  1. Is 40-45psi fuel pressure correct for this engine? While our nearly-stock 2 litre race motor is a Zetec, not a Duratec, we run 60psi.
  2. fun to see that nothing's changed in the 25 years since I built my kit LOL
  3. +1 on this. If you don't know why a metallic electrical part melted, how do you know something worse won't happen next time? Is your fuel pump the real problem, demanding way too much current for some reason, and maybe something more serious happens next time?
  4. that's a frikkin' Darwin Award candidate right there !!!!!!!!
  5. too much power going into a diff with too much internal lightness ? :-) IMHO, driving any car in what would be called a civilized manner on the street doesn't require a LSD, more trouble than they're worth unless you're on track. (I'm gonna get flamed, I know)
  6. In 2 years and only 11k miles? Did you drain it and see what came out? Did you even get any oil out, never mind any metallic bits? I notice the "no oil" sticker on the new unit, any chance your original was dry? (but hard to imagine a dry diff lasting 11k miles).
  7. If you have the required dimensions, or better, an example of what you need, there are several guys in open wheel racing could duplicate the parts for you. Try Momentum Motorsports at CMP in south carolina.
  8. 2 of my 3 Caterhams only had one seat :-) Add lightness! LOL
  9. " ... with integrated seat heaters. " LOL
  10. If I couldn't do a particular task myself, I'd take the Caterham to a race shop that specializes in formula cars. They'll be much more sympathetic to the car than some "tire and lube" shop. edit: that's not a slight on KTR, I know nothing of them, I was speaking generically.
  11. just an FYI, basic WD-40 is NOT a storage spray, it is merely a water dispersent (WD), and actually drives lubricants OFF the surfaces. (to be honest, WD-40 has no real place in a modern garage). (second edit: it IS good for removing adhesive from old decals...) Use a proper engine fogging product internally.
  12. we're to believe those are photos of a car that has sat untouched for 50 years ?? hmmm. has anyone seen this in person? edit: just enlarged the photos, presents a more realistic view of the car condition.
  13. thx, didn't know that the Scholarsip cars went through MOT's. Edit: having read the link you provided, my guess is they don't, and the car was a racer until the first MOT date shown, which was in 2006 at 7,679 miles. Certainly suggests that the race cars have odometers from day 1. (Also, google shows all MOT history only goes back to May 2005 anyway.) Appreciate the info, thx again. cheers
  14. Hi. Why and how was the "speedometer recalibration" done? (I guess my concern is that its possible this Scholarship race car never had a speedo in it until it was converted to a road car, and perhaps has more miles than indicated?) If the referenced info from Caterham was linked in the ebay auction, it doesn't show now that the auction has ended. cheers
  15. Admittedly I've been away from Caterhams for over a decade, but what makes this car "one of a kind"? thanks
  16. Can't say I disagree with the electrification aspect, nor am I against it. (Just totally on the other side of the fence against the current crop of 800hp 5000# $80k behemoths). (but I also understand why: no viable long-term business model in the USA for small low-profit-margin electric cars; dealers have always survived through their service and finance departments) That said, why is it so hard to find info on caterham's in-house electric program? a few renderings are available, and a few "just a design study" comments.
  17. I'm just finding this 3 year old thread and wondering if anything came out of it. I'll also add I'm in the apparent minority of those who WOULD prefer a more affordable clone, rather than the incomprehensible (to me) current Caterham prices. I've had 3 (two low spec older Caterhams and a clone), all of which were a blast. Hard to think the top spec Cat's are 5x more fun, especially in normal road use. I'm looking hard at this at the moment, shipping and tariffs being explored: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/19174225
  18. One of the conditions of a BaT listing is that all other for sale ads must be taken down prior to the start of the auction.
  19. Just found this thread, and going back a page to some July comments: Not a 7 obviously, but this is our car at Watkins Glen last year (not AI, actual livery) :-)
  20. True, I've had 3 in the past, never had 'seats' though, just the old style cushion on the floor :-)
  21. 35mm wide seats? hmmm LOL. Even if that were cm, that's still less than 14".
  22. If not sold, info to "ianmacp777@gmail.com" thx (St. Aug - presume this is 7s & Elans?)
  23. Curious, VIN SB1682 would suggest a 1960's series 2, but the 1983 build date suggests some other registration .... shenanigans? (As you say though, you got it that way ...) What makes you say "its actually a '83..." ?
  24. Anyone know the whereabouts of this car? Last seen in Montreal in 2010. Kent powered, live axle. Quaife 4-spd straight-cut synchro box. White 'Hurst' shift knob. thx
