  1. You definitely have to wear narrow shoes, even when you think you can handle it with wider, it just isn't worth the risk. I have a few pair of pumas that are racing shoe styled without the high cost.
  2. The material on the rear looks awesome. I've never been a big fan of the vinyl on mine but I'd be concerned that canvas would get dirty. Is that canvas or something else? If one could source outdoor furniture material like sunsetter or something like that it has a natural UV coating and is supposed to shed dirt naturally.
  3. I will try and get a pick for you, but it is intentional. I was always bothered by it but was told that it is done that way to reduce braking force. The rear brakes have a bad tendency to lock and this is one way to reduce the chance of it happening.

  6. When I was a kid I was able to go to Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. While there I had time in 2 of their SS simulators. One was an accurate reproduction of the SS avionics and was used in the Space Camp movie for their time in space. I was a science officer on the mission in that simulator so most of my time was spent doing nothing in the lower level. Their second simulator wasn't nearly as accurate (about 1/3 of the switches and panels) but it was hydraulically suspended and operated by the controls we had in front of us. We had a couple days of training before our big mission. During none of those days were the controls active so we assumed they didn't trust us with a moving simulator. I was commander in the big seat for that mission, probably because I was a huge nerd and knew more than anyone else in my group. On the day of our mission myself and my pilot bought some freeze dried ice cream and got someone to give us some fishing line. We rigged the fishing line through the overhead panels and down to the side of our seats. When we were "in space" during the mission, we pulled on the fishing line so that the ice cream was "floating" in space. I had the video of the mission and it looked great, but unfortunately the video tape is long gone. The best part of the mission though was during approach I was supposed to pull back on the stick to reduce speed. No one told us that the hydraulics had been activated so when I pulled back on the stick and the simulator jumped back, I was so startled that I blurted F*** into my voice activated mic. Mission control quickly responded asking us to watch our language on open mics (since it was being recorded and we were about 8 years old at the time...).   8. I was at that race. That vette is an animal, as is the viper and GTR that they showed him racing.
  9. I tore the front mounting bung twice in my S2KR. The first time I just recircled the weld around the bung. That held for a few years of hard road use until it tore through to the edge. I got 2x 3" washers with a 1" hole, hammered them to the shape of the housing, welded them on both sides of the housing and then made a nice rubber mount that better distributed the torsional force. It ran well until I started taking the car apart again... On the steering wheel location, my car is apparently the only one built with "tilt" steering. The cross beam is cut and reinforced. There is a sliding mechanism that holds a tie rod end. That mechanism can be loosed then moved up/down. I've found the best position is with the steering shaft going right through the middle of the main dash bar. I'll get pics posted of either setup if anyone is interested.
  10. In conversations with the previous Ultralite brand owner, he said that the norm was to raise the VTEC on the S2K/R cars to help keep them stable. I know that I better have my car pointed straight when the VTEC rolls in.
  11. You won't have to replace the factory ECU just to change your VTEC engagement point. That can be updated through flashing the ROM or using an aftermarket controller that will piggy back with your factory ECU.
  12. I was going to throw the BJZ into this conversation as well. It is a beautifully designed 3 wheeler and you can base it off a VW motor. I tried to get info from the company a few years ago, but my emails were ignored.
  13. I've seen this car in person at Run'N'Gun (that is my polished/black S2KR in the background of this pic). It is a seriously well built and sorted car. I later met John and was a very honest and straight forward guy. Whoever buys this car is going to be very happy with it.

  16. I had similar behavior from my car. I could get into VTEC but it would randomly go into limp mode and would require a battery cut-off reset to get it running right. Loren pointed me to the blue and white wire. I checked and nothing was ever hooked up to it (my car was purchased used/built). After hooking it up I've never had the problem again.

  18. To second what Jim said earlier, the Mini Cooper is a great all-weather drivers car that is a blast to own and can handle anything you throw at it (as long as it isn't more than 4 people...). I own both an Ultralite S2KR and an '05 Mini Cooper S and they make a great combination. I've driven my Ultralite 20+ miles to work during hot and cold weather but I would only do so once or twice a week as I didn't have a good place to park it and was always having to check on it. If you have a good place at work to park it and your weather isn't going to turn wet, daily driving a 7 for 10 miles to/from work is easily doable. Your time to get in/out of the car is a little more than a "normal" car and you should expect lots of questions any and everywhere you drive, but that is all worth it. I drive mine to get ice cream, a big coke from Sonic with my daughter, grocery shopping (for small items), trips to Lowes, going to rent movies, or just when I have time to kill. I've never owned a Corvette or an Elise and I'm sure they are both incredible cars and would both be on a short list of cars if I was going to have just one and didn't need a back seat (with 2 kids that isn't going to be a list I'll be writing). That said, the 7 is on a completely different level. They are infinitely more fun to drive, infinitely cooler, and they produce their performance by adding extreme levels of lightness. Like you mentioned in your previous post, the 7 owner has never replaced his brake pads. He's probably not replaced tires or clutch very often either. With an Ultralite, you can get to a sub 4 second 0-60 on a STOCK Honda motor that will start and run every time you sit in it. I've owned my S2KR for almost 3 years now and the only time it hasn't started was due to a low battery caused by me leaving the lights on for an extended period of time. I'll probably never put new brake pads on it and will only replace the tires due to age, not wear. Maintenance is easier than the donor cars because you can get to everything on the motor very easily. The wear on the drivetrain is much less than the donor car due to the reduction in weight. In the case of the Ultralite, the drivetrain is pushing around 60% less weight than the S2000 it came out of. If you don't feel the need for rain gear, I would suggest looking at the Ultralite as an option. The Honda drivetrain is very solid, capable of making very impressive power for its size, is rock solid reliable, well engineered, and capable of performing extremely well on the track. Kevin and Loren have both competed in the 1-Lap of America with their Ultralites and placed extremely well considering their competition. A couple years ago, Kevin's car placed 3rd overall and 1st in his class at the 1-Lap. If you aren't familiar with that race, it was something like 11 different races at 9 race tracks in as many days. You race during the day, drive at night, race during the day, drive at night, ... with a total drive distance of something like 3500+ miles. To do that in a 7 (in the cold, rain, etc) and place better than cars that had 250k+ invested in them with full race team support is simply amazing.

My only issues are the white leather sides pick up aluminum from the transmission tunnel so my right shoe has some discolorations. I can get some of it off but not all of it. Also, I usually wear my jeans on the long side with athletic shoes and these Pumas being so short cause my pants to drag a little. They are great shoe and I'll probably buy another set of Puma's, probably the Drift Cat soon.
  20. Both the F20C and F22C engines produce 240hp. The F22C is a stoked version of the F20C that increased the displacement to 2.2L, had an increase in torque of 9 ft-lb from 153 to 162, and is said to have a better torque curve making the S2000 a more drivable car.   21. I have an F20C with transmission if someone buys this kit. If you would be more interested in an F22C, I want to put the F20C in my S2K and could sell the F22.
  22. I kept wanting to reach up and move the mirror. Any one else notice his face shield wasn't down? The high windshield should protect him but I wouldn't trust that alone.
