  1. If the car could be bought for $15k or less and I had the spare cash I would buy it, go through it and fix whatever needed replacing, but I don't really need two Sevens. The car has 6,200 miles on it and was not driven hard, at least when I was blatting with it. The salvage title will affect resale value, how much I don't have any way to judge. If you want a good car to keep and not worried about selling it any time soon and the price was right then go for it. That said, the car has been underwater and you may end up with a car that will have problems down the road. Here's the original thread when the car was put up for sale a few years ago then taken off the market, there are a few pictures including one under the bonnet. http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7240 The auction company charges a 7% buyer's fee added to the winning bid for sales between $10k and $30k (max of $1,050) plus a $50 document fee and will collect your local sales tax.
  2. The flooding was in Colorado, this car was in Longmont, Colorado. Kingman is where the auction company is located that the insurance company chose to consign the car,
  3. No idea on the reserve. Not much mud as it was inside and water wasn't flowing through it. All three of his cars that were flooded in the same shop have been cleaned up and are running. I don't know how long they were in the water. If you are serious about bidding on it I can give you contact info to talk to the former owner. He no longer owns the cars, the insurance company has paid him off and consigned them to the Crazy Ape auction company. He pointed out that the frame needs to have some drain holes drilled in it and get flushed out and dried as water can seep in around the pop rivets holding the sheet metal on the car. His Kirkham Cobra is also up for auction at http://www.crankyape.com/default.asp?pg=DispSingleItem&ItemNumber=44909
  4. http://crankyapeimages.crankyapecom.netdna-cdn.com/auctionimages/44856.4.jpg http://www.crankyape.com/default.asp?pg=DispSingleItem&ItemNumber=44856 This car belonged to a friend and was advertised on this forum awhile back before it became a victim of the September floods. It was built with a new Focus SVT engine and has 6,200 miles on it. There was no physical damage but the water was dash level high. The auction company has drained and replaced fluids and changed the spark plugs and it is a running, drivable car according to them. Bidding is at $10.5k with reserve not met. Bidding closes on December 30th at 2:47 PM CST. The title will be branded as Salvage/Insurance Loss. If I had the bucks I would be bidding on it.
  5. Taking it all off would be appreciated even more.
  6. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Drive safe and keep the shiny side up and a grin on your face.
  7. I stopped by Tom's shop last week to say hello and see the new Birkin widebody. I was impressed with the quality of the chassis and parts. The link below will take you to some more detailed pictures of the kit. http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/scannon929/library/Wide%20Body%20Birkin If you get a message telling you it doesn't exist, click the Library tab on the upper left and scroll down to Wide Body Birkin.
  8. If it is small enough ask to have it sent via the Royal Post (I think that is what they call the equivalent of the USPS). I have never had to pay duty on anything that came across the pond that way. Same result when sending things to Europe using the USPS.
  9. One of the people on our Miata.net forum was part of the development team for the GT. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=6685567#post6685567 Looks like he had a great job. He got to take GT prototypes home over night and weekends and as he says: "But it was a lot of fun to be able to take them home before everyone else and stomp the crap out of them to make sure everything works." I got a chance to drive one of the production GTs a few years ago on some deserted back roads. The owner gave me permission to wring it out a bit and I did. On one run through the gears I thought I was doing about 85 mph and when I looked over at the speedometer (it is on the passenger side of the dash panel) I discovered I was doing 145 mph in a 45 mph Zone. It is a great car and the nicest of any of the few supercars I have been lucky enough to drive.
  10. Tom, Congrats on becoming the USA Birkin distributor. The new wide body car should be a good seller. Can you post some pictures of completed wide body cars for us to drool over? Does the above picture show the stage of assembly that the cars arrive in?
  11. Starting in 2014 in an attempt to keep the championship awarded earlier in the season. Also a spending cap to start in 2015. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/25310466
  12. I got to sit in one at a C&C about a year ago. More difficult to get in and out of than my Caterham and I didn't have that secure, one with the car feeling. When I started the engine the vibration was horrendous. Even revving the engine up a bit didn't do much to smooth out the vibration. Talking to the owner who was also a Morgan dealer I got the impression that it was not a fun car for long distance travel. He trailers it to and from out of town events. Fun to look at but it left me with no desire to own one.

  15. As one of my friends is fond of saying: Turning gasoline into adrenalin, one gallon at a time. If it comes to the point that I cannot afford gasoline for fun things like the Caterham, Miata, WRX and such I will check myself into the assisted living/nursing home and hope to die quickly.
  16. Titus for the WIN. http://www.utrend.tv/v/bball-baby/
  17. Nice installation. That seems to be a very tiny radiator and the first time I have seen an intercooler behind the radiator. So you have any dyno charts for the engine?
  18. I never suspected there was an actual car behind the song. Here's the story.
  19. Interesting article based around the K-Series engines. Not many of these on this side of the pond but if you are in Europe it should be a useful tool. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=28975&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=html&utm_campaign=2013-12-3
  20. White smoke on start up usually means water is getting into the combustion chambers. Have a look at your plugs in the morning before start up and see if there is moisture on them. Could be you need a new head gasket or have a crack in the head or cylinder wall.
  21. About how far is it from Ft. Nelson to the next place I can get 91 octane? I can squeeze out almost 300 miles on a tank.
  22. Not bloody likely.
  23. Will there be 91 octane fuel available all along this route? My car has plenty of range for the 100 - 150 mile distance between fuel stations but having to run on lower octane could be a problem.
