:hurray: Gary, you are my hero! You're the only guy I know who has the forethought to have a set of rain tires which you change to in order to drive in the rain in a Seven. Heck, when it's raining over here, I leave the Seven in the garage and just take the tintop.:jester: just kidding...but really, you ARE my hero! :hurray:

Front license plate? Where? How?
RDROCKT replied to SevenHeaven's topic in General Sevens Discussion
We have no front plates here in Michigan....we can't afford them!! -
It had gotten slower gradually so I hadn't noticed...NOW I NOTICE! Good job.

Congrats to you and Michelle. Fun to be there when you made that RENTAL CAR FLY! No poop people, Kevin had that thing aiborne in between turns 5 and 6 at Grattan Raceway Park in Belding, MI!!! The trick was to land just in time to shut it down for turn 6. WELL DONE. Now that you are back to earth (so to speak) please save us a close up spot near the garages at Gateway International Raceway in St Louis for Run & Gun. We'll be pulling in around dinner time on Tuesday. http://www.runngun.net/

The Birkin list talks about using the alternator from the Geo Metro... perhaps this might help on a Caterham.

I can vouch for the Mocal Laminova oil to water cooler. Very compact (mounts in the lower radiator hose and allows the oil to come up to temperature faster than the coolant. When the thermostat opens, the coolant and the oil temps are within a degree or two of each other. No matter how fast or how long we run, the oil temp is under control and the pressure is good. No drawbacks that I have found.

Need advice - what kit is the easiest home build?
RDROCKT replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Dunno about others but I have two Ultralites in the garage and they don't seem to be too hard to understand or work on...plus, you can source virtually ALL of the parts here in the USA; many at the corner parts store or Autozone. Works for me -
Gas Mileage, Tell us how your 7 does on the MPG's
RDROCKT replied to tnttim's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hard to believe but this weekend I burned a little over one (1) gallon of fuel warming up the engine and wide open running for just under five (5) minutes! Of course, we were running autocross and BLUE, TOO (the XR7) was being spectacular! Same engine (in BLUE, the S2K) got something like 25 mpg touring on USA 2005. ...just thought I would put in my .02. -
Slicks? Nope, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. WestTexas knows the sizes best. Kevin is busy just now. Suspension too stiff? This is a car that has to traverse thousands of miles of public highways just to get to the tracks. How would you tune the suspension?

Hi Jeff, We met at Rt 66 a couple of years ago. Sorry to hear you are having problems but you have a very nice car otherwise. I agree with Ian7. Have you checked the wheel/hub bearing to see that it is turning freely? Shattering may just be another word for broke but the use of it tells me (us) that you had a sudden catastrophic event. Check all other parts from the drive shaft back for binding. I was also thinking about your use of a 3-4" larger diameter tire. You are imposing a greater resistance to turning and the force needed to do so may well be beyond the design spec of the halfshafts. Hard to believe but you may want to ask the Westfield people. Manik will be able to do that, I am sure. HTH

Is it the actual shaft that is breaking or is it the CV/universal joint? What tires are you using? How do you launch the car? Is the halfshaft parallel to the ground or does it have a mislignment?

Just gave my wife her first ride in the Seven....
RDROCKT replied to MoPho's topic in General Sevens Discussion
John, We still smile about USA2005. Yep, I DO remember our jaunt from Page to Las Vegas. I remember my good ULTRALITE logo hat blowing off and you trying to make a single handed catch while on the freeway outside LV. Really admire your effort....dang, I miss that hat! Barbara was really cautious about the Se7en when we pulled out of Houston and headed west. I often remind her of the death grip she had on the roll bar. Three weeks later driving up the Pacific Coast Highway she was hanging out of the car, acrobat style, getting pictures of the scenery and fellow travelers. As your wife also does, she frequently is the one proposing to take BLUE somewhere for a spin. Gotta love these ladies! We're still racing nearly every weekend and I am not allowed to go without her. After all, she IS the coach. Take care, -
running same size tires front and rear (bad idea?)
RDROCKT replied to RGTorque's topic in Wheels and Tires
I have been running the same size tires front and rear on my Se7ens for as long as I have had them. The ability to rotate the tires and the cost advantages are important to me. Runnnig RT615 tires, I have found that 20# front and rear is good for street use. I might go to a slightly lower pressure for track use. If the tires will fit under your fenders, go for it. -
778 miles. We are so there! Blue haired set? I resemble that remark!! Roads in the Ozarks are wunnerful; Jerry Eddens took us on a three day tour of the Ozarks in our Se7ens in 2006 and we would do it again in a minute. Branson was a two day stopping off spot for us last year on our way to the Southwest Sevens Festival in Fort Worth after attending the 2007 Run & Gun event in St Louis. We had a terrific time at the races and Branson was a real treat; so many shows and exhibits. This will be a great place to bring the family...or not. USA7s is to be congratulated on this choice; hope those with long commutes will be able to make it anyway, it will be a hoot. Calendar is cleared, where do we sign up?

Oh, I see! Piece of cake! Guess the old saying that the 'best prepared finish best' is still true. Kudos to you, Kevin and Michelle.

Gert, Alternative Fuel is anything but gasoline. In 7evin's case, he ran E85 fuel. I think he expected there would be a lot of competition in this class such as diesel and other E85 cars. Surprising that, in this day and economy, that no one took up the challenge. I am told it was quite a chore to convert the engine and all the fuel system to tolerate the alky.

The schedule shows them at "Pasage Control' between 5 and 8 pm today. I would guess that they would be there on the earlier side of that time frame since they are frontrunners and probably will get done with their autocross early. BTW, autocross is scheduled for between 2 and 5 pm. As a note; although the organizers do a specially great job of making things happen on schedule, S*&T happens. Give yourself plenty of leeway. HTH

Just got a chance to update on the latest results for 7evin and Michelle. Holy Cow (insert cow smiley here)! THIRD in the event at the BMW Performance Center. Although the overall standing for Organic Racing is unchanged at this point, the margin is narrowing! The Skyline has got to be concerned.

Mazda, the Skyline (Nissan GT-R) is just holding on to 7th position overall a scant 70 points ahead of 7evin and Harmony. The car is awesome and well driven by Tony Swan of Car and Driver mag but having difficulty staying ahead of a well driven Ultralite. You can check the progress of all the cars by going to http://www.onelapofamerica.com/history/results.shtml?y=2008

Wonderful morning to start a race. We watched and wished we were going. Doc Harmony (7evin's lady) has to be nominated for the Great Wife award! Hi John, As you may surmise, I have the same fan and mounting arrangements. I have not encountered any stretching of the mounts in nearly six years of racing and touring in my Ultralite S2K If you want to try it, I might suggest leaving the strap a bit long when trimming it and occasionally giving the tail a bit of a tug to make sure it is snug. In the event that you want to replace the straps altogether, Autozone and most auto parts stores have them in stock.
