  1. From what I see 7's gather fans from all walks of life. I'm in my mid 30's, tech in Semiconductor industry. Been at it for over 10 years and deliberating on moving on to Engineering in my career path, however grass is always greener. Coding always looks interesting as a potential career change with high demand or something in data science/analytics, which seems more alluring. What do you do? Do you like it? Does it pay the bills? What does the future outlook like for your career? I like Semiconductors. Always something to learn and is definitely future proof. It pays the bills but on the grand scheme of things even as Engineer 6 figure salary isn't guaranteed and takes a while to get to in my area.
  2. The movie file didn't upload proper, I don't think. Is everything you post been video edited by you? Is that your drone work? If so quite impressive on all accounts.
  3. From very limited research into the area almost nothing off the shelf will fit into an S3 chassis. I believe even the Tillett seats that are used are specially made for S3's and aren't standard. Even with that the Tilletts are an incredibly tight fit that sit right up against both walls and rub against the middle divider on the way in and out. With that said there has been a number of OEM options over the years that work between Caterham, Westfield and Birkin that should fit or are at least worth looking into.
  4. I've seen that and built something very similar. Nose cone isnt on it right now but hangs in a similar fashion, just faces the other way. It also holds the doors and the windshield. My hood part also folds up when not in use. Pardon the mess, too cold to clean the garage over winter so things pile up

  6. Mo power Mo problems with that said we all want more power
  7. IMO Cost benefit analysis isn't there to try to reuse any questionable part.

  9. In other words, what would be the vehicle you would have chosen to satisfy your "7 type needs" if 7 never existed. Morgan trike? Ariel? Elise? Miata etc Not looking for an answer of another car you happen to like or own, if it's not similar in concept and or execution to what a 7 embodies. Light. Roadster. Affordable...
  10. Ah. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who've had that dilemma! I might even change my methods going forward to hooks as well.
  11. Touching this subject matter again, but you piqued my curiosity. If I recall my 2001 rear wings are normal carbon with no fiberglass, if I look on the inside I see the weave clearly. I can also compare them to the MOG backup set that I have. Is the fiberglass overlay for the rears part of the new change over as well or am I misunderstanding how mine are made and they are also an overlay? Either way your discovery is quite disappointing from a consumer perspective. Justification for the price differential is weight + looks, but if it's just looks and is actually detrimental to the weight that leaves a lot to be desired and I'd think twice about such an order.
  12. AFAIK the proper front jack point is the meeting of all suspension tubes in the center of the front frame behind the rad.
  13. 3 weeks got ya down? I think I put mine away in October. 7s event was the last time I drove it. Probably not taking it back out until April 🥺
  14. Damn cookies! FB is always listening.
  15. Its alright. I was just curious. You've given me a second reason not to have too much faith into the new CC CF products. I know I won't buy any vertical orientation unless I absolutely had to. Right now I have a pending order from Westermann for a few more missing parts. I'm sure I'll be quite happy with the product. The unfortunate price tag (justified for the quality) is just a bullet I'll have to swallow. I got the upper and lower wishbone whiskers, S3 to CSR adaptation front wing mounts and CF mirrors.
  16. Those parts look aircraft grade. Very nice! Re-dash. Are new Caterham CF dashes also vertically oriented for the CF pattern? They switched to vertical instead of diagonal pattern for front and rear fenders, blinker pods, aero screen and I can only assume the dash as well. I personally don't care for the vertical so you're probably better off.

  18. That's crazy! Positive it's not a trip setting? Also want to make sure you don't consider driving anywhere without replacing those tires. In our light cars it's hard to get good grip so tires are very important. I'm giving a warning because it's very easy to just go by tread if he never drove it and disregard their condition/age which would essentially "brick" the tires after the oil escapes over time. These tires are essentially "expired". I also say that from experience that if you don't do it ahead of time, it will be very easy to "just take it around the block" to test the old ones. Then you'll feel comfortable in the fact that you can take it around on a bigger ride and next think you know you get comfortable with them and they let go at the worst possible time and all that hard work restoring will turn into a bigger restoration project and having to deal with insurance for an obscure car which can be a nightmare. My $.02
  19. Correct. No heating can overcome an open dome and wind-chill. If you've ever ridden a bike in the cold you know the feeling well. Ive gotten caught with the windscreen only a few times late season after the sun goes down and temps plummet. It's not a pleasant experience even with the heat. You're sliding down in your seat to get out of the air stream as much as possible as cold air is blasting your face. With windscreen and or half hood it's a different story. Heat can actually stay. With doors even more so. The 7 you're looking for is it Zetec or Duratec? I ask because I know on Zetecs even without a heater all it takes is removing the pedal cover in the engine bay and you have unlimited heat in your compartment. More than you could ever need and much more than puny blower produces. Engine temp and your headers being directly ahead of your feet will make you miserable in summer and cozy in colder months.
  20. Swapping over to a modern platform will be an overwhelming amount of work. It might seem like "well I'm already doing the same work to fix this one" but no, it's almost monumentally more work for a gain that can be achieved on existing platform with less work and likely less money. Our choices in US are Zetecs until mid early 2000's (like you and I have) and Duratecs which came later and are a more robust platform overall. Duratec swap would require an obvious Duratec (likely $2k+), new mounts, new wiring harness, cut a new hole in existing side skin on the right, new exhaust to go on the right, either replace the side skin on the left or just leave it as a hole, new cooling system routing etc for starters. For Zetecs your options are what you have now (I believe it's a non SVT Zetec), or swapping to an SVT or building/force induction on the Zetec you have now. After much reading from the gurus, SVT is a better motor stock for stock (~170hp, vs ~130hp) and has a Coworth head, however minor common changes to a stock Zetec make it essentially an SVT comparable motor (they are both Zetecs but are totally differently built motors). Stock Zetec 130hp is chocked by stock exhaust (Cats have a more free flowing exhaust), chocked by stock intake (ITB's are a common swap like I have) and head/cam work with a tune to give it a claimed "200hp" selling figure on the Zetec as advertised as a package. If you want more than "200hp" (crank) you'll either need to go for a complete build (like another member is going for here now from Raceline) or go forced induction (Both Turbo and Supercharging has been done with relative ease on the SV platform). I personally battled with the same decision and will currently long term be trying to shoe horn a Rotrex type supercharger into my Zetec S3. Roots type blowers have never been made fit (to my knowledge) on an S3 but there has been success on SV's. (I'm literally 1/4 in or so short from fitting one of the superchargers I have on hand). As other advice has been given here, test your motor as it is now. Confirm whether it's worth saving (good compression etc) or whether you just need another Zetec. Some of these motors can be found for $500 or even less and would be an easy direct swap that can put you back on the road quicker.
