  1. So when are you taking the Rotus to Yellowstone? Plan a stop in Colorado and we'll get some of the local Sevens together for some brisk mountain drives.
  2. Mike, it looks great but that's going to be one hot mutha without carpet or padding on it. Next time you come by I'll give you some spacecraft insulation to put on the underside so you won't burn your arm.
  3. From the tire size comparator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html 205/45-16 23.3" diameter 205/60-13 22.7" diameter The 13" tire is actually .6" shorter. Not many choices in performance street tires in that size. I borrowed one of the rear wheels and tires from Alaskossie's ESL this afternoon and tried it on my SV. The wheel is a 15 x 9 from the Caterham CSR. Tires are 245/40-15 Avons. There is very little clearance between the rear Watts linkage rod and the tire. He uses a 5mm spacer on his car with no problems so far. I didn't try the spacer as my wheel studs are too short even without the spacer. With longer studs and the spacer I should have no problem with these on my car. These tires are .6" shorter than my current tires a 0.3% difference or 2 revolutions per mile more. I tried to upload some pictures but it tells me I have used up my quota for uploads.
  4. Tom, With 13" wheels, my sump will be close to zero ground clearance.
  5. I already have a set of custom made wheel spacers so I can run my Miata track wheels and tires on the Caterham. They are 21.3 mm thick. I want a set of wheels that I can use without spacers, preferably in 16". I could use the spacers with a little modification on the standard Panasport 15" wheels but I'd rather not have the weight of the spacers and I like the look of 19mm offsets better than 38mm offsets, it makes the wheel look less like a front wheel drive wheel. I can't go to 13" or 14" without going to very tall tires as I need to maintain what little sump clearance I now have. I'll see what I can find in Image, Barnbys and Kodiac.
  6. My SV has 16 x 7 Caterham wagon wheels with a 19mm offset. The bolt pattern is 4 x 4.25. I don't particularly like the wagon wheels and have a buyer for them. Problem is, other than three piece, custom made Panasports at $750 each I cannot find a wheel with the correct offset and bolt pattern. I also want the rear wheels to be 16 x 8 for wider rear tires. Couldn't find anything in the archive, has anyone gone this route and what did you find?

He didn't burn because his speed relative to the Earth laterally was minimal. A re-entry vehicle starts above 17,000 mph when it de-orbits. It uses the atmosphere to slow it down. Colonel Kittinger's relative lateral speed was close to zero while his downward speed was only about 600 mph. The atmosphere slowed him as well but the velocity he had to shed before opening the chute was far less.

    Pink Hummer

Spotted (actually couldn't miss it) a bright pink H1 Hummer on the road today in Broomfield, CO. Windows were very tinted so I couldn't see if the driver was male or female. Wish I had had a camera along. I wonder if this is the Mary Kay edition for male sales contest winners. :jester:

  11. Some others might say too much horsepower is just about right.
  12. From Ft. Collins on the north end to Castle Rock of the south end, the Denver area has 9 Se7ens that I know of with another one close to being on the road and one Caterham still in the crate since purchased new in 1976. I'm not counting any Se7ens that happen to be passing though Caterham USA on their way to new owners. I have seen Se7ens on the road several times that were not part of a planned event. There were two Caterhams and an Elise at the Colorado School of Mines car show today. Almost everything else was an American based hot rod or muscle car. The Elise got the trophy for being the "Most Desirable Car" at the show by popular vote.
  13. A man seeking to join a south Texas Sheriff's Department is being interviewed. The Sergeant doing the interview says, "Your qualifications all look good, but there is an attitude suitability test that you must take before you can be accepted." Then, sliding a service pistol across the desk, he says, "Take this pistol and go out and shoot six illegal aliens, six meth dealers, six Muslim extremists, six totally unreasonably liberal democrats, and a rabbit." "Why the rabbit?" "That's the attitude we want," says the Sergeant. "When can you start?"
  14. It looked like the RR tire was completely off the rim when he finally shut it down. There are some other Holden burnouts at dragstrips like this one on Youtube. It looks like it is a regular thing for them down there.

  17. The oil pressure gauge on my Caterham started reading about half of normal last year. I put in a temporary mechanical gauge which showed even higher oil pressure than the Caerbont gauge did when it was new. I put the Caerbont gauge back in and just double the reading any time I look at it. Is there a mechanical gauge out there that matches the original Caerbont gauge?
  18. Do you suppose they would send one over the pond so I could have a test drive before making a decision on whether to buy it?
  19. Who makes these and what do they cost??? http://www.tvkim.com/watch/69/kims-picks-formula-1-simulator
  20. Porky might be a better description for your ESL. I stopped by Jeff's place today and your car sure looks lonely tucked up against the side of his garage.
  21. After seeing that many cars having rivet problems, I had a look under my car this evening. The cars has a little over 7k miles on it. No missing rivet heads but I did notice that the floor under the driver seat is sagging a little. Probably due to that fat bastard that had it before me. Oh, wait a minute, the previous fat bastard was me when I weighed 90 lb more than I do now.
  22. The new "Fat Bastard". :jester:
  23. Link gave me a log in page for the Ducati Monster forum
  24. Some of us are secure enough in our manhood to neither care nor worry about that. Especially not when it would mean not owning one of the best driving cars to come along. Others just keep harping on it.
