  1. Do we know the buyer? Potential new Sevens member at NJMP?
  2. I am somewhat envious of people that can build something out of virtually nothing. However, without knowing the individual personally, I would never consider buying a car like that. That doesn't mean I'm not watching it to see if someone else feels differently.

If we can find 24 people willing to pay $2,083.33 each, we can rent the track for the day! Website indicates a maximum of 24 people. I'm curious, did they have instructors or were you familiar enough with the track to solo?
  4. I recommend using a pop rivets with washers. One of mine pulled free from the aluminum skin.
  5. Right...that's pretty steep for used tires, especially if you don't know when they were dismounted. Sticky tires dry out quickly - I think I'll stick with fresh Hoosiers
  6. Come to a member day at New Jersey Motorsports Park and get a ride...there are at least three of us that can show you the handling of the Caterham on a race track.
  7. I might be interested. Radials? What size are the slicks and what is the cost/tire?
  8. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/med...UTCC_Final.pdf That's a pretty interesting list. I have hit a high 2:12 at VIR in my Superlight with fresh tires. Even with the V8, a 2:00.871 says something about the Stalker's handling. There was a Caterham in the list that did a 2:11 That's pretty fast - not sure if that was a 2010 SLR or the CSR. Maybe someone knows that car. I've driven many different cars on the track (Porsches, BMWs, Formula Fords, etc) and without a doubt the Caterham is the best handling and most fun to drive. Even experienced drivers that ride with me are amazed how easily the car can be maneuvered. Croc has more experience in testing the rotational characteristics of the car, but mine handles upsets very well and always seems to spin in a tight circle when things do go wrong - most of the time never leaving the track. Despite the predictability of the car, I have never felt comfortable with the driver or passenger protection it offers. For that reason I now have a roll cage with side impact bars. I am still more vulnerable that if I was in a production-based car, but it is much better than it was. I know you want a street car that you can track (or vice-versa), but Sevens are really not the best choice for a dual purpose car if safety is high on your list. On that point, you may get some disagreement from others Setting aside the debate on Sevens for a moment, this has me thinking about what might be the best dual purpose car...that's a hard question to answer.
  9. I think I am going to have to get used to giving the point by...
  10. I spent an hour or so talking to the guy that maintains the car. I was impressed by the details and honesty of his answers. Based on those, it's my impression that this is a competent and reliable race car. The car has already had the sh&t kicked out of it, so I wouldn't expect anything about it to be shiny or tidy. For the price, it is probably a good deal, but not for conversion to street use.
  11. Mary and I will be there... definitely not boys only. Is your wife interested in driving or riding? Half the fun is at the end of the day when we gather for drinks, dinner and dancing. LOL...Tom is not a slacker in any context of the word. He's just modest.
  12. You can see the side mounting hole in this picture - no modification to the frame necessary. Talk to George Alderman at Mid-Atlantic Caterham if you want to know more. He had a local guy fabricate and powder coat paint it. It turned out great
  13. No...not running SCCA. This is pretty much just a track car. The cage unbolts, so if someone wanted to further modify the car, it could be changed. But I have no plans to sell this car - there is really nothing that I (or Mary) would rather drive.
  14. First photos back from George Alderman. Fabricated using the existing rollbar. Finally a rear view mirror that's functional
  15. I'm not sure of the effectiveness of balancing wheels for the track unless you are going to clean the inner wheel of the rubber pieces that accumulate throughout the day. I don't bother anymore - it seems kind of pointless.
  16. Thanks for the advice. I sent George the link to the Caged website (http://www.therollcagepeople.com/gallerycaterham.htm) I was hoping Tom would see this thread - he talked about adding a cage to his Caterham. Maybe we could save something on price and freight if we ordered together. Croc...I think you need a cage too!
  17. Thanks for posting videos. I did drive the Caterham the last session and managed not to spin - that of course after having spun the Boxster on the very first warm up lap of the day and then another two times after that. I never shy away from the curbing for the reasons Croc pointed out. My Caterham seems not to mind being jostled around.
  18. Just spoke with George Alderman at Mid-Atlantic Caterham. George figures with freight and additional shipping the Caterham Roll Cage will cost $3,000. That does not include installation. WRT installation, if there are stubs (welded nuts) on the frame, the installation should be straightforward. If they are not there, then the price tag goes up considerably. I am going to have a cage installed - just not sure which option is best. My takeaway from this discussion is I should get a cage that is at least FIA Compliant. Tom et al.: A container will be shipping shortly to Caterham USA full of cars. If you need/want something large from Caterham UK, now is the time to order
  19. Not Sat for sure...maybe Sun. Planning on being there for the 17th and 18th, Bought a Spec Porsche Boxster as a second race car. It should arrive from CA in time for the event.
  20. Somebody broke into my truck last night (actually they just opened the door) and went through the glove compartment, center console and a bag of items in the back seat. I can't believe they passed over the three DVD copies of "50 Years of the Seven" Thankfully, those were the only thing of value in the car and they didn't recognize it...morons!
  21. We should trade cars one of these days...I'm curious how you find the handling differences. One of these days, I'll be going with you. I'd love to drive one of the circuits in the UK
  22. Wow...and Mary is getting good. She was turning 1:18s at Lightning with an instructor in the car. I need another car - that's just too much punishment for the SLR.
  23. And then there were these.... http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1044_zpsbf25960b.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1038_zpsf63029cf.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1032_zps209babea.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1034_zps550aaa99.jpg
  24. Nice engine! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1029_zpsbfafa308.jpg
  25. Some very nice original sevens competing at VIR for the Heacock Classic Gold Cup races http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1046_zpseeb02989.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1043_zps00450763.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1028_zpsd2c39e8a.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b538/jbharrison01/IMG_1031_zpsb84f6be6.jpg They turn laptime of 2:14 to 2:16
