I've driven that road many times but hadn't really noticed the park, just an open space there. At that point we had dropped off his car in Anthem Ranch and I was driving the car and he was following in the truck/trailer. I didn't have the radar detector in the car so I was obeying (mostly) the speed limit.

What park? I don't recall going by any parks on the way home. It wasn't me driving, I was in the Silverado pulling the black trailer in front of the Se7en. Inside the trailer was a Miata belonging to a friend whose clutch slave cylinder gave up the ghost as he pulled up to the track out for his first session. I told him he had to stay behind me as I don't trust him off by himself in the Se7en. Actually, he is the only person who has driven it without me in the car other than to move it from one parking lot to another. He's a very good driver but he's used to being pedal to the metal all the time, even on the street and there is a big difference between his 128 hp Miata and my Se7en. Bring your wife over for a closer look and I'll take her for a little ride. I'll put a rock under the gas pedal so I won't scare her. :driving:

While running some errands today I stopped off for gas in our little town of Erie, CO. While gassing up the Se7en a truck stopped at the next pump and a small boy comes running around, spots the carbon fiber whiskers on the nose cone. Stops dead in his tracks. He calls for his dad who walks around the pumps and sees the car and the whiskers. We strike up a conversation and he introduces himself as Jim McCutchen. The name sort of rang a bell that became clearer when he said he used to make kit cars, claiming to be the second person to clone the Cobra. He made about 50 of them and still has his personal Cobra, now with a 700 hp Chevy big block. It turns out he lives in the same subdivision as I do at the far end. We exchanged addresses and he will be coming over for a ride and I expect to get one in his Cobra. The reason the kid got more excited about the whiskers than the car - Jim is now making carbon fiber parts including rotor blades for helicopters. I need to explore this further. :drool: Skip

That was the first drive of the car. A wise man would not be doing a burnout first time out, especially in a car like that. Did you notice the ambulance was following him all the way through the driving part of the video? He left it behind a couple of times when he accelerated but it was always there. What surprised me was the car didn't appear to rock when he would blip the throttle. I thought sure it would all but flip over on its side with that much torque in that light of a car.

All cars starting in 1996 were required to be OBDII. A quick google search on obdii turned up this page and many others with lots of info. http://www.obdii.com

They have relented and are allowing M2000 and newer helmets. Apparently the "no motorcycle helmets" bit came from the insurance company at the last moment. In this area motorcycle helmets are acceptable for lapping days with all of the sanctioning groups I am aware of. Racing is another thing and for racing the SA is required. I've been told even NASA allows motorcycle helmets in their non-competitive events. I still plan on buying a new, SA rated helmet but now I don't have to do it in two days or less. Anyone know when the SA2010 versions come out? I may wait and get one with a fresh rating. Skip

I got an email from the organizer of the Lotus club track event scheduled for this Sunday telling us that motorcycle helmets would not be allowed on the track. This is a lapping day, not a race. Many of us have been running with motorcycle helmets for years and never run into this problem. The rules have always allowed SA or M rated helmets. I'm willing to buy a new helmet but the only one I can find in the Denver area in XXL is $550, an amount I cannot justify when a good one can be had for around $300. No one can get me one in time and I am not willing to buy one without trying it on. BTDT, won't happen again. Has anyone else run into this requirement at their lapping events?

Some auto parts stores carry a large selection of wheel studs along with a catalog that gives dimensions. Take one of the goods ones along and have them measure it and then see if they can find one with the same thread and correct length but a slightly larger knurling. Otherwise it would be wise to replace the hub. NAPA and Checker in my area both have the same ones.

They already did that, don't encourage them.
