Welcome Andy, Unless you're over 6ft6, you shouldn't have a problem with roll bar clearance.. I cant get over how close the front wheels are to the clam fenders. . How much clearance do you have? I imagine the front suspension is pretty stiff.

Beautiful restoration. I always wondered what happened to that car and the one hanging from the ceiling.

There is a considerable amount of drag in a mechanical water pump even when it's not pushing water due to the seals and bearings. Changing to an electric water pump may not make a big difference down at lower RPM's, but when you start thinking about running at higher RPM's the impellar is really screaming and pushing a lot of water - something an electric pump won't be doing. Also, the smaller the pulley is the faster it spins and thus more horsepower is required to spin it. Does that make sense?

I've actually considered doing the exact same thing, but I was a bit hesitant about putting holes in the side of the aluminum panel. I've been considering adding a piece from above and braced at the back of the pedal box so I could still stick my foot behind it if I so desired. You're in Mountain View right? What company? I will likely be moving to sunnyvale/mountain view in the near future...

Have you looked at running it behind the RR wheel and out the back? You should be able to throw a cancellation muffler on there in addition to the absorbtion syle you currently have.

Kiyoshi - (This is Geoff Wise as you probably don't recognize the screen name) Growing up around your car (and the ones in Mike O's shop) made me want a 7 as a kid. Great write up... it brought back a lot of good memories. I was suprised to read you had enough room beside the clutch for a dead pedal. When you say you "long" to have another, does that mean you're currently looking?

RNR, You may want to turn that tip underneath the car as Laguna's sound meter is on the right side of the track. 92 dB is pretty quiet. A lot of guys just short shift and cruise up the hill between turns 5 and 6.

Same car. Pete still races that same car at vintage events. He has a much nicer transporter now... I imagine they would have had to attach the updated wing after arriving at their destination.

We should all rent a house in pebble beach for the weekend. Watsonville is probably 35 mins from the track (w/o traffic) and doesn't seem to have the inflated rates of the surrounding areas.

I'm in as well, but it's no longer called the monterey historics. They're now the "Monterey Motorsportrs Reunion." I'm also glad to see the F1 cars are back this year. This year will celebrate Dan Gurney. I hope to see/hear the Weslake T1G.

Have any idea who owns your old car? My father races a 74 Z-10 out on the west coast, but knows quite a few other zink owners throughout the country. This video isn't real surprising though. As soon as aero starts coming into play at the higher speeds, the FF just cant keep up with the power of the GT. There's a huge difference between slicks and road tires as well.

Like anything historic racing car, price of each individual car is dictated by it's history. That being said, the lotus 23 was an iconic sports racer of the era and nice examples (even without a rich history) command well into the $150k range. About 30 years ago my father had the opportunity to buy one for $600. He told the guy he'd take it and instructed him not to sell it, rented a truck and trailer from his friend and drove from colorado to kansas to pick it up. When he got there the guy told him he sold it 2 hours ago. :banghead:

This sort of technology has been around for a while...(patent was issued in 1999 which means the they probably submitted the patent around 1995) some tires use an asymmetrical sidewall to do the same thing.

Hey Dan... nice to see you here too. You may have more luck on locostusa.com. There seems to be more scratch builds there. I seem to recall only 1 or 2 guys here running 4ag's. Another option is blatchat.com, but you'll need to buy a membership to post there.

We were team forced arousal - had a red MR2. We haven't run any of the races lately just because we're now all so busy. While Alex used to live in the Bay Area, he's now down in L.A. The team was based in southern california, but we drove up and raced at thunderhill. On a separate note - My girlfriend recently moved to sunnyvale, and I'll probably be following her soon provided I can find a job.

I believe those 9 round auxiliary gauges are actually buttons... Personally, it just looks like a couple of guys screwing around on the track. I guess you could call it drifting but it's more power sliding than anything. These are a couple of videos from a guy I raced in the 24 hours of lemons with. He has a 250 hp 4age turbo powered locost. The steering angle is insane- almost 90 degrees. He owns a suspension company.

Gert, Excellent work. Those look great and I'll bet they cut down the drag significantly. What type of material did you use on the cases? I know some 3D printing materials can be sensitive to moisture. Also- it looks like you may have used some self tapping screws to hold the halves together? If so, I'd suggest using threaded inserts.
