2009 National Meet in Branson - Trackday info!!!
powderbrake replied to Al N.'s topic in National Events
Put me in for the track day. I encourage all of you seveners who have not had your seven on a track to seriously consider signing up. This is a great opportunity to have as much fun as possible while wearing clothes. The HPDE ( High Performance Driving Event) format is one in which a group of cars with drivers of similar experience level are running around the track at their own comfort level, without a bunch of higher level drivers blasting around them, and without worrying about slowing up faster drivers. With an HPDE format, you can start off in a novice group and move up as your familiarity with the track increases. Another advantage of this track day is the presence of many very accomplished drivers. I am sure they will give you advice on tire pressures, what line to take around the course, and any other info you will want. This is a unique opportunity for a first time "track day" with the brotherhood of sevens, so do yourself a favor, and sign up. Perhaps we can get one of the Hallet experienced drivers to lead some slow speed laps on the "proper line" to show us all the right line to attack Hallet. -
Well.............................maybe a little British, now that it's aBMW after all.

Here are a few pics of the KC car show. Russ Amos managed to get 14 Sevens to the show and cruise. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/29772348_Cruise1 (Medium).JPG Sevens were the feature marque, all in the first row http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/419326_Lineup1 (Medium).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1305526000_Lineup2 (Medium).JPG Russ and the trophies for the Sevens exhibitors http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/238810441_Trophy1 (Medium).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2129408333_Trophy2 (Medium).JPG Trials demo http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1374997655_DSC_5830 (Medium).JPG Russ being a parking spot http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/76852577_DSC_5834 (Medium).JPG

I agree, and will be writing up the event for the newsletter. Russ has more energy than 3 people combined, and that much talent too!!! here's some pics of the lineup of 14 Sevens. More to come later http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2048810140_DSC_5773 (Medium).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/848138456_DSC_5809 (Medium).JPG

Ok, which way does the diode face? Arrow up? or arrow down?

Good reaction time by the driver to save the car from flying off the ramps.

Well get out your handkerchief... my garage has a separate heating and air conditioning system. It's about 25 ft at the peak, so I can get my Tahoe full height on the lift. It is fully insulated and drywalled, and has 2"thick insulated doors, which are 8 foot high, rather than the normal 7. I did that in case I wanted to roll the lift out someday. That's pretty unlikely, as it would roll down the driveway. Hank: a 2 post and a 4 post would be lift heaven. In my old garage, the floor was epoxy. What a royal pain in the butt that installation was!!! After doing it I vowed the next garage would have tile. Mine is a snap together tile, which has holes in it, so when I wash the floor, the water runs thru the tile, and out from under it with the slope of the garage floor. The product was Motormat, but their website isn't up anymore, they dealt through etileflooring.com. You can google garage tiles for lots of vendors of plastic tiles. It only took myself and two grandkids one day to install it (about 1000 square feet)

Hank, you and Gary have two post lifts, which are really handy for brake and wheel work. I wish I had one last week when I was replacing the disk pads and ebrake shoes on my vette. I have a 4 poster. Here's what it all looked like before I moved all my stuff in. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1112877461_lift.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/507813962_8ftbay.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1578633196_16ftbay.jpg

You won't believe what happened today!
powderbrake replied to slngsht's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I am not sure which of you were screaming for joy, I later concluded it was both of you. The battery restraint system is a bit crude, but everything else is perfect. -
I have decided that busaloco is retired or independently wealthy, that his seven never needs repair, his grass never needs cutting, or the house worked on, which means that he can spend all his time searching YouTube for se7en videos. :7fume:

WCM Ultralite S2K @ Pacific Raceways 08-11-08
powderbrake replied to BusaLoco's topic in Seven Videos
Chad, now you are really having fun!! That is what the car was meant for. Did you notice you can change your line, driving closer to the inside, and using less track than when you were driving your other car? -
Well it would appear that the forum has given tarheelturbo information on a lot of "insane" choices going well beyond his WCM or Caterham ideas. It will be interesting to see what he chooses, and how insane he finds it.

Ins7ity is terriffic!!! A very classy, informative and well executed newsletter. Congrats to John, Mazda and Al. The layout, colors and style show that it is more than just a typical Word document, it's a real publication. I love the calendar with the events in red, it makes it easy to see what is going on. Diana Kennedy needs a seven, and she needs to do more articles. She is an excellent writer. Two comments. 1) the seven in the headline is squashed in the newsletter. 2) It is easier to read the articles on the computer ( and on the printouts) if they remain contiguous on sequential pages. See www.windingroad.com for example

Having met Mark Scott at Run & Gun last year , and having seen the Super Stalker and the Ferrari P4, I can attest that his work is unrivaled. heck of a nice guy too. The execution was evidence of professional race car builders. Everything was secure, perfectly formed tubing bends, clean and very "sanitary". Here's a pic I took of the Stalker, and one of the business end of the P4 http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/71467_DSC_4351 (Medium).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/598082809_DSC_4325 (Medium).JPG

I believe you will kick yourself in the butt if you buy a car without examining the alternatives. I made a 650 mile trip to WCM to see the car, drive it, and place an order. If you are willing to spend up to $40,000 you should see the cars. There are some nice cars in Georgia, including hot Caterhams, Superstalkers, and Kevin's SC S2K.

Your intended purposes can be met by many marques. I suggest you get rides in as many of your potential choices as you can. One thing you didn't mention, and that is weather gear. Do you plan to criuse in all weather?, or is it not a considerstion? I personally don't expect to take long multiday cruises where we might experience a lot of rain, as I have no weather gear on my car. I have been caught in the rain ( Cheohola Skyway with rain at 5000 ft elevation at TOTD) and rain suits help, but it's not a lot of fun.
-
Great video!! It looked like you were having fun, but it also looked pretty cold on your trip home.
-
Congrats Chad !! I know you were smiling on that ride. I didn't have the hood on for my first drive either. Having seen your magnificent car, I know you are a precision builder. I was watching the rev lites in the video, and didn't see the red one. Truly, you are also a very patient man. I'm looking forward to the red lite-in-all-gears video. Now that it's done, lets see some finished pics from all views

Welcome tarheelturbo. I also have a 98 Vette convertible, no supercharger though, and I love my seven. There are lots of choices out there. as slngsht said "it is easy to make these cars go stupid fast" They can get you in trouble quickly if you are not careful. The design and weight give them the handling, the motor makes them go faster than stink, but it's the tires that get you around the corner and off the line quickly. Even the mildest engined seven can benefit greatly from a set of slicks, and the monster engined sevens can't use it all even with slicks. So, you need to think what you want it for. Track duty only, cruising the twisties, or a combo of both. Lurk around the site, read the for sale section, and get to know the folks here. See if someone in your area will give you a ride in a seven. You need to see if you can fit in it OK.

I believe it willl handle a 1400 lb car, as it has a 5200#axle. That's only 700# per tire ( plus trailer weight, and this is not a light trailer) It depends a lot on what you are using to pull it. Since there was no mention of brakes, It may not have any, but with a 2 5/16 ball and being a former travel trailer, it might have had brakes. If your vehicle is large enough , you can tow with no trailer brakes, you just have to be more careful. I can't comment on the price. Have you checked with local trailer sellers for the price of a single axle flat trailer? Or on E-bay?

The safest car is a semi. The next safest car is a large SUV. The next is a large sedan. The next is a small sedan. The next is a sub compact. The next is a seven. The next is a motorcycle. Get the picture? SIZE RULES ! And you can't control the other drivers. There is no justification for a seven. It is driven because it is FUN. We all have to decide between risk and reward in everything we do in life. So if you feel you need some fun, drive a seven, if you feel it is too risky for you or your kids, then don't do it. Just don't kid yourself that a lot of bars around a seven will protect you from a bigger car. There is NO way to take all the risks out of life, and still have an enjoyable life.

That looks like a great project. I know you have nothing but time on your hands. That guy in the video did a burnout INTO the garage. Not the direction I would have chosen.:ack:

During the tour, I was amazed at the cleanliness, and the quality of the welding on the stainless steel pipes and the handrails. It wasn't welding it was artwork! The place has more stainless steel than I have ever seen in one spot. I still like the Bud, the Bud Select, Michelob, and their Amber Bock. Hopefully it came through pipes that were clean. As to the basement, they didn't show us that, so I defer to southwind's personal experience.

Goodwood Festival of Speed...Nirvana for Petrolheads
powderbrake replied to BusaLoco's topic in Off Topic
Goodwood looks like a lot of fun. I would love to watch the hillclimb. Just in case I could possibly tie it in to a vacation: When is it each year? How do you get tickets? Where in England is Goodwood located?
