Seems like a very fair price, especially given some recent sales I've seen/what I know I'm putting into SB1341. The frame swap thing is a little "suspishy" IMO, but if JW has the docs to prove the provenance, that's good news. If I didn't already lay claim to an "in restoration" S2, I'd be very interested in this car.

Thanks guys...I think DTA may also be looking for some specific history/benefits for the various marques as well. No bashing allowed, but feel free to sing the praises of your preferred brand.

@JohnCh & JimF: Thanks for the reminder that I need to get on with duties as Club President! More soon.

Folks- David Travers Adolphus of Hemmings (he was at 7-7-7 and did that piece on driving to and from the event from NYC with Boxologist) has been charged with putting together a Se7ens buyers guide for the mag. Anyone feel like putting their 2¢ in should chime in on this thread, and I'll direct him to it. Perhaps we can use this as a springboard for that "newbie FAQ" section of the site I've bandied about for a few years now. -Al

It's exciting news for all Se7eners whenever a clubber's car gets press! Hooray!

1000 lbs or under. I think the Superlight was 1100 (with roll bar, fuel cell, etc.)
-
FWIW, I run a 2003 Pilot with our open trailer that is nearly identical to Budlight's. Two upgrades that have made me happy over the years: Airlift 1000 rear air suspension I towed down to the Dragon before we had this upgrade and you could tell that the rear was squatting a bit. Very uneven tirewear. Fortunately, I was about due to get new tires when all of this happened. Makes a big difference, IMHO. Electronic Brake Controller Maybe overkill given the weight of the trailer/se7en (can you believe that the S2 will probably be lighter than the Superlight?!) compared to the Pilot, but it was a nice safety net just in case the tail started wagging the dog.

@Tom M. - Except I'm not finishing it in primer! ;-P

Beachman-McClure Racing 3rd Overall at 25 Hours of Thunderhill
Al N. replied to scannon's topic in General Sevens Discussion
@Kitcat...I think the Saville-Peck install of the 'busa requires the wider frame. I asked about this many years ago, when I was looking for my first Seven. -
@Tom-Since the car was at already at certain point in its rebuild when I took over the project, it won't be as historically correct as it could be...it will be more of a period-correct hot rod.
-
I am in awe, Tom. Simply in awe. I'm glad I've taken my Seven fetish in a different direction, because I'd be compelled to duplicate your efforts on a modern car. Well done, golf clap to you, sir.

@11Budlite: Bruce, that looks like one of the original Springhalls...from what I understand, there is no metal frame/rim that goes all the way around the wheel...so in the event of a crash, you could end up with some splinterage! The Les Lestons are very close in styling, so I hope the LOG 30 voting base won't hold that against me/the car! As for sizing, we'll have to wait and see. The car came with a period correct "racing" style black/black wheel, so I can always use that. @BruceBowker: Yes, of course! It's probably been 10 years since I first stopped you to ask about your car at the Frenchtown Citgo...just go slow enough that my old car can keep up! @Croc: Mike, the car is still in rebuild in Colorado. Well, actually, the rear axle is in Wisconsin...I found an apparently unmolested Triumph rear and am having Chris Beebe (Peter Egan's pal) do his strengthening deal on it. And I think I've mentioned, I bought 5 wobblies from various and sundry people in the past few months. John D. is an amazing hub/resource for original Lotus Sevens here in the US; though even I surprised him by finding that spare axle.

I was thinking that those not involved in planning/hosting LOG might rendezvous somewhere on 15 in Maryland or VA a day or two early...and drive up this "scenic byway". Laura knows that I'm committed for that weekend...and maybe the week. I think she's interested in coming along this time since it's close and the DC crowd from 7-7-7-7 (Michael, Mazda, Scott L., Steve T.) will be more likely to come.

Car is still being put together...slowly but surely. With luck, it'll be in NJ by Spring. It's been interesting finding/buying parts here and there. The original cars came with 13.5 to 14" wheels from what I know...was shooting for 14", but this one (15") came up from Mike Lempert and I liked the blonde wood to complement what will be a mostly black car...my car won't be 100% original, but I'm trying to keep most things period-correct.

Road use. The wobblies I just bought have a UPS shipping weight (in box) of 10 lbs, so I think I can afford the extra weight of the cr6zz, especially considering the negatives you all describe. Not DOT, either, but when has that stopped anyone from being foolish!
-
Tom- Can you shoot me your home address to al at Mintadv dot com? I think the difference is 10 lbs a tire. Happy happy to you, too. Very interested in the specs of the vintage 7...I've nerded out a bit on all the vintage stuff and would love to chat. Mine won't be John Watson perfect, but it will have to do....
-
Anyone? Anyone? Also, the ACB9s weigh 10 lbs less than the CR6ZZ...should I care?
-
Thinking about them for SB1341 on 13 x 5 inch wheels. Street and very occasional auto-x use. Info on where you buy and how much you pay would be greatly appreciated.

Friends, Roman, and countrymen... I'm thinking of buying a cheap car to teach the kids in my church how to drive a stick car. While I personally think a Toyota Tercel is a great car to learn on (it's what I learned on), I'd like to have something that I would actually enjoying driving/auto-xing when not letting the kids burn the clutch out. So, I'm thinking Miata. But I could be convinced otherwise. Please chime in if you have thoughts and price ranges. Under $2500 streetworthy/registerable would be great.

Looks like a clean, relatively complete starting point for someone looking to build a Se7en. FWIW, Bruce is a great guy...I wouldn't hesitate vouching for him!

I think Croc may be on to something re: SVTs plumbing vs. regular Zetecs. I'm sure there are pics of Orange's engine bay on here somewhere...damn hose.

I look forward to rejoining the hijinks at some point in 2010. That's Bruce Wnuk's blue Europa, right? Great guy and very nice car. Regarding "spirited drives", I can remember a moment on the Tail of the Dragon following someone and approaching lockup at a very high rate of speed. Fortunately, it was on one of our early AM drives and Laura was not a passenger. FWIW, I have found following Stalkers the easiest...I don't think those guys ever hit the brakes! :-) Oh, you guys were up that far North?!? There is a great road between that area and New York...the one that goes to Dingman's Ferry. I drove it in the DD enroute to Monticello Motor Club a few weeks ago.

Was there a car at all in the pilot? That will determine whether or not I watch it.
