Isn't water injection a performance enhancer? Seriously, I think you'd have to be pouring a bucket of water onto the intake while the engine was running to ingest enough water to do harm (hydrolock). Like you however I'd probably err on the side of caution.

2024 Annual HPDE Hosted by NJMP Drivers Club - September 6/7, 2024
wdb replied to Croc's topic in National Events
I'm not going to have my car ready for this event, but I would like to attend anyway and hang around with all the cool folks. How do I register to do that? -
But now you know it fits. Silver lining.

Push-button replacement for Dzus fasteners on Caterham nose.
wdb replied to pethier's topic in General Tech
I just use a washer. I replaced the underside Dzus fasteners with these. Much easier to deal with down there. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBYNHMF/?th=1 -
Eureka! Burton Power finally got back to me. According to them the Titan dry sump oil pump orients the oil filter at approximately the same angle as the original oil pump, which means I only need to be concerned about clearance for the additional scavenging stage of the pump. I believe the mount bracket I have does just that. Woohoo! Per the response from Burton Power: "When viewed from the side of the block, the oil filter is approximately at the 5 o'clock position as picture attached."

Thanks @JohnCh I do hope they will behave themselves when in the garage together. And yes, I've already gotten some good advice on that forum. I'll start a build thread or whatever they do there, once I figure out their ethos; quite a mix of Brits, Americans, and others on there and a different vibe than most forums I frequent.

It's been a little while since I've updated this thread. Elsewhere I am discussing the ongoing dry sump conversion, which I hope to have moving forward again very soon. In the meantime this happened. 1967 Lotus Elan S3 SE. It's owned by the same gentleman who previously owned my se7en. Largely original. Comes with 1.5 spare engines and two metric buttloads of other spare stuff. He has owned the car from new(!!!) which helps explain the spares. It was his family's only transportation for a while. He brought his daughters home from the hospital in this car when they were born. Raced it in local hillclimbs. It's literally a family member. Age is catching up to him however and he can no longer care for the car. I feel flattered and very honored that he and his family are entrusting it to my care. I'll do my best.

My wife sends our real estate tax payment via personal check. Drives me nuts but so far the county has not provided a way to transfer funds digitally. obTopic a bit, and not for one minute to condone the actions reported, but I recall when being a postal worker was a stable, decent paying, middle class job. No more.

This is what my Porsche engine builder does. He's done literally thousands of engines, between himself and his employees.

Quick update. Arch Motors responded quickly, but they're a bit busy and should be able to fully reply early next week. I'm impressed. Burton Power on the other hand has yet to reply to either of my inquiries; it's been about 10 days. I get it, an outfit can be very busy and so on. But if you're so backed up that it takes weeks to reply, at least set an auto reply saying so. Otherwise you just look bad.

Then please send the beautiful assistant my way please, I need all the help I can get. But yes, I think from the sounds of it that there is a significant hole somewhere in the pressurized oiling system that should be easy to find.
-
Fantastic information! Thank you. I've reached out to Arch -- hopefully the correct outfit, there are several that appear in a google search. I went with the one listed at https://www.anglocanadianlotus7.ca/lotus-seven-parts-suppliers-list/ I agree that it's a bit tough to figure out which mount I have. It has two separate pieces at the engine block, like #1. But the curves in the tubes look a lot like #2.
-
It might be possible, but I don't see it being very robust. There isn't much space between the two lower motor mount bolt holes and the oil filter. If it's been done I'm happy to be proven wrong! With pix pls thx.

This is exactly what I needed, thank you. Do you know whether that is the filter orientation for FF as well as Titan pumps?
-
I started a separate thread on the topic.

(Starting a new thread so as not to junk up the other one) Does anyone know for certain if this is the motor mount bracket that will allow a dry sump oil pump with integrated filter to be used in a Caterham with a Ford Kent engine? https://caterhamparts.co.uk/engine-mounts/106-engine-mounting-bracket-ford-crossflow-dry-sump.html I've reached out to Caterham, here is their response: " Thank you for your e-mail. Yes, this was used on dry sump ford units and as you can see from the photo is angled to avoid hitting a few things. Regards" What I have not had any luck finding is an image or description of EXACTLY IN WHAT DIRECTION the integrated oil filter protrudes from the pump. The Burton pics for the Titan pump, and those on Pegasus for the FF pump, do not show the orientation of the unit on the side of the block. Pegasus says their pump won't fit a Caterham because of the engine mount bracket. Burton doesn't appear to like responding to requests for information; I've tried twice so far. The mount bracket I currently have is curved, in a manner very similar to the one pictured above. Here it is, with a dry sump oil pump in place. From below -- front of engine is to the right From the rear From the front

I have the S212 in 2013 flavor. It's roomy, comfortable, reliable, safe as a house. It gets 30+ MPG highway, which combined with the 21 gallon fuel tank means it goes a llooonnnnggggg way on a tankful. It is festooned with clever thingies that enhance practicality. It can swallow astoundingly long stuff. It's not a sports car though. It's competent and confident, but it's not something that begs to be tossed. If ease of ingress/egress is on your list of needs, definitely consider the S212. Nonagenarians have a pretty easy time of it in my experience.

Waiting for @Croc to chime in...

Love the license plate. There's a guy on Rennlist who swapped a GT3 drivetrain into his 996 Carrera; he calls it "GT3ish". Condolences for the marriage woes. Good luck with the sale!
