tappered spacer to trailing arm then another tapered spacer after trailing arm to washer then nut. I run the shock as close to the hub as possible so that the greatest load is close to the hub. The trailing arm load is less than the shock. Just check your shock clearance thru suspension travel on the half shafts.
  6. I have never seen those bolts break. We pulled a heavy trailer for 8k miles that often bottomed the shock out on hard bumps and I had them bend a little from that but never had a complete failure. I also used a tapered spacers on my bolts.
  7. Sounds like a tire seperating or a weight came off. Try rebalancing while its on the balancer you may be able to see if there is a small knot or out of roundness with one of tires while its on the machine.
  8. Thats car number 1 I believe. It has the Saturn motor. That is the car that was in Kit Car magazine that made me want an Ultralite. I had someone asking about that car just about 1 month ago.
  9. I like the cleanable units myself as well. There are dozens of manufactures that make them. It will depends on how your fuel system is set up. If you have an external pump I prefer to put one before the pump.
  10. I edited that photo 3 times it always comes out sideways. I guess it's my nature.
  11. My work truck. Its almost as big as Aloskies Unimog.
  12. Sounds like diff is shifting around. Worn bushing on a track bar? Pics will help with your set up.
  13. I forgot that car had the Mugen pan. You should be good. We can throw a Rotrex on there and get another 100hp when you get bored with stock set up. I talked to the Honda engineers that we did the One Lap of America with a few times. They told us the same thing. They really abuse them on the dyno. They run them for hours at redline. They told us they had one last over 700 hours before failure. I don't know if its true but that's what we were told.
  14. Gearing certainly differs from track to track. A long course like VIR the 4:11 may be better. Just try and see what you feel is right for you. Don't be afraid to rev the Honda. 6-9k rpm is the sweet spot. Just be sure to keep the oil high on the dip stick. If you plan on frequent track use with slicks. You might want to consider a baffled oil pan from Endyn.
  15. Roman sent you a text that I have a 4:44 on the shelf.
  16. 4:44 is great for auto x and track usage. You will rarely get to 6th 3-5 is mostly used. With 4:44 I usually start in second unless on a slope or loading on the trailer. If you think it's quick with 4:11 up is 10 percent faster with 4:44. If I were doing a 3k mile tour then I would run 3:90-4:11 ratio just for less revs on the road. I would drive it with 4:11 you can always change that later.
  17. The only place that 5/8 should be is on the rear hub. All the front should be 1/2 joints.
  18. That sucks to be hit and run. It looks like its repairable. If you need a fender let me know.
  19. If you do any research at all it is widely reported that Trayvon was a consunmer of "Lean, Purple Drank or Sizzurp" Its a popular drink in the hip hop world. It is what has put Lil Wayne in the hospital several times the last few years. One way to make Lean is with Watermelon fruit punch made by Arizona Ice Tea or Sprite. Skittles or Jolly Rancher mixed with Robitusin or Rx cough medicines. His face book page had refrences to this concoction since 2011. One of the side effects of prolonged use of Sizzurp is aggressive behavior and paranoia. Much like a long term meth user. His social media sites also had several refrences of him going up to people and punching them for no reason. He bragged about the best way to start a fight is to walk up to someone and punch them on the nose. So If you look at his past history I dont have to reach to hard to come to the conclusion that he got ahead of Zimmerman and suprised him with a punch to the nose like he had bragged about before. He just didnt plan on his opponent having a gun. Does the use of any type of drug justify the killing? Certainly not, but I dont think he was this sweet little innocent kid that was portrayed to the public. He was 3 inches taller and within 20lbs of Zimmerman and had MMA fighting experience. He may have felt embolden by his fighting experience and thought to himself I will teach this "crazy ass Cracker" not to follow me. If Travyon was worried about someone following him why didnt he call the police and say. Hey I got a strange guy following me? He was less than 100 yards from his fathers girlfriends townhouse. Why didnt he just run home. He could have been there in less than 13 sec. More info on Trayvons past if you care to see his character. http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2013/05/01/m-dspd-cover-up-the-curious-case-of-trayvon-martins-backpack-with-stolen-jewelry-and-burglary-tool/ 152 pages of his tweets http://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/86809463#fullscreen It appeared to me to be a case of self defense IMO. I'm sure none of this will change anyones minds on the situtation. Everyone has the side they feel is right, but I think a large part of the story has been covered up to stir the pot by the media. Everyone loses in the end.
  20. Sorry Bruce for the late reply to your PM. That's a good starting point. Caster is probably the max you can get. It will keep the car very stable at high speed and on the road. Steering will be a bit heavier at low speed but not really a big difference. If you can get between 4.5-5.5 degrees you will be happy.
  21. Yes John the stock Subi bushing will work. I made some out of Delron that worked pretty well but the Poly Units should be good too.
  22. Definitely not Rotrex. It looks a Whipple screw charger layed on its side. Wonder how they are cooling the air charge? Plate cooler built into the supercharger?
  23. Rotrex supercharger?
